Great work on the educational videos on how to read the breaks, it helped a lot. I have been many times to the Pacifica Coast with my family and very eager son to catch a surf perch but nothing but SKUNKS!! I hope to take this knowledge and turn it into catch and cooks! More vids like this please and head up north to the bay area, Marin, Sonoma, Medocino to join us up here.
That’s so awesome. Thank you for the kind invite. Will definitely look at traveling more as the channel grows. And definitely doing more videos like this showing the water we catch fish out of. Hopefully to make time on the water that much better for everyone.
Have only been watching your channel for a few days now, love to watch your action. I'm an old school surf fisher, use to nail it back in the 70's then a little in the 90's. Basically fly fish the eastern sierra but wanting to get back into salt for in-between action. Definitely different than what we use to do. Learning from you Sir....Thanks

Good info . My experience fishing surf I look for the start of a rip tide with a rip it pulls a lot of sand out exposing bait and steering up the bottom make a hole and I fish the out side of the tide. The other thing I look for is wave sets how long 10 to 15 sec between.
Thank you for the thoughtful response! That’s why fishing is so special. Conditions constantly change. One day to the next can be totally different. It’s really nice to find wave faces that come in really close pulling up lots of sand. It’s a dream. We didn’t see too much of that this day. We hit about 5 spots too. We’ll continue to do these types of videos. Maybe one of them we’ll see 10-15 seconds between waves. Can’t wait till spring. That can be totally optimal.
The other thing i like to do is fish the break water. What I mean is that dirty water the wave leaves behind when it crashes down and turns up the bottom. I fish that when it’s windy and sets are crazy
Dude thank you for this video!!! Took what I can remember from the video to the surf and hooked up a barred perch on the 11th hour. Thanks bro! Keep up the great work fellas

Depends. If absolutely 0 bites, 15 minutes max. Maybe a little less if it’s 2 anglers. When it’s two anglers you’re doubling the amount of casts into a spot and if there were fish in the area, they would’ve seen your lure already.

Nice Video Ed, thanks for doing that one for us! I have a question, when your driving along the beach in your truck what do you see that makes you stop to fish a spot?

What wind conditions do you have in the videos when you are casting the calissas? (0-5 mph?) Do you even recommend to try surf fishing when winds are 20mph+? TIA

hi. awesome video.. thanks for this. I"m from the Fresno area but i try to go surf fishing a couple times a year. i got several surf poles but mine seem a little more heavier duty then the set up your are using. could you share your set up for me. what pole size and specs, reel size and the type and size of your line. please. last time i went surf fishing i used a 10 foot medium heavy penn fierce combo spooled with suffix 30 lb. braided line. seems a little over kill after seeing your set up. and i had truoble casting my lucky craft salt water lure for distance. especially when it was a little windy. i ended up switching to a high low rig and caught a few with blood worms. but i love using lures and would like to better my odds. thanks

Yes the van staal vr50 is fully sealed. It’s a reel that can be dunked in saltwater
@@Hook2Cook what # braid are you using with that reel i want to get into surf fishing but i want to invest the money into this reel how are you liking it so far?
@@baironperez2231 it's 30# power pro. it's thick enough not to snap on a terrible cast and it can handle hundreds of casts without fraying. one leader of 20# floro can last many trips. love the reel so far, but it is on the bigger side for salmon rods.
@@Hook2Cook thanks for the info will definitely consider a VS VR50 might even get the black version but I'll definitely do some hard thinking before pulling the trigger on a $500 reel it'll be paired with a megabass astelion. Just wanted to say you have a great channel thank you for the amazing work and effort you put into your videos thanks again!
Bairon Perez thanks for that encouragement. This kind of feedback is motivation to keep going! This vr50 was a Christmas gift from the Hook2cook family. It’s really hard to pull the trigger on a reel like that.
So big, greatest and supperhit
Great vids
Salamat! Hope it helps you target productive areas
What’s you rod and reel setup? What is that netting you use to put you fish in? Thanks!!
In this video, a van staal vr50 on an okuma celilo 9'6" medium light salmon steelhead rod. the net is a sports ball net. you can find everything at kit.co/hook2cook
From the first drone's view, it looks like the guys are fishing right at the RIP CURRENT location that people need to be aware of its danger too.
Good point.
Thanks, this was super helpful!
Haha! I’m such a boot, I didn’t know you could lure fish for surf pearch.
What app do you use and what beach are you fishing
New to surf fishing, been following you for a while. Been out once a week for 3 weeks now, I don’t think there are any more fish in the ocean. Did you catch them all?
What county are you in?
Hook2Cook I live in Santa Maria, tried fishing Oceano surf for 3 weeks, nothing but sunburn, sore feet and back, but I’ll be ready to go in a day or so.
Usually if oceano isn’t going off, we hit oso flaco
Hook2Cook thanks I will have to try some other places. Just curious can you drive on the beach from Oceano to oso flaco? I love the Montana de Oro area too. Is that where you took a fall in one of your videos?
Okay I tried oso flaco and I’m relieved to say that yes there are still fish in the ocean. Caught 4, kept 2. Trying Guadalupe beach next. Thanks for the inspiration.
Good stuff! Thank you!
No, thank you for the feedback.
Whereabouts you from?
Live in Santa Maria but fish up and down the coast!
That's awesome man, based out of AG. Fish here weekly!
the common fishing tip that i use is 2hours before and after hightide coz its hard for me to tell where the sandbar is
yea, it's nice to see the water come up because it helps you see what the structure is like
salamat boss!
hi. awesome video.. thanks for this. I"m from the Fresno area but i try to go surf fishing a couple times a year. i got several surf poles but mine seem a little more heavier duty then the set up your are using. could you share your set up for me. what pole size and specs, reel size and the type and size of your line. please. last time i went surf fishing i used a 10 foot medium heavy penn fierce combo spooled with suffix 30 lb. braided line. seems a little over kill after seeing your set up. and i had truoble casting my lucky craft salt water lure for distance. especially when it was a little windy. i ended up switching to a high low rig and caught a few with blood worms. but i love using lures and would like to better my odds. thanks
Thanks bro. Yea we get gear questions all the time. This video here goes the the full set up. th-cam.com/video/6SXSj1qe77w/w-d-xo.html
Also, we have a website with everything we recommend at kit.co/HOOK2COOK

Hold on...Can't comment right now....studying this video
Lol! Don’t worry more to come! Just not wearing a shark outfit like you did... still super jelli you got to collab with Rodney.
What is the plug? Is it weighted?
Have you caught calico and/or red tail perch with the Calissa?
No but we have a friend who’s caught a lot of calico on the Calissa.
@@Hook2Cook thanks! Planning to hook up with some friends and taking a rod trip up north and try them on red tails and calico
Actually, ish with fish caught some red tail on the Calissa including his Pb! So good luck!
Oregon had 20-30 ft king tides
Geeeeeeeez. That’s no fun
DAS PREMIER!!!
Yeet! Lol hopefully it applies to your water too
Say Bro, what is the 3 fingered glove you have on? Where do I pick one of those up?
It’s an archery glove believe it or not! Figured it should work and it does! No more braid cuts! amzn.to/3Oc9OU7
