Poke poled the San Mateo and Monterey coasts 70 years ago with my Dad. We used a stout bamboo pole with at three foot piece of heavy copper wire and a 6 inch heavy leader with a large hook. Bend the wire to explore the nooks and crannies. Jamming the strong pole into a rock crevice saved his life when he was washed over by a sneaker wave or a pretty flat stone reef area. I heard that story every time we fished. It was not unusual to get cabazone as well. Thanks for the memories
8:24 Those hole are create either they were ancient coal reefs. Bore by snails or sea urchins. That reef you are standing was once out there in the sea and was pushed up It would be dated millions of years ago. I find fossilized clams and even abs in the rocks. Some are really stuck into it and are just rocks when you pull them out. You can see plates when you pull an image from your drone. Yea, pretty interesting stuff as you would realize those fossil you are hold were millions of years old and haven't seen day for millions of years until you plucked it out.
Another epic video from non other than Die Hard Fishing's Adam. So much educational benefits when I watch your video. Beautiful drone shots of the North Cal landscape. Adam I cringe when I see you walking around the rocks in slippers. Lol Ever thought of investing in some Tabi's. We used them when we would walk the reefs at night on Oahu speerfishing at low tide. Again great video Adam with lots and lots of great info. Stay safe out there Aloha from Kansas
Cool tip on the poke pole setup. The holes in the rocks in this area are created by Piddock Clams. It's a pretty interesting creature that can live decades. The holes are drilled something like 5mm per year as the clam grows.
Used to do this when I lived in Hawaii.only much bigger tackle..PB was a 35 lb white eel..which I released..Most time was going for smaller White eel and the Mighty Pui Paka ( brown Moray) for Ulua Slide bait.Never knew what you were going to pull out from under those rock's.Lots of different eels there. Ty for taking me back.... Biggest Ulua From Shore Casting was 98 lbs..Peace
Adam, Let my people set you up with a Rod Buster Fishing Academy 12' Bamboo Poke Pole! I just caught my first MFPB last Friday, 22" long, we made tacos at the jetty! Always a great show! Thanks for posting.
Very interesting and funny watching and reading other comments. I am watching from down here in Sydney , Australia. Your shoes are what we call THONGS , YES THONGS FOR FEET not your backside. I suggest you get rock shoes. Freely available down here in tackle stores much safer . Eels as you know are a delicacy in Asia and EUrope. We don’t eat them here much if at all down here but I see them occasionally , smoked in artisan food stores. Not sure if you Americans are into them. But great bait.
Learned to poke pole from one of my best buddy’s dad, an old Portuguese fisherman from the azores. I poke poled the coast from Monterey to hmb, before you were even born ;) edited for autocorrect spelling..
Enzymes, tides, salts, soft metamorphic rock, it's natural breakdown and the results are good pools for the eels to be in. Interesting, educational and as usual thanks Adam. It took nature a small time to do it in her terms. 👍🏻
I would lose so many eels this way, they snap my 30lb line half the time. I started using a pair of 50lb snap swivels going directly to the hook from my coathanger wire and it works great. Monkeyface eels will attack anything that goes in their hole.

I was watching your video of when your got hit by a boat and caught you pb ling/cod, and it got me thinking of how to make your kayak faster and more responsive should you need to rapidly get out of the way of another idiot who's not paying attention. The solution can also make it a lot easier to do a full day fishing if you're inclined to have a full day on the water. 1, 500watt ebike motor kit. 2, some timing/cam belts. 3, front freewheel sprocket for a bike. 4, get a 3,000watt battery. 5, either some strong aluminum or stainless steel. The reason for using belt drive is to reduce rust, but putting the kit on the first assist level is 5mph on land with very reasonable torque on a 500watt motor if the controller will send 25amps through it. Use wax to waterproof everything like what people do with rc cars. It will mean some fabrication but the benefits for times like when you got hit would be invaluable.
Troy, can you elaborate what on you mean? If he is doing something that is not good, I'm curious to know and learn what you mean. Others might benefit as well.
You know, honestly I'd click on your videos more if you didn't have uppercase emphasis on mediocre details. 'TIDE POOL' yeah we know they are tide pools.

That’s crazy I would never have thought to fish in tide pools
How does Die Hard Fishing not have 100k plus subs! He has one of the best fishing channels hands down!
Appreciate the support!
That's an awesome technique I'll definitely try that!
That's like fly fishing for poke polers! :)
Pretty much!
8:50 trypophobia intensified 😱
adam with the changeup to retire the side👌🏽 get some Hawaiian reef booties, i think they're called takis
just googled it, 'reef tabis'
The drones shots were 🔥🔥🔥! Nice job, Adam! Don't screw that drone up!
So good! This was very entertaining. Why don’t you keep some of the smaller eels for bait?
4:26
That eel just showed you where the hole is at. In that rock shelf it bolt into.
That's the same spot that Fishermen guy go to
Genius! 🙌🏼
I like your technique brother That's how I do it too
I know its an old pole and you probably have many.. but bamboo is your go to.. Its what we use in Hawaii.
Slayed skunk fishing
You should use a monster eel to catch a monster ling! Next video! 😂
Adam, an ad for your video was Diehard Batteries lol
You rockin about a size 6 baitholder hook? I wanna try poke poleing sometime soon. Great vid as always! 🤙🏼
Yep!
@@DieHardFishing lucky friggin guess 😂. Thank you!

Aww the baby harbor seals 🦭
Shark and Orca Food.
Using flip flops on the rocks 🪨 ouch a little sketchy. But you got this lol 😂
Awesome!

way to much production and way way to much leader

diameter metal coat hanger drill and tape 5 inch fluorocarbon
top shot that will shrink down two 2 or 3 inches once u tie your
knots u want to be able to get down in those rocks if your leader
is to big it will be in there about 2 or 3 inches while your pole is a foot in there
great vid as always thanks for the laugh and if possible i would like to

Carpenter 🐝🐝🐝
These are edible??
Adam, is that a St Croix you're using to poke pole??? Lol
It's an old Shimano rod
Flip flops on slippery rocks. So California!
Brother - sister? I think they only group by second cousin's on the mother's side.
There’s die hard in sandals walking the low tide... otherwise it’s barefoot in the kayak! Time to hit the kayak again 👍
If only my Uncle is still here, he would figure how to cook those fish.
They’re so delicious :)
Flip flops and bait in hand ,fish on😨😎😅😅😅😅
If theres a drinking game for when he says “its a good one.” There should also be a drinking game for when he says “but anyway.”
Don’t for get his catch word on a bite “Ooh”
I've heard monkey faces can last up to 48 hours out of water but idk how accurate that is

this is kind of like pocket fishing!
Yu went to catch eels!
I will say this, using your pole to SCRAPE against those rocks make my stomach turn. AGH!
Troy, can you elaborate what on you mean? If he is doing something that is not good, I'm curious to know and learn what you mean. Others might benefit as well.
bingo, you said it.. it snags when the line is too long. eels are not timid. eel fishing is 100% catch.
That's the technique I grew up on as a kid in Rockaway. Pretty cool seeing someone else using it
I swear I'm watching your sub count every video lol
Me to bro i want to see him grow...
Thanks guys!
@@DieHardFishing I sent an IG message if you're interested in the offer
