  • blood vessels (arteries/ veins/ capillaries)
veins are the vessels that carry deoxygenated blood from tissues back to the heart
pulmonary veins are exceptions as they carry oxygenated blood
    characters of veins
1- they have thin wall and wide lumen
    2- they don't pulsate
    3- they have valves
    types of veins
1- pulmonary veins carry oxygenated blood from lungs to left atrium
2- systemic veins carry oxygenated blood from tissues back to heart bu SVC and IVC
3- superficial veins are types of systemic veins and they are close to the body surface for example cephalic/basilic veins
4- deep veins are types of systemic veins and they are deep to the surface of the body and paired with an artery for example radial / ulnar veins
types of veins according to size
1- large-sized veins (superior and inferior vena cava)
    2- medium-sized veins
3- venules (very small blood vessels /allow blood to transfer from capillaries to veins)
    layers of blood vessels
arteries and veins have approximately the same layers
    1-Tunica intima/interna
    inner layer of blood vessels
contain thin layer of endothelial cells
    2- Tunica media
    middle layer of blood vessels
    consists of smooth muscles
    3-Tunica adventitia/ externa
    outer layer of blood vessels
    consists of connective tissue
    capillaries
they are very small and thin walled vessels
they connect the arterioles (arterial system) with the venules (venous system)
