    Cody's lab is one of the only channels that I am interested in and every time that he comes out with a new video I flock to it. It just fascinates me how he knows so much and the amount of thought that goes into it blows my mind, who knew platinum was so easy to come across.

    • @letstrend
      @letstrend 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      which means you'd need a lot of spent spark plugs and a large operation to make it worth your while to actually do this.

    • @MrBrew4321
      @MrBrew4321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cody'sLab Speaking of math, it seems like a lot of your videos are like, "please do the math first, this is just for fun, you'd actually loose money if you did this." Well I have two questions, are you making money overall? And do you plan to make money, for example if you did videos and turned a profit on the mining operation, that would be sick!
      Ps I just assume you are making money from ad revenue/ patreon, I'm really curious if your experiments and whatever else are generating money.

      You'd need to spend a day at the junkyard clipping off leads into a baggie to make anything reasonable. You'd also have to take into consideration the cost of the acids involved and so on so forth to see if its a worthy investment. It's a worthy investment IMO if you gather 2000+ spark plug leads (which is entirely possible) before doing a batch of these. Implying this is not a good source of primary income but some side spending cash. That iridium bead was only worth about $0.09 though :L not sure how much palladium one could make doing this.

      He knows that, that's what he asked: "assuming it is a perfect sphere, did you verified its density to see if it matches with the nominal density of platinum?" … that's just to put it in other words, he wasn't asking how to obtain the density of an object.

    I did the math, to get an ounce of pure platinum via this method, you would need a whopping 14,000 spark plugs. 2 milligrams per spark plug = 500 spark plugs per gram, just over 28 grams = 1 ounce, 28 x 500 = 14,000

      I've read comments that say that TH-cam pays between 300 and 4000 USD
      for a million views, depending on the type of content and location of
      the creator. Cody has averaged roughly 600k views on his more recent
      videos, so that would be about 5000 USD every week. Not bad. :)

    @Cody'sLab
    Almost correct on the gapping reason mate: Too big a gap & the spark is delayed- retarding ignition, and if too small a gap & the spark is to early- advancing ignition. Think of the spark plug as a kind of capacitor, dumping out the charge when it has reached a sufficient voltage to bridge the gap. Either way can be used in older engines (especially 2 strokes) to tune best for a given rev range. Awesome vid as always, thanks buddy!

    Awesome! Do you have any plans of trying different ammonium nitrate based explosives in the mine like ANFO? It might save you a little bit of money on Al powder (And if you do it right you can eliminate the NO2 fumes).

    Extract cyanide from fruit seeds...

    • @snowstorm9818
      @snowstorm9818 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if you're talking about how apple seeds supposedly contain cyanide, that wouldn't really be possible, as they don't contain actual cyanide, but rather amygdalin, a compound that produces cyanide when it comes in contact with digestive enzymes, which means that in order to actually get the cyanide, you'd need someone to eat the seeds, which would both make the cyanide irrecoverable and kill the person eating it.

    • @clansapngad9312

    Cody the AC Delco plugs are OEM. They were original in the car. No one saw them until they were spent. That is why they aren't labeled. Any fine wire electrode (.4-.8mm) will be Platinum or Iridium. You can also tell by the ignition system if they are single or double. Single coil vs Waste spark (GM coil packs) in the coil packs the electric arcs swap origination points and the platinum must be on both sides because of this. Iridium is usually only on the electrode. The ground strap (hooked part) Will have a platinum pad.
    Fun fact: Iridium if not an Element that naturally occurs on Earth. ALL the Iridium we have is located in the layer of dust from the large meteorite strike that killed the dinosaurs. Love the videos. Keep them coming!

    The unmarked spark plugs; my guess is that they were sold in bulk to a car manufacture, so the spark plug company may not bother to mark them. Thanks for another insightful video. I've already learned so much from watching this, and Grant Thompson, I built my own Aluminum forge. TH-cam is important, don't ever let it change.
