    This was the best repair video I have seen. Nice and clear good sound. I was afraid to replace my water pump impeller until I saw this. I even like the fact that you could fast forward parts. Good close ups and good lighting. Thank you I will look forward to more ETEC repairs!

    Thank you sooooo much for this video saved me a lot of money!!!!!!! The only little part that I had to replay handfuls of times too be clear was the reason you slide the key and gasket down the shaft the gasket it just to help hold the key in place while sliding housing and impeller when the key slips in the impeller the gasket drops down and sits on the bottom of the shaft out of the way. Then lift up on the shaft turn counter clockwise for a turn then lift up on the shaft and turn clockwise you will feel it click in that’s it! I have a pair of 175hp Etecs! I was quoted $1,000 per motor for 300hr service I spent $300 in total for parts for both motors saved $1,700.00 it was super easy anyone can do it!!!!! Just take your time follow the video exactly you will be fine! West Palm Beach FL

    Thanks! Great video .... much better than others. It was good to see the procedure of holding the impeller key on the shaft with the o-ring and also the hint to turn the shaft counter clockwise to unlock key, then lift up on the shaft and turn clockwise to re-lock the key thus setting the impeller in its optimal position.

    I have read and watched a couple different sources on water pump replacement, each having it's own little nuggets of wisdom. This video has come the closest to compiling all the little tricks. And completely new ones like the keyway/oring trick and only one other source (read) talked about pulling up on the shaft an turning to lock into place - nice to see it done in video. Easy to see this is far from your first water pump rodeo. Thank you for posting!

    Thank you for this video. It was very helpful..
    I watched the "how to" water pump video from Wholesale Marine and I could not figure out how the ****** they managed to get the water pump put together without pinching the big o-ring. When I tried it their way that o-ring kept getting knocked out of place by the impeller because they said to put the water pump case on over the impeller while it was already on the drive shaft. This video made MUCH more sense. Thanks for a common sense approach!! (..I wonder how many Wholesale Marine pumps are out there leaking because the o-ring is installed wrong?)

  • @martiwf0
    @martiwf0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good video, but like all the rest, nothing is said about lining up the pump outlet with the pipe inside the upper unit when putting it back together. Some of those upper pipes floop around and it is next to impossible to get them to line up. Plus, they only start to meet up with each other when the space to look in there is too small. I completely missed the line up when I put mine back together. I didn't know about it until the motor overheated. It took me several attempts to finally get them to hook up. I don't know why none of these Evinrude videos ever mention that. I would think that to be a very important issue to bring up.

    If the impeller key falls out during installation, will the impeller just free-spin? My G2 has the exact same impeller key. I used the o-ring to hold it in place just like you and slid the impeller over it. It seemed to go on smooth, but I hate how you can't really see it go on from the top like my old mercury. I rotated the shaft clockwise and I could see the impeller rotating inside through the hole in the top of the pump housing. I think it went on correctly, but any advice would be helpful.

    excellent tutorial thanks for explaining. all other impellor videos I've sean they slide the impellor over shaft then houseing. why did you put the impellor inside the houseing then slide both the peller & houseing over the shaft? I'm considering buying a engine just this this do you think 1500 hours is too much an the engine could be worn out. seller says good compression. thanks for any tips.

  • @Grandpa_RLP
    @Grandpa_RLP 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a question for you. I have not been able to find any video for a 1992 Evinrude 48 SPL. It comes apart much like this one but when I take the bolt loose from the linkage and then try to lower the unit off the bottom it doesn't want to come out. The reason it will not come all the way down (2" is all) is because there is a rubber boot that the linkage goes through at the top and the flat part of the linkage on the end is bigger than the round part so it doesn't want to pull through. Does yours have this boot?? Should I lubricate the shaft and force it through?? Do you think it comes apart somewhere else and doesn't actually pull through?? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine didn't have that boot, sorry.

    • @Grandpa_RLP
      @Grandpa_RLP 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      NEILVVT I went ahead and lubricated the linkage shaft and pulled through the rubber boot. The boot pulled out of the hole like I was afraid of and is now down inside. There is also a boot on the lower end which also pulled out. I was able to put it back in because you could just reach it from the bottom but the top one is still inside the housing somewhere hopefully will not cause a problem in the future but I am shocked that no one else has ever said anything about the boots. I did get my water pump put in and everything is working fine but I don't understand the lack of talk about boots in any of the hundred videos I watched.

    HI
    I have seen and done on a Yamaha Outboard, instead of fitting the impeller into the housing, you fit O.ring and Key to the shaft, then the impeller to the shaft, that way you see the Key sitting in place, then as you fit the water pump housing you turn the drive shaft counterclockwise whilst gently pushing on the housing and the impeller seats itself into the housing.
    Would this work on a Etec 115hp? as its easier than trying to install the impeller and then slide onto the shaft.
