Cribbing Rescue Training for CERT/Search & Rescue Team

When attempting to rescue victims trapped under heavy non-structural items, you should always use rescue cribbing for stabilizing the outside corners while lifting the object from the middle using the fulcrum and lever provided with this set. This mechanical advantage lifting technique keeps everyone safe. Always use Cribbing during lifting for victim and rescuer safety.

On a 24 in crib I was always taught 4 inch over hang each side. Smallest over hang ever heard was 2inches each side.

For heavy rescue (building collapse) that would be appropriate. We are teaching light rescue while stabilizing contents only.

Could CB radios work just as good if you can't get a ham radio?

@@ronaldrobertson2332 CB is only 4 watts I believe. It can talk long distances when the conditions are right. Ham covers both potential short and long distances. Often repeaters cover local areas and are used for Skywarn operations.

I understand the concept. Without wood blocks at hand, then what? Any demonstration using debris left after an earthquake, for example?

Anything that is even on both sides and non collapsible under load will work. Of course we train all our schools and business clients how to use cribbing as a tool and to have on hand as they would any preparedness supplies. If you have search teams in place, you should have cribbing also. That being said if one is in a situation without cribbing and they have training they can improvise with what is at hand.
