One of my all time fav songs!!
At the height of his fame in the 1980s for those who don't remember it. The band was huge on the teeny bop scene. It was a very quick it felt rise to fame and it burned out just as quick it felt. The band is Culture Club. Not Boy George and Culture Club. This being how media outlets advertised them in the end knowing George was the main crowd pleaser. The rest of the band I believe got a tad annoyed over being always in his shadow. George back then was treated I believe like a novelty by the media mainly due to his image. The addiction destroyed so much. The media were quite cruel in certain circles. Its the past. I think George today on chat shows is playing it too safe. He doesn't say anything like he once did. That entertainment value is gone. He just plays the media game now.
Yes it IS called JUST Culture Club you're right BUT I ordered some mags and books from the 80s. They were titled "Boy George and culture club" for some reason. Also I read one of the books from 84..I believe called "When Cameras Go Crazy" and the others, especially Roy saying it was hard for them at first...but then they moved on, esp since George always credited the whole band when he recieved awards. I like how loyal Roy and Mikey were..since most things revolved around Jon& George for obvious reasons. I wouldve left in a heartbeat but something kept those 2 loyal. That's how you know friends are REAL friends if you're still with them after so many years. I commend the whole band for sticking through thick and thin. Not all groups pull that off.
