- Time for an update on our Classic Mini Mk1 Conversion Classic car restoration series. So as you will have noticed there is an extra Classic Mini in the UPbuild garage. In this episode we take a quick look at this mk2 shell or at least what is left of it, why it has found it’s way into the UPbuild garage and go about braising the shell together so than it . All in this video.

when you see one on the road & thats not often, they are so tiny in comparison to todays vehicles. Love them, i want one again.
Here in the USA, we would classify that shell as " Rougher than a night in jail".

2 ideas for the old shell.
1 - Make the back half of it into a trailer.
2 - Make the back half into a seat so that you can sit using the back seat.
One thing I noticed, when showing the back of your trailer you had a full shot of your number plate. For vehicle security you should either fuzz it out or edit it out as unsavoury people can duplicate and use your reg.
It’s like watching British leyland at full productivity 😂

It's kind of crispy guys. I don't know if it would be economically sound to make something of it. But, if anyone can, it's you two. Carry on, love the channel and all that you do.
Fantastic to see that old thing has made it onto the channel! Happy to be called Dan btw, oddly, most folks now call me Bobby, but that’s a long story!! Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Good to see you both . If you'd had that shell before you did all that work required to make the mk1 windows fit , l guess you could have saved a lot of work. In fact a new floor assembly and you'd be tempted ! See again you soon !

Great to see the father and son team back. Winter looks like it's been long cold and wet. With Summer coming you can get more time out in the shed working on the mini .
Just as well you got that shed extension completed last year. Always so good to see you and your dad in the worksop together.

Wow, when I saw that rotten body being slid onto the trailer I thought you won't have a chance in hell to put that back on the road. Boy was I relieved when I realised it was only a donor!

As Bad Obsession say, Minis are hygroscopic. If they aren't rusty, it's just a matter of time.
guys i had a 850 coathanger gear 850 in panda police colour, not a problem it was a smashing delightful vehicle, it had go-cart like driving and it was a fantastic delight to own.]

That is one of those shells that a lot of time and money could see rust free again. If Guy Martin can rebuild a Spitfire from its rear view mirror I am sure you two could with a lot of new panels put that shell back to factory fresh. Nice to see you both back on a Mini once more.
Been walking past a stunning mk1 Mini that was at our local garage. It has clearly been recently done as it looked brand new. It was Lovely pail blue. First mk 1 Iv'e seen in the flesh and was surprised to see that they didn't have a door or wing mirrors.
Well, yes, but... unless you have a cheap source of NOS panels it will never be right.

Hi thank you 👍. Yeah there are a lot of heritage panels available but for the Cant rails you need to purchase the whole Mini side panels and they’re 2k per side😬. Plus we like the challenge and providing the entertainment 😁👍

As others have said, great to see you back and to watch your brilliant workmanship.
If you only want the cant rails, wouldn’t it have been easier to just cut through the A, B and C pillars and get just the roof and cant rails - I know, you guys are not ones to do things the easy way ;) ;)
As for what to do with the shell, if you were to leave the roof on you could turn it upside down again and, with a bit of your fabrication, make a hot tub out of it ;) ;)

Nice to see you both back again. However I must admit I didn't understand what you wanted the rotten rusty shell for.
Ideas for the old shell chop it in the middle and use the front part as a bbq against the wall lift the bonnet to start cooking🍳
Another idea is to use as a trailer for when the #mk1 is finished
Last idea is to chop it in half stick it on the outside of your shed to make it look like it's smashed through 😁😁🍺🍻

I was thinking why are they moving it upside down, walk around oh I see now! Haha that really is rotten! Interesting to see what you do with it.
Ah you’ve just remembered me I forgot to mention why it was upside down. We collected it in the back of my transit van and the only way it would fit without chopping it up was to put it in upside down haha. I’ll maybe put that in this weekend’s episode if I get time to edit it in.

I was thinking along the lines of making it into a BBQ / Pizza oven - but, it seems like you want to keep it as a complete car....
How about somin wacky, like a massive roof and body chop - so it just looks like a squashed down mini. Then make it spaceframed and mid engined !! (Like a hot rod for kids or bigger kids !!)

How about a mini "monster" truck on a vitara or similar. That ought to be a giggle.
Have you seen House of Boost's Mini burnout car? He basically built that from a beat up shell.
you could fit that shell onto a small 4x4 chassis like an suzuki sj, a daihatsu or a pajero with a fibreglass flip front.
Been a while since your last video, I'm enjoying the rebuild of the mk2 mini. Had a few in the past. Was trying to find one myself but looking at 10k for a rotten shell these days.
Now I'm convinced you are totally mad, but I love what you are doing.

The upper and rearward sectors look reasonable, I can only guess it was left partly submerged.

Make a go-kart (go-cart) out of it with a lawn mower engine...
Only the rear shelf and front parcel shelf are ( from what I can see) are salvageable

It's obviously junk, cut out as many good pieces you can find then sell what you don't need, grab grommets etc. Nice repair job on the roof :)

You can’t do anything with it, there’s no floor, take what you want and scrap it
Too far gone, how about turning it into a bespoke piece of furniture. Seen a desk made from one of these before. Sell it for ££££’s
