In the UK eels are a protected and endangered species now very sad really I think it has a lot to do with fencing and roads preventing their migration
I once caught a 7lb 11oz eel it was awesome I was hold it would be seventy years old
Unfortunately it was found ottered after otters were reintroduced to the nature reserve

Seeing that 36" ling made me think that perhaps we should be voluntarily establishing a max size too- the rationale being those very large fish are the best breeding stock as well as they tend to be like you said more beat up, and also have more parasites so less appealing for the table. I'm gonna go for the 22" to 30" size class for keepers and let the very big fish go in the hopes they provide the best chance for more fish in the future.

I used to catch lots as a kid. Even set out eel pots to catch them. You skin them and chunk them up. Fry them in a pan with a little oil and salt. That’s all my grandfather used and that’s all I used and they were delicious! It’s the flavor of the eel that’s the showcase! They do squirm in the pan though...lol! Don’t worry, they’re not still alive...

    • @Henfishitydog
      @Henfishitydog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Humane dispatch is more for the fisherman than it is for the fish. Fish lack the ability to process pain, so it's really all up to what you feel is right.

Great video. Just thinking out loud. Would it not have been a great example of conservation and sportsmanship to have released the second bull breeder lingcod you caught?
You obviously have the ability, means, opportunity and skill set to catch fish. 👍
As a youtuber/influencer you have the opportunity and responsibility to lead by example.
Not criticizing you. You did everything legal and by the book. The regs allow 2 fish daily bag limit for lings. Go for it!
Breeders need to be released. You even mentioned in the video that lings do not move around much and are territorial.
Some food for thought! Tight lines.

The Monkey Faced Prickleback (Eel) is one of the finest and most pure white meats I have ever tasted. You can order it in some up market restaurants in San Francisco. It is one of the hidden gems that the Pacific Northwest offers. While it starts out as a gelatinous blob that you can barely filet, it firms up in the pan and becomes a delicacy if it is cooked right. You definitely want the bigger ones. I was a skeptic until my step son brought one home after a spearfishing day on the Oregon coast. I am now a believer.

You rock as a fisherman I truly enjoy you channel. I’ve done the Polk Poling before they are good to eat also. But I would not trade a Ling for one. Tight lines.

I’m not cool watching you kill all these eels to catch fish you can easily catch on artificial bait...sorry won’t be watching these videos.

What type of eels are those? They look like americans, but I didn't think they were found out there. When you fish with eels, don't put them in water and use a hand towel to grab them. Nice job on the vid.

What the heck../ what type of eel are these? In south florida the eels bite VERY HARD and you cant even touch them

Eels are threatened with extinction in wild in both Europe and Americas. In UK its an offence to take or injure a wild eel. catch and release only - probably not the most sensible species to choose as bait!

The monkey faced eel is more of a fish than an eel Cx like the Gunnel fish.

How about if you let the fish go free! You do not need the food and you had your fun catching it, so you should be letting all fish go.
