Great show! I am 71, in So Cal living on sec 8 housing, food stamps! Was going to Vietnam but changing my mind now. I grew up poor in Alabama .Seems like Phillippeans my place to be! I can relate to the poverty there. I hate the USA now because of the huge change in my lifetime. I need love, peace, & happiness 🙏

I disagree with you on letting the Chinese buy up all the farmland in America. The rich foreigners would buy up all the land in the Philippines and the Filipinos would never be able to afford land.

Good point and perspective. The relative poverty makes a middle class man able to be high value to most women in PH while he is undatable in the USA.

Regarding 2-BR apartments, I heard that in Ph 2BR apartment is not the same as in the west, in Ph 2-BR condos can be squeezed in 20-30m2.

Inflation because of higher minimum wages hurts the poor more because the goods and services go up accordingly.

Unfortunately the only way the majority of Filipina’s can make any decent money is to work in other countries, then they can send money back to their families for support! Also of course there’s a lot of foreigners and companies in the Philippines that keep the country afloat too! It’s mostly an oligarch government similar to some South American countries! Thailand wouldn’t even elect the party that won the election last year!

Mark, Grand slam video. You do not pull any punches today's video. My first arrival in the Philippines was February 4, 1977, with the U.S. Marines. Poverty remained the same after 47 years and still the same as today. Realistic poverty always be. Yes, it's very sad. I agree with you a 100% hopefully in the Philippines will have better wages in the future for all Filipinos.

Thanks for advocating for Filipinos and the Philippines.
I think some people who say that money is the only reason couples are together are projecting their character to others. For them, money is their only reason for going into a relationship.

Philippine women seem to be smart enough to understand that we all get old, and we all get ugly. Love really matters. As does security. I totally get it. As seniors, we men are indeed invisible to American women. But they are the first to say that going to find a younger woman in the Philippines is disgusting. What are we supposed to do, live without love and affection the rest of our lives. It's a win win for you guys and gals over there.

Most people anywhere in the world just want to work and make enough to live on. The rich in the Philippines as in most countries take advantage of the poor. So many rich Philippinos who are working the system.

The problem in the Philippines it’s corruption and overpopulation and there’s not enough job for everybody.I payed my brothers daughter in law 300 pesos a day to take care of him during the day.l only make 1423 a month do u think I will survive with this amount to live in the Philippines. In the Philippines the only people who have safety net are politicians and all those who work with the government. Those who work with private company they don’t get nothing when they retire

I chat with two Filipinas online one in her 40's...the other in her 30's. They both complain to me about the difficulties they go through just with ordinary life. I thought about living there at one time but I could not deal with the everyday struggles. The Philippines government and business community has drastically let their citizens down. The lack of business development inside the country....a big cause of their poverty....and forcing people to leave the country to work....rolling brownouts...garbage in the streets...lack of good roads...inconsistently internet and much other. Whereas Vietnam and Thailand as example are growing leaps and bounds. Until the younger generations of Filipinos rise up and drag away the current old mentality it will be the same...in the meantime your points are right on and valid. People will always gravitate to win-win sitchies and many of these relationships are positive and work. Thanks for sharing Mark and god bless you and your family😊🙏🙏

If a man tried to take his wife and kids out to the woods and live in the nature like they do in the Phillipines, the government would come and take his children away from him and call it child abuse... It's actually happened before... Phillipines is great because they just let people be "poor" and live off the land, they are very understanding towards land rights and squatters even who have been living for free... Here in the west you can get arrested for such things . ..the over regulations here are a double edged sword... Yes they are poor there, but at least they are allowed to exist in the nature and live amongst their country men. Here in the West, we drove the Natives out and took away their land and made them to live in house's and all and submit to our system and all of the "civilized world"

Thailand has the same rules with foreigners buying land as Philippines. Not sure about Vietnam but I think it’s the same. Letting foreigners buy the land would be bad. Canada is a perfect example. An average Canadian can’t buy a condo anymore.

Truth be told, companies are opening offices in Ph because it is so cheap to hire people there, if they paid 3x of what they pay them now, they wouldn't open offices there, they would pick India or similar place, for country to flourish foreign investment is essential, I agree, but also the mindset of the people living there, look how things are run there, they need few more decades to catch up to the west.

If you live on the average social security check of say $1,700-$1,800 in the Philippines, you're certainly on the higher end of the upper middle class spectrum. You are by all means a rich person as you're making more than 5x the average monthly salary of Filipinos. You're making more money than the average lawyer and twice as much as bank managers.

  • @nicholasnovak4
    @nicholasnovak4 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Love all your videos including this one, but demanding raising wages or something like that is a socialistic idea. The minimum wage here in the West was actually enacted for the sake of whites who were loosing government contracts to Blacks who were under bidding them.
Having a minimum wage is not a cure all. It actually stifles small business growth who are a main driver of the economy.
Increasing minimum wage also drives lower skilled workers out which would include the youth and in that way makes them less desirable to hire and then they dont get valuable experience.
Very few people stay in the same position or wage in life. You start as unskilled and low wage and then as you learn more become more valuable and can get better paying jobs.
The problem of low wages in Phillipines is largely due to the population. For example, the Main reason men make more in construction in the west is simply due to supply and demand.
In general, People also can get by on less in the Phillipines due to living closer to the nature and the climate and are actually willing to work for very little and this also drives down the price of labor. Many many in the population are having a better existence just living off the land and ocean making very little, having large families than for example young men in the west who cannot even afford a wife or to buy a house .

We just got back to the States for our two month trip..And its so nice to be back where you have better roads & drivers.. Better restaurants. The problem with most expats is they didn't plan well while they were working.. You don't plan for retirement when it's time to retire. That's just a disaster in the making and the wife & I see that all the time in the Philippines. Most can't travel as they dont have the money.. Some guys get bogged down with a young girl have a kid, and thats their life. They see my wife & I travel to Australia,Singapore, and our 2 to 3 month trips back to the States.. We put an average of 9 to 11k on the rental care every year.. We enjoy our retirement to the fullest as we planned for it. That's the key. Lots of guys struggle there in the Philippines. It's sad.. some start drinking, because it does get boring at times.. their health goes down.. Plus its always good to visit with family here..our son & grandson enjoy our time with them. And the wife & I enjoy seeing old friends. It's good to keep up with old friends. We like living in both worlds.

Certainly if you are betting on growth you would have a strategy to benefit from that. I could see where there could be some trauma to it as some place will not compete with higher wages. I don't know that you really need a car in cebu and lapu lapu but having it in your budget where it is set aside doesn't hurt anything.. right now I am watching people park on the basketball court with a lot of drivers needing a fare so it is what it is.

9:43 don't make the mistake of thinking that the wealth in any developed country has not been made or sustained off the back of poverty. Why was most manufacturing taken offshore? Are you willing to buy runners at the cost of making them in North America? A car fully manufactured in America?
There is a reckoning coming. Wait for it.

Never really understood the concept of renting and making the other guy wealthier ? I'm a building contractor and have contracted up to 4800 government units a year , that's new and remodels , the main company I contract with makes a profit of 10 million a month and he's still growing monthly and yearly , I can purchase a 2 bedroom house with a security wall around it in our area on luzon for as cheap as $13,000 USD, 3 bedroom as low as 14 to 15,000 , renting 600 a month these houses would be paid off in 2 yrs , it only makes sense to leave your spouse and kids something behind without the selfishness of living where you want because the fact it's because you WANT to ? It's not practical in the real world ,people let their wants override their needs and that's the downfall of most people .

The tough part in the Philippines is the Catholic church does not believe in birth control. There's more poor young people than ever and little upward mobility. The only savior is getting some college education and work overseas in tech, med or engineering. The service sector in PH will get them maybe lower middle class. Yes, poverty in PH is very good for Ex-pats. More Ex-pats marrying Filipinos is good.

Raising the minimum wage along will not solve the proble. price regulation will need to be implemented first. Otherwise, big corporations will take the workers' salary increase by increasing the prices. Which is what they have been doing all along..
On a second note. Trump is looking to cut social security if he wins. Making it harder to retire even overseas..!!
