People fail because they don't take their finances or even most of their lives seriously, no plan, no thinking about it, no goals, just whatever feels good. So they fail at almost everything and live life as a consumer and whatever comes along their way.

We create a budget and try to stick to it. We first determine all the required expenses then add a little for entertainment, etc. That gives a cap that we try to stay below each month. Its not easy because its a low ceiling and we do fail at times. We just don't want to fail too bad consistently.
We have a separate account for vacation travels. Any expense for that comes out of that account and we're very strict with that. If the money isn't there it can't be spent. We're working our way up to being very strict with the main budget.

I agree with you. The problem over here in Canada is tenants are not paying their rent. Landlords are losing out end up selling their real estate assets.

My wife and I don't budget- we track our income and spending. We use that info to meet our overall life goals. It's exhausting and silly to "assign each dollar a mission"- that's why people fail- but it's liberating to set good goals with real spending data. It works and its sustainable.
So you guys just spend whatever and add it up after spent at the end of the month.😂 if it works lol. I have an emergency savings account as well. But I take 70% of my income and set it aside the remaining 30% is used to pay for expenses and fun for the family. That 70% I take and split it up again lol. 70% will go into my investing accounts and that remaining 30% gets put into savings.
People fail because they're lazy
For years I tracked my income. Because I knew in the eighties that what was happening in the economic wasn’t keeping up with the inflation rate. So my goal was to increase my wages to, at the very least, was to beat inflation and the currency I did save also beat inflation.
Tracking your income and spending is part of budgetting.
I dont budget, I track my income and spending to ensure i can meet life goals. What do you think budgeting is? Not every budget style is calculating every penny to put it in 20 different categories.
I budget. Calculated my necessary expenses. 25% gets invested. The rest i try not to spend but if I want a video game or a meal out I just buy it and dont worry about it. Throw the remaining in savings just cause at some point there will be significant bills for car repair/house repair etc.

I run all my money through one checking account. The monthly statement lists money deposited and money debited. The deposit amount amount needs to be larger than the debit amount most month's unless you are buying investments.

No, it's not wrong as long as you continue to build your savings. I would still invest a smaller amount, even as you continue to save for that house purchase.
