Excellent video, very well done, very helpful & soooooo true. My Riot's the exact same story. Shredded boots, seems to be a sticking strut, loose stabilizer links & all sorts of other associated rattles & moans & groans & squeaks. I dunno, did Jeep market this junk as "off-road" equipment? Don't by a Jeep. They're heaps. :s
this car really did ruin my image of jeep. despite all of the issues its surprisingly a very capable 4wd car when it comes to mud and snow. its not worth very much at this point, I plan to just keep it as a farm vehicle to tow stuff around...when it breaks bad enough ill just leave it wherever it is lol
Yeah I have had crazy front end issues on my 2007 compass. Replaced both control arms, rank and pinion, rotors two times and machined once, stabilizer bushings, front struts. I'm pretty close to selling it and just getting someone that is half decent. Jeep Compass has been a big FAIL! I've never seen a POS like it in history.Oh yeah and there is still knocking on sharp right turns... I'm taking it back to the shop... but there's nothing left to replace.
Agree. my wife likes the jeep cherokee (which i hope is better than this compass) but after all the headaches ive dealt with, i really dont wana support jeep by buying their vehicles anymore.
qlcmusic From what I researched the patriot and compass problems have been more quit since 2011. It took them 4 years!!?? WTF, anywways I picked up a 2014 compass (because I'm cheap)... I should have made spare control arms a part of the deal...
your welcome, my methods weren't the greatest in this vid, I've since learned a few things, also if I could do it again I would definitely have replaced the strut bearing at the same time. further more, prices for coil over shock/struts have come down quite a bit so its definitely worth it now to just pay a little extra and bolt on the whole thing
just wanted to add a comment as its been a while, two things I would have done differently... the price of a coil over shock/strut assembly is cheaper now than at the time of the vid, just save yourself the headache and buy the whole thing from rock auto, if you really don't want to do that than make sure you also order and replace the strut bearing at the time you replace the strut. secondly, when you remove the sway bar end links ( min 2:24 ) use a jack to lift up the control arm assembly just a little bit, helps everything line up and slide off/on. there are many other videos about replacing sway bar ends links to see what I mean. Good luck
thats the sway bar end link, a year after this video I had to replace both of those too. I removed them the hard way in this vid, if you use a jack under the control arm or brake caliper to give it just a little lift, everything lines up and they bolt on/off really easily ( aside for any rust you may have).
struggle is real man, its never ending. were over 150k miles now and front end is ok but its taken a lot of time and hours to get to this point, plus there have been other annoying issues like the gas tank not filling properly which is a major pain...
Once I heard Jersey I thought there's the likely cause of the suspension issues.
What size allen wrench
I'm curious if you replaced the strut mounts during this replacement?
I did not as they were solid with no rust
For one, wear and tear on a vehicle is normal, all of them need repairs eventually. You shouldn't be make-ist lol. thanks for the help!

I can't sell it now because the whole front end is new... but I still get a knocking sound...mechanic says it might be a motor mount.
the entire MK platform had suspension issues early on ( compass, patriot, caliber)

Dodge Caliber is the same chassis and uses the same strut part numbers.
