About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

You say it's 300,000£ but it's also all of your hard work, the materials, the septic tanks, the workforce even with all of the wonderful volunteers... The furniture, the landscaping - I would love to have an episode of the math behind these four years. Cause you all seem to be not only great, hardworking, talented and skillful people, but also good financial managers to be able to tackle it all ❤❤❤
Thanks Helena 🥰
Why not lease some of the uncultivated or fallow arable land for farming?
Ash's quote, "It's the life we want," says it all.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
the life they want and they wanted to dump family members to reach this goal. What a great morale.
It’s easy to sit behind your keyboard and type nasty things , perhaps this is not the Chateaus family for you to follow. Just move on.
@@claudetteparadis3969 Well its honest to point out what this family kicked a family member back to the UK. "Its the life we want" is just a monstrous statement in light of this all. Ppl should care about each other more, not kicking them away all alone.
@@bean7750 Seriosly, I am at a loss for words.
@@claudetteparadis3969 then we are both. How can a family dump so harsh a family member without love and do like its normal? The morale is very bad. This isnt right to do. Why do you agree with it?
I think that Dan Preston has shown that a new roof IS hard work but not the impossible thing that most people imagined.
Ash thank you for a tour of your grounds. So many out buildings and so much potential. Earlier when you’re done a tour it all seemed overwhelming. Years later it seems manageable. You all have proven that hard work achieves the dream. You are blessed!
Thank you for sharing with us! The property is much bigger than I imagined. You all have done wonders during the time you've been there. 😊
Thanks Charlotte 🥰
😂тоже в шоке.
What amazes me most is that you do not see any ruins. You see potential and a vision that is a doable and joyful adventure. Thanks for the tour.
So good to hear future plans for some of the buildings, with all the skills you have developed the future is assured.
By buying this property your nice and talented family had created a life plan for the years to come.As the refugee from Ukraine I carefully foĺow all the videos, what allows me not to forget about my previous prewar life in my country, my country side house and beautifull land, my plans... Thanks a lot for all your efforts to restore the historical buildings in France for the sake of future generations. Olena M.
Thanks Olena 🥰
Да 👍 классно реставрацию проводят я из Казахстана смотрю подписчиков 50тыс было тогда
@@chateaudelalacelle and if you think about it, you can have multiple generations living in the same land, your son if he decided to not leave could live there with his wife and kids and their kids can decide to live there as well since there is so much rooms and space for multiple families to live
Thanks for the tour. Having the open beautiful land is quite the bonus!!
Thanks Clay 🥰
The property is absolutely huge, and selfishly I am thinking, yay, so much content to watch the transformations of the outer buildings for years to come!
You're making your own village..love it
Thank you 😊
It is amazing that you got all the buildings and land for that price. And I have no doubts that you all will be able to make all your dreams for this property come true.
Thanks Maggie 🥰
What a great walk around! Over the different videos we have seen bits and pieces...... but this really kind of brought it all together! It is awesome that there is so much potential and you and Terry and Tracy are the ones to bring these spaces back to life! You are so lucky to have all the open space and woods - just to enjoy! Your future guests and family and friends will also enjoy it🥂💕🇨🇦
I’ve never had a tour around the associated land, I’d no idea how extensive the land was and had never seen the lake. The bridge at the lake is gorgeous. Thank-you x
Thanks dolly 🥰
Another cracking episode, you really do get more for your buck I France. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous, and you can make use of all the properties you have, with relatives living with you. Fantastic ❤😊
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Wow…you are right…so much gorgeous land as part of the price. I would say that God put your family there for many reasons. Your dreams and aspirations true. But to heal the land with your love. Bring unity with neighbors. And create a haven for family. Bravo dear family!!
Thanks so much 🥰
Patrick directing the way again.
Always 🥰
It’s been a pleasure watching you all make this into a beautiful home 🥰
Thank you so much! ☺️
You had a dream and it became a reality....Congratulations!🎉❤
Thanks Jai 🥰
Thanks for the tour, Ash. What an amazing property with endless possibilities! Blessings to you & Terry, Tracy & Johnathan & the rest of the Chateau de Lalacelle family!! 🇺🇸
AND there is no point in having a great chateau without a good piece of land around it.
The Chateau and land are beautiful. I can feel your love and enthusiasm. So happy for your family ❤
If we were younger! I’m so happy that you have found a peaceful place and enjoyable place to live.❤😊
I planted 150 trees in my garden, small trees but in clumps or for coppicing. I would suggest small saplings bare root and dip them in an enriched mud to 'praline' them as they say here. I had never imagined that they would grow so well and so fast and I lost none. I did prepare the holes really well, dug deep made sure the earth was mobile, put in well decomposed compost, 'corne torrifié' and dried blood depending. Chicken manure also. They grew much bigger and better than the bigger expensive trees I bought thinking that THEY would fill in fast. You could also mix in some fruit trees so you get a return. I would not suggest a 'murier' as the mess is out of this world but figs and pears make interesting trees; Around the edge of my land towards the road I planted forsythia, double lilac, buddlea, snow ball and other flowering trees and shrubs instead of a plain run of same plants. They all grew together and made a lovely hedge. I did plant a varigated Portuguese Laurel to one side and pruned it had to make it into a tight shape, took three years as it is a fast grower and can be pruned hard. We had a whole row of mirabelles on one side and to hide the car port I planted sticks of willow that grew fast and I coppiced them at a metre hight each year. Cost almost zero as you can find willow most places and any branch will grow if stuck in the ground. There is a lovely white rambling rose called 'Wedding day' that I trained over wires through some of the trees making bowers, lovey rose.
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
@@chateaudelalacellecan I respectfully suggest taking a few hours out of your busy schedule to make a start on some tree planting to get at least some established asap. Maybe start a “sponsor a sapling” appeal so we can help and have a named tree in perpetuity (like Stephanie’s stars)? Great work, great channel! 😊
What an amazing piece of property you have purchased for 3000,000£
I never would’ve imagined that amount of land and buildings were there, how fantastic it is to see such potential for you all to enjoy and create. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much 🥰
Jonathan's future is in this Chateau. All your hard work now will mean you can employ staff to help when you reach retirement age, fish in the lake, grow vegetables and plants. Entertain plus have paying guests. All the hard work will be worth it. Well dine everyone 💕🇦🇺

If you and your family came with the deal for $300k, I'd be the first in line. You are what makes the business model work.
❤ from TX!
My grandparents had a dream and succeeded. The home was in dier need of work and the barn. My grandparents were hard working, and the family helped out. Because of a very dishonest family member after they passed, we lost it all. It was the families legacy. God bless you guys. I only have love, admiration, and the hopes that you all are continued to be blessed!! ❤
Thanks so much. Sorry for your dishonest family member 😢😢
@@chateaudelalacelle Thank you. I merely wanted to express my heartfelt appreciation for your story and the hard work it takes to achieve your dreams. Bless you all!
Just a beautiful parcel of land, you all have definitely shown the world what can be done by a family, I think the lifestyle makes up for all the hard work. I'm sure you're pinching yourselves each day you wake up, realising you own a piece of paradise 😊
Absolutely. Thank you 🥰🥰
💜💙💚 Happy weekend everyone.
Thanks Tiamat 🥰
Never realised how large the grounds are 😀😀😀😀 A DREAM COME TRUE. ✅✅✅✅✅
Thank goodness you bought this chateau and brought life back to it. Everything you do is perfectly done!
I loved this video!! I knew the property was huge and we’d only seen what you had actively been working on. And I love that Paula and Pete will have their own home on your property
Thanks Sonia 🥰🥰
I bought a house in France in 2012 with 3/4 acre of land for £68.000. Grew food and had lots of fruit trees on the land, it was a very peaceful life.
Only reason I came back to the UK is because I got cancer and I was in France alone with all my family back in the UK. Loved my time in France in the countryside, but value being with family more. Always seems to be the need for family that brings the Brits back home.
It’s incredible the amount of land that came with the Chateau. Of course there would have been much more land when the Chateau was built two hundred years ago. Great video Ash.
Absolutely Claudette. We have 10 hectares and it used to be 100!! 🥰🥰
I looked it up, 10 hectares is about 24 acres, thats a lot of land for the price you paid. You’ve certainly increased the value of your property with all the work you’ve been doing. That large field (acreage), you could lease to a farmer, keep a few cows and not have to worry too much about mowing. We have almost 30 acres, most of it covered in trees, but the parts that are bare, it’s a job keeping it mowed. Continued success with your home, it is certainly becoming a beautiful little piece of paradise, and thanks to all your family and friends who have helped along the way.
Tysm for the drone shots and area maps, it really helps see the big picture! A wonderful tour!
Ash, i love the enthusiasm that you have for your property and projects! I’m sure that there are moments when each or all of you wonder what the bloody hell you got yourself into, but a short view of these videos would give you a shot of energy. A fine future is surely in store for all of you.
Thanks so much Paul 🥰
Loved looking around all the land . Alot of hard work but well worth it ❤
Thanks Nelle 🥰
Thank you so much for the video. What a beautiful piece of property. ❤
Thank you for the lovely tour! Your story is a beautiful one, and it helps me to believe that love and hard work can accomplish anything. Wishing all of you the best!
wondweful all, I enjoyed the tour!
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰
I loved this episode, never realised how much land and so many buildings you actually have lucky you a schedule of work till retirement
It’s a stunning property, and you all are making it a beautiful stunning property.👏
Thanks for the tour and putting the land & all the buildings in perspective!
Love to hear of your future plans. You have such a beautiful piece of land.
Thanks Karen 🥰
I love Patrick directing this! 😊
I loved that tour. I haven’t missed one podcast but now I understand the whole place. I get your joy. 🇨🇦
Love your enthusiasm, you are really, really happy with your lot in life! Very refreshing to see in this cynical world of cups half empty.
Your enthusiasm is fantastic and you have done such a great job
That vast field of yours was very good for camping or summer activities like kite flying ...maybe someday in the future you'll be able to have activities sponsored such as mention in your chateau... 🥰🥰🥰.
Great video Ash! Well done.
Thank you for the wonderful tour of your land. Seeing the overhead and plan helped immensely to understand the breadth of your property. Lovely times ahead in your planning as well.
Love the tour. What a beautiful place and I have no doubt any renovation done by this team will be beautiful 😍😘
Thank you for giving us a tour. I have always wondered what the entire property looks like. You have all done a fantastic job.
Thanks Ross 🥰
Hello Ash from our farm in New Hampshire. Yes, 300, 000 was a fantastic price for that property! With all your funds and labor over the past four years, what are your short term plans to start bringing in cash? Tented lawn dinner affairs? Or small holiday cottages in the open field? What you all have done to date is amazing! I have been following you from the beginning. Our farm is established. Your enterprise is a magical place unveiling itself at every turn ~ Diane
I wishes I was 40 years of age. Than I would move to france and live the dream❤😊
Thank you 🥰🥰
You have found a treasure that you are nurturing and making priceless. Something to consider is patches of wild flowers in your fields. They don’t require any maintenance, birds and insects love it and it’s beautiful!
I just had to pause at 53 seconds and drink in the stunning gardens the team has created. Breathtaking.
This was tremendously helpful in getting a picture of the whole of the property. Thank you, Ash!
Congrats! Blessings that you buy that property. Too beautiful.
Thank you so much for the tour today. While I have watched from the beginning ( 2nd episode) and when I couldn’t sleep, sing your 2 nd year 12 days of Christmas for fun, I had forgotten just where Paula and Pete’s cottage will be. Sending warm congrats on your continued achievements. Phyllis from NJ.
Thanks so much Phyllis 🥰🥰
Thanks for showing it all.
none of the residents in the area want to see decay and houses and properties falling into disrepair. you save part of the area's history and make it flourish again. I think your family is loved and velcome. And all of us viewer on TH-cam are amazed and very happy for you.
Clearly your family found a treasure and thank goodness the treasure found all of you!! At some point, you'll probably be employing people from the area. Wonderful job and can't wait to watch for years to see what you decide to do with your property. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Ash, it's wonderful to listen to your passion, especially regarding the history of your chateau and land. It's wonderful to see Terry's plans come to fruition and overall it's wonderful to see your family's dedication to a wonderful future.
Be still my heart! It's so amazing, the work you've done, I love watching the progress!
L❤VE from Texas!
Wow your land is beautiful- it was nice to see the butterfly garden and see all of the other buildings you have. I can’t wait to see what you do with them ❤
so much wonderful land and buildings the possibilities are endless
So much potential and possibilities for years to come as you start to tackle all thise cool outer buildings some day! Its exciting as it probably means there's content also for us to enjoy for years to come :)
Thank you 🥰
WHAT A GREAT TOUR!!❤
Ash, thank you for taking us on a tour of your beautiful property, showing us buildings we haven't seen before and hearing your plans for the future of those. You have all done such incredible and beautiful work on the Chateau already and on Tracy's cottage, you are inspirational to everyone. I love watching your videos and really look forward to each and every one, thank you for sharing xx
Great to have a walk around and see what you get for a budget. So many people go into these projects with insufficient funds to actually start, let alone get to the finish line. You as a family have gone about it in the correct way and will romp home with energy to make it all work for you all. On a side note, Johnathan is such a lucky lad, all the experiences from using tools at a young age, driving the tractor, working with you and interacting with your audience is priceless so again well done. Waffle over😂😂
I always thought the property was amazing, but I DIDNT realise just how large it really is:)) Excellent value for $$, so many outbuildings, Yes it will keep you busy for years, but oh so rewarding!!
thank you for the retour. Bird tower, basement, mums back garden? Your basement is a treasure in history for feudal farming.
Another great tour video to refresh the journey so far and the incredible plans for the future
What a brilliant tour of the grounds! I've watched every video right from when you started, but only now do I fully understand the layout of the grounds and buildings - the cuts back to the plan were really helpful! It is such an amazing find: the château alone has such amazing potential, but the grounds and the outbuildings add such potential extra value. V interesting - thank you! 🥰🥰
Amazing tour. So good to see so much detail and map. Xx
Loved the walk around thankyou. it now makes sense.didnt know you had a lake ❤
Another excellent tour (with maps)! Thanks for taking the time to walk us through your plans. Does Rob get a little house, too😊? Noticed that Patrick seems to have lost weight. I have a wire haired doxie and know how hard it is to keep them slim. Well done, all!
Haha. Thanks Ellen. We cut his feed back but now he helps himself to eggs 🤣🤣🤣
@@chateaudelalacelle Heh, I saw that episode. Dachshunds are sneaky and resourceful.
bienvenue en france et merci pour cette restauration.
I love your enthusiasm for your gorgeous home. You remind me of Suffolk in the 1960s where there were still derelict fans and mansions
Wow Ash what a presenter you have become. Loved this vlog especially the map being outlined it gave a real perspective of where things are. I didn't realise you had a lake and a well. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the tour of the grounds awesome to see everything in perspective ❤ love it 💕💕💕
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Wonderful--such a deal. And so glad you are so lovingly restoring it. Now--don't forget about ROB needung as small place to live there as well/ He has so earned it. ♥
What,a,wonderful video to see it all was breath taking
Thank you 🥰
Thanks Ash!❤
Thanks Carla 🥰

I haven't been on this site from the beginning, so I don't know who Paula and Pete are. Could you inform me, please.
I was wondering also.
Absolutely fantastic! 👍🏼😀🇬🇧
Ash, please plant trees along the long drive up to the chateau, do it now while you’re young. It will look beautiful
Beautiful property all the old buildings are magnificent so glad you bought it and restoring it with love it will be beautiful but hasn’t lost its charm with age.
Really enjoyed this. I had no idea you owned so much land and so many buildings!
Thanks for the tour Terry. That was fun. What a beautiful piece of property. I know you have worked very hard but boy oh boy you're having a lot of fun restoring the buildings and property. Catch you on the next one ❤
