  • Motorcycle Folk Tales are a series of mini interviews with people from within the Motorcycling sphere of TH-cam.
    Starting with myself (because I was easy to book), this is the first in what I hope will become a series of mini documentaries on people from the motorcycling world on TH-cam; some you'll know, some maybe you haven't heard about yet.
    I had thought about starting this project last year, but I ran into some negativity which derailed me for a while. But I'm back on it now with a renewed sense of purpose, so hopefully this video will provide a better explanation of what I'm trying to do to prospective 'interviewees' and maybe convince them it'd be a nice thing to do.
    So if you like more of this sort of thing, please do let me know in the comments below and I'll try my very best to make it happen.
    For more info on the channel, the bike and my travels, hop on over to:

    By far the best film about motorcycling I have ever seen on TH-cam, it has an elegant simplicity which belies the effort and talent that went into making it and an honesty that is both refreshing and rare. Truly, truly beautiful

      Thanks for the nice words Alex, so glad you liked the video!

      Coming back to this, I've found myself thinking about how often on TH-cam we see and hear what people do on their motorcycles, what gadgets they've bought or what machine they've blagged from a manufacturer or borrowed from their local dealer but rarely why they do it, what inspired them to ride and why they first swung their leg over, and I wish there was more.
      I really hope others see this and think about telling their own motorcycling story, I know you've got me thinking about how I would assuming I had a tenth the talent to produce anything like this.
      In an ideal world someone would pay you to ride round the country listening and filming. I know I'd watch it, and I don't think I'd be the only one.

    • @ClassicRides
      @ClassicRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexOnABoat Thanks Alex, I had a hard time last year pitching the idea to some other TH-camrs, but now that I've done one as an example, hopefully, I can get a few more people on board. As you say, quite often we see what TH-camr's are doing at the time, but we never really see who they are, and I think that's the more interesting story in some ways. With a bit of luck I'll hopefully make a good series out of it 🙂

    • @AlexOnABoat
      @AlexOnABoat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt, I guess there's nothing to say they have to be TH-camrs, as long as they can sit in front of a camera 😉
      I come originally from the Overland & Adventure bike end of the spectrum, and there's a whole host of riders/authors/speakers with wonderful stories to tell who've never had a camera pointed at them.

    • @ClassicRides
      @ClassicRides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlexOnABoat Yes that's true, it's more of a strategic choice than anything else initially. It's likely that folk watching my videos will watch other moto-vloggers too, so I think if I can do videos on those people first, it could bring new viewers to the channel and hopefully once they see that the videos are decent, they might be more inclined to watch a video about someone they might not have heard of. Ideally I'm aiming for a mix of people you might already follow on YT and some you don't.

    Diesmal ein anderes Video, trotzdem sehr interessant, Matt. Ich habe mit fast 50 meinen Motorradführerschein gemacht, und es war eine der besten Entscheidungen der letzten Jahre. Mein erstes und bisher einziges Motorrad ist eine Moto Guzzi V7 Stone, Baujahr 2021. Ich habe sie jetzt etwas mehr als ein Jahr und bin damit ca. 9.000 km gefahren. Daneben fahre ich noch eine Vespa GTS 300 SuperTech. Deine Videos auf TH-cam haben mich dazu inspiriert, Classic Rides in meiner Heimat in Bayern (Allgäu) zu unternehmen. Mach weiterhin so tolle, entspannte Videos. Ich freue mich schon darauf. Ich wünsche dir und allen Bikern allzeit gute Fahrt…

    Hi Matt, thanks for your incite, always interesting to find out how someone gets into motorcycling. I found my love for motorcycling from a young age when my Dad would take me, my brother and our cousins to local scramble events in the lare 1970’s, following scary brave riders like Graham Noyce and Brad Lackey fly off big jumps on big air cooled 2 strokes. Even now I love the smell of 2 stroke oil in the morning. Been riding ever since I was big enough and can hopefully keep going for many years to come. Keep up the good work….

    Much enjoyed. I'm 67, been motorcycling since I was 10. Started doing distance at 15. It's been a good life. I combined my two best pass times, riding and photography. I still have my first photo from the age of four. That's when we only had nine or twelve prints on a roll. Now I have done over a million. So life is good. I still ride. Life would not be as interesting if I couldn't. So this weekend I'm photographing the fall colors of the Appalachian mountains of East Kentucky and Southwest Virginia, USA. Keep up the good work. The video movies will be a work in progress. Learning editing is a real chore. Very time consuming. Hey hang in there. Twist the grip, see the world.

      @ClassicRides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s quite the list of achievements you have there Sam. Personally I don’t find editing a chore, I’ve run my own studio for nearly ten years so spending time in front of a Mac creating things is just my day to day.

    Un petit reportage sur vous, plein de poésie et de modestie, pour la première fois vous parlez dans vos vidéos... On avait pris l'habitude de ne voir que des images, d'un motard paisible et discret, chez lui, avec son brave chien et un bouquin et sur un banc au bord d'un lac avec un thé au lait a la main... La moto loin de la fureur des villes, sur des petites routes champêtres dans la quiétude des jolis paysages que vous offre la campagne anglaise, telle est votre liberté... Continuez à faire de belles images... Jef

    Very enjoyable video. I first rode a bike (Kawasaki 550) in Germany, summer 1986. It wasn't mine, no licence, no idea and all a bit naughty. Instantly I LOVED it, and thought I had wasted my life up until that point. That day I grinned all the way from Munster to Enscede in Holland, and back. I still have that wonderous feeling every ride 37 years later (legally, of course).

I am so happy that Triumph revived and built these bikes that allow people like me to be able to re-live the joy of their motorcycling youth. First time I've watched your videos. Fascinating to hear the experiences of someone coming into it a bit later in life. I've been riding for nearly 50 years ( a few months to go to reach the date!) and we rode because it was cheap transport back then, it quickly became lifestyle, and my interest has never ever waned, Ride a 2016 T120 now as my principal transport, but I identify with lots of your comments, you sound like a decent bloke!

    Thought i seen all your vids. You sum it up very well. Riding motorcycles is and will always be my passion from 15. Now 61 and just moved to Cumbria. I'm going to ride to my last day. I can explore the north & Scotland. It's a scary thought those days are getting less. Off to the Pyrenees in 6 weeks with my wife for a two week tour. It's just the best thing touring with your other half. Keep the vids coming 👍

    Brilliant video Matt. Eloquently put. I’ve been riding for nigh on thirty years and am a retired Police biker. I did more than my fair share of riding at speed during those years. But to me riding a bike is whatever you want it to be. Now I ride my bike purely for pleasure. I ride at a chilled pace, take in the scenery, stop for a coffee, enjoy a chat to perfect strangers and visit wonderful places. Where you are a photographer, I like to draw. I enjoy my own company, have my own headspace and it is the best therapy in the World. Enjoy your work my friend. To you and everyone who get it - ride safe.

      @ClassicRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drawing was probably the only thing I was ever naturally good at, I might take some inspiration from you and get back into it in conjunction with riding!
      Sounds to me like your attitude to riding is very much as my own, but everyone has different reasons for getting in bike, I’m sure some folk think riding at sub 100mph very boring 😁

    Nice insight to how you got into bikes. As you said it will be with you forever. I started at ridding on the road at 16, OK at 15, with my 61st birthday next month I'm not going to stop. My only concern is the years are flying by and I have less and less days to ride. So to anyone who is thinking about it, gone on give it a go, life is too short.

    What a great and heartfelt film. The thing I love about bikes is everyone has their own story and journey with them and it doesn’t have to be all about going faster. My last GS only ever commuted through London, never did a trip on it and when the pandemic hit, the commute stopped. I traded it in for an R9T and fell in love with biking again where it’s all about the ride rather than just getting from A to B. Keep the films coming, they’re awesome

    I only discovered your channel today. It's different. The filming is captivating (are you a media professional?), the commentary intelligent. Needless to say I have subscribed. And liked!
    My main interest was always flying - aerobatics, farm strips, back country flying in interesting old tailwheel aeroplanes which are so much more fun that modern ones. I got my PPL licence at age 29 in 1978 and had 35 fabulous years of aviating, but many flying mates were into bikes, so at age 50 they persuaded me to do DAS and get a bike!
    I've had VFR, Blackbird, 1150 GS (rode to the Sahara and back on that from Cheshire), 1979 T140D Bonneville (last of the true Meriden Triumphs), W800, R9T, and now as of a few months ago a 2023 Bonneville Speedmaster. I've also had 'little bikes' alongside the big ones - originally a Honda C90, then a 2012 125cc Innova I bought in 2015 and still have, and probably always will.
    I'm now in my mid '70s and stopped flying a few years ago, but enjoy my Speedmaster and Innova. I'll ride bikes for as long as I can.
    Congrats on the channel!
    Cheers
