Justin this is some dope quality content. I really like how your video is straight to the point. I ended up ordering one MIDWAY through your video haha!!
Just found your channel this week Justin. Production quality is thru the roof! You deserve more subscribers than you have but I have no doubt that they're coming!
Question: if you accidentally leaned against a rock or took a hard hit on that side, is it possible the metal would break the window? Are there rubber bushings or pads in the back of it to protect the window from scratches?
Came across your channel when looking at reviews of the Garmin Overlander and watched your tutorial on Gaia and was hooked. Great work, great personality in your videos!!
Locking cap, to prevent someone from syphoning the gas? Are they plastic, or steel?? Can you lock that "tank" so it can't be removed? Is the entire unit, theft-proof?? Thank you
I’m not sure that Rotopax makes a locking cap to avoid fuel theft. They do make a locking mount thought. As far as the PakRax being theft proof, like most things installed. I’d someone shows up with tools, an understanding of the install, and some time on their hands, they could likely uninstall it. I can’t say I’ve heard of that ever happening though.
Love your location. On the west desert. Just around the corner from you is a small cave. I also enjoyeed your install looks good. I think i will look into that for my new, at least to me, JK jeep. Thanks for the presenting this videol.
OK, it's been a few months since this install, and I notice on the latest video the fuel packs are gone, replaced by tools. I assume you know your distances and range, so this question is about how the TrailPax rack is holding up. Specifically, how is the hardtop bottom edge and drip rails where they mount holding up? Any fatigue in the fibreglass with the accumulated miles and offroading? (This assumes you have been offroading with gas on the racks. Still catching up on videos on the channel, so please forgive me if I've missed something related to this. ;) ).
what about security? If it's super easy to remove then how do you prevent someone from lifting it when you're parked around town (can't always be out on a trail)?
I must have watched your video a half a dozen times, but still haven't pulled the trigger on purchasing the Trailrax Pak Rax Rotopax mounting system. I'm trying to justify the high cost of this product, balanced with having the capability to carry an extra 4 gallons of gas. This present setup is well North of $600.00. A promotional code or two might push many viewers and subscribers towards making a favorable decision sooner than later.
@Peter Charron real world? I’ve had mine on for a year, just did the Pony Express (twice) and never take them off. They are performing great. That being said, I use mine more like a bed rack, I added the Long Range America auxiliary tank so I don’t need RotoPax - I’m just not a huge fan of their products.
Love the jeep, does the passenger rear also open up with the 2 gal water and storage box? Looks like it is too long. Was thinking about this for 2, 2 gal water pax, but need rear seat access.
MaxTrax would be too long there. I tried and they blocked my rear passenger door. It doesn’t have a locking mechanism but someone would need to unbolt the thing to walk away with it. Rotopax does offer a locking mount though to secure your fuel tanks.
@@JustinBMcBride just bought one! I’m nought it to the side of my future camper with some L track. Just got figure out how to mount the rotopax to the L track. Does this company make something for an L track setup? Or have any pointers ?
Excellent video! I want these for sure. I did sub. excellent work on the vid! feeling inspired by you to.better work on my own videos! keep it up! perfecto!
Really thought I found the perfect rack... until I followed the link and saw the price. $450 for a few pieces of metal and some bolts? No thanks. My search continues. Thanks for the great video though.
I will sell you my other rack for 200.00. it comes with two racks for each side of your jeep. Let me know. Its brand new and still needs to be put together.
The first "mod" to my new JL was the addition of convex mirror dots to my mirrors. The little ones that are about 2 inches in diameter. Even though I have the safety package with the sensors for vehicles on the side, I wanted the extra confirmation, and they also come in handy to know whats on the outside of the jeep, near the back tires or to see around objects like these Paxs mounted on the side. Mounted the mirrors on the lower outside of the stock mirrors.
The Pacrax started to rust within less than a month during the summer. I contacted the sales guy, he said thats normal, but offered to replace the product. I decided to wait, and the rust has gotten exponentially worse after a few months. Customer service is blaming it on user error and won't provide any support now. Sent several pictures and screenshots of convos, but they say I didn't use common sense by not taking them off during the winter time.... I keep my rig clean and it's not even my daily driver. I would never recommend this product to anyone especially because of the customer service.
That’s crazy. I live in Utah - one of the worst for salty roads, and have zero rust on mine. Did the powder coat crack or something to start the rust growing? I’ll keep an eye on mine, but so far as I can tell, I don’t have any rust at all.
@@JustinBMcBride maybe my products were faulty from the beginning, but its outrageous they are blaming me for the issue, especially since I told them about it within a month of installing the product which was well before winter. If I showed you the email thread between me and customer service, you'd be disappointed in the company.
So this little metal stuff that could cost dozens of dollars to produce is wopping 500 bucks. Jeep stuff is way overpriced. I wouldn't buy it. Nice video, though.
Best Rotopax mount I’ve seen yet. On my list, thanks Justin!
Yeah! They’re pretty rad. It’s like a Bed Rack for a wrangler.
Wow a nice quick easy assembly, legit!
Thanks man - nice and easy.

Yeah, I need to find that cave. Doesn’t it have pictographs in it?
I was legitimately shocked when I found out this small little rack cost over $500....love the look...but so expensive.
Damn near every Jeep aftermarket product . It’s honestly dumb
Everything from Rotopax is 💵💵💵

I added a Long Range Fuel tank. No need to carry Rotopax anymore.
Was wondering where you disappeared to - saw your reddit posts and was glad to know you’re alright.
Yeah! I’m good. Just got caught with some work that was more important than personal projects.
Justin B. McBride I noticed the 2 gallon water and storage cans look like they block the rear door from opening - am I right?
Darcy Novak no - the door opens just fine. It’s just the perspective of where I’m standing in the shot.
Looking forward to your build. Clean, simple and functional. Great video. Keep up the good work.
I love the design but the price is crazy. Gonna build my own. Also how much does this obstruct the sideview mirrors.
Wow, that's great, exactly what I was looking for to add jerrycans to my overland JLU.
Impossible to find them in Europe, I hope they ship overseas.
Rotopax.com sends worldwide, it is a great system. Look at the blemished cans for some savings.
Looks so clean! How do you keep someone from stealing it?
You can lock the Roto pax, but that's not gonna help. They're just gonna steal the whole thing.
Answered my questions.. thanks
Love it! Can't wait to see what else is in store for Cool Rick.
Off topic: What product do you use for your hair?
Old spice pomade.
@@JustinBMcBride Sweet. Thanks! Keep up with the fantastic content and stay safe!
Hi Justin, great video by the way looking to do this on my jeep. Question on your jeep setup, is that a 35in tires with no lift?
It may not have been lifted when I made this video. But yes. It had 35s. But I eventually added a 2.5” lift from Teraflex.
Perfect job bro 👌🏻
are you worried about it chewing out the paint and fibreglass when going over trails and rocky terrain ?
+Michael Cook I added some nice rubber weather stripping to all the areas that it comes in contact with the paint.
@@JustinBMcBride did i miss this or did you not mention it??
Michael Cook I mentioned it just quickly though. Or it may have been in a clip I cut. lol.
Awesome stuff!
Hi Justin, what size are your tires and rims? I love em
Sweet install video. Jeep is looking great bud! 👊🏻
what about security? If it's super easy to remove then how do you prevent someone from lifting it when you're parked around town (can't always be out on a trail)?
I never had that issue. I took the cans off while around town, no need for extra fuel when at home.
@@JustinBMcBride I’m planning long overland trips so I won’t always have the option of removing them when off trail. But appreciate the review. Thanks
Were I buy the mounting kit
I would like to get this.... where? I can’t seem to be able to find it.

I want to buy some of these. My question is this.. Do they give you anything to prevent scratching your jeeps paint?
Love the jeep, does the passenger rear also open up with the 2 gal water and storage box? Looks like it is too long. Was thinking about this for 2, 2 gal water pax, but need rear seat access.
Yeah, both sides open just fine. That’s just the perspective of the shot. But yes. They both open just fine.
What do you say about quality of that can?
Good review. Like to have a pair and it’s a good solution
Can you have two 4 gallon rotopax on one side or does it only allow enough room for one 4 gallon rotopax?
Yeah! You can double up! 16 gallons extra!
Is it possible to Mount Traction Boards to this? Even if the boards aren’t full size?
If you have a 2 door, yes.
Love it!
Any additional wind noise when on highway?
A little, but it’s a Jeep so noise is second nature.
What happened to the compressor relocation project?
Waiting on a few parts. Shipping messed up and sent stuff to an address in Idaho somewhere. Had to reorder and it’s taking EXTRA long.
Love it! are u selling yours 😂
How sturdy is this system? Have you took the Jeep out with this on/full of gas?
Do the gas tanks reduce visibility in the side mirrors?
Nothing insanely noticeable.
Just purchased this system. Do you notice any wind noise from them while driving?
Not really. I notice my tent/roof rack more.
Would this mount work for maxtrax boards? Also, does this mount have a locking mechanism? I don't remember catching that in the video.
MaxTrax would be too long there. I tried and they blocked my rear passenger door.
It doesn’t have a locking mechanism but someone would need to unbolt the thing to walk away with it. Rotopax does offer a locking mount though to secure your fuel tanks.
Justin, these are pretty expensive. Is there any coupon code they gave you that we can apply for like 15 or 20 percent off?
what size are the tires? 37"?
35
Where do you purchase it?
Is that a 4 gallon fuel can?
It is. Each side can hold up to 8 gallons or two of these tanks per side.

That thing looks awesome and easy to install and remove. But.....$400? That’s seriously crazy money.

Do these come with 1 or 2 racks?
They are sold in pairs.
How many gallons does it let you carry?
You can carry up to 8 gallons on each side.
So if you don't have the rain gutters like a 2007 jeep wrangler jku hard top then what ?
Does it fit a jk?
Yes, they have a model available for the JK: geni.us/JK_PakRax
