Hi This Is Flume. I made a mixtape with some of my favorite artists. It’s 38 minutes of music, with a visualizer created by Jonathan Zawada. We hope you enjoy :)
Anna Gjefle same with decadence NYE set, ive seen flume a bunch of times but nothing could rival that steamy deep feel he brought us. kicking myself for missing snow globe
The first time I listened to this album I had been in New Zealand for two weeks and had to be at the US Embassy in Auckland and ended up having to go by myself. I was 19, walking around this big city all by myself with nobody familiar, no family, no friends, just me and my hunger for Korean food. This album just came out and I popped in headphones and immediately just got this sense of peace, adventure, and just knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I wandered around looking for this Korean restaurant but made sure I had left enough time where I could listen to this fully. I will never forget that walk, that time in my life, or that city. 5 years later and I still listen to this album on a daily basis. Thank you flume for being such a pinnacle part of a very rough time in my life. You’ve truly saved my life with your ability to portray human emotion and what it means to be alive. Honored to be alive at the same time as you.
This is one of those rare pieces of music that legitimately gets better and better every time you listen to it. Like not even kidding or being pretentious. This shit literally sounds better and better every single time you listen to it. There's so much complexity that you can take in more and more things with every new listen. Almost like watching a movie multiple times and noticing things you never noticed the times before. From a production standpoint its fucking unreal like how the fuck does he even make some of these sounds? Much less have them be tonal and sound so good. Like the whole soda can/bottle theme at the end, it sounds like someone blowing into a soda bottle, then someone tapping the lid of a soda bottle rhythmically reallly fast, the synths fade in and out with vocal pads effortlessly... the way he transitions between songs and parts of songs like i dont even have words for how good this is. You almost have to be a producer yourself to even appreciate how fucking absurd this actually is. This is some top notch, next level shit right here
As a producer I can say, It takes years if not at least a decade of production practise to be able to handle these kinds of ideas and have them translate effectively to the listener, its a tough balance between simplicity, complexity, drive, momentum, tension, release, rhythm and proper texture and atmosphere use. all of these things put together you get a specific artist "sound". each one is different. the hard part in production is making it all flow and feel like one entity, entartaining you, pleasing you, making you feel deep stuff. then there is singing, vocals, lyrics etc. Music is a powerful communication tool :) as humans its crazy how much we spend on music worldwide.
I feel like every time flume drops a new album or mixtape it sets a whole new mood to my life and how I see and experience the world . Flume just changed my life again ❤️
Keivan K Flume is the god of electric music, always changing and innovating, never letting anyone catch up and copy his creations. He’s had three different projects all with different aesthetics and sounds, a has been successful at each one. Flume will forever be the greatest artist to live.

I'm glad I have my own sound and I'm glad Flume brings something fresh to the table. This sounds so new. A lot of people are gonna try copy this style...
Legitimately. When I discovered Flume, after he remixed You and Me, I totally changed my music style, which lead to my style of life, and I’m in a totally different spot than I ever thought I would be because of Harley
As trippy as flume’s always been, I really don’t even feel like this is trip fueled. Just pure imagination, matter of fact, total control of it. This tape was inspiring to me and left a lasting impression for sure
Flume is a master of suspense. While the audience anticipates those heavenly chords, the cosmic choir, the hypnotic vocals, the drums choke on our anxiousness, the melody metamorphoses violently, the track itself tries to start over, to return to the moment of imagination before anything sounds, where all is possible. This album (Mixtape) simultaneously sails within the space Flume has molded from the electronic world, and strings his own sound out to ethereal chambers and eerie wormholes I would have thought too experimental to label music. But I’ve found myself drifting and plunging through the currents of this soundscape since it dropped- a soundscape at once so cohesive and dissonant, it mutates the boundaries it constructs for itself. Wow. Thank you, Flume, for this world of strange beauties. What a perfect way to glide into 2019.
this changed everything for me. musically and spiritually it just changed my whole thought process...i had never listened to flume before my homie showed me this. it is incredible. ty
The car has plates from Western Australia, also most (if not all) of the landscapes look like Western Australia. It's the state of birth of the video's director J. Zawada. Interesting place to grow up. Flume is from Syd. Not his car.
I so respect how genuine this whole project is to you as an artist. This is going to spark an incredible wave of music. You should be proud of this dude, amazing stuff ♥️
my interpretation: it’s about Harley’s self discovery and journey up to this point. in the documentary we learned he was under some pressure and expectations to release his second album, and it was called skin because he hadn’t been feeling like he was in his own skin. Hi this is Flume the many voices of Harley, different personalities and emotions over time represent his stages in his career but ultimately they are all one: Flume Ecdysis 0:28 to me this is all the ideas in his head and the perfect contrast of nature vs manmade / organic, childlike vs industrial - what Jonathan Zawada’s art is about. we have pretty, harp-like twinkles contrasted with dirty industrial sounds, mixing and cutting back and forth. it’s his human nature vs his status as a famous and rich guy High Beams 2:25 high energy, riding on a high.. living fast with fame, money, not stopping to look back. here we see him driving fast in an eccentric car. the car is a metaphor for something, perhaps his musical inspiration and creativity. he speeds off into the sunset - he could keep living fast but eventually he’ll burn out.. Jewel 5:35 he gets out of the car. i think the car represents his creation of music. so he gets out onto foot - he has to discover who he is as a person. Jewel may refer to his life itself - life is precious and maybe he wants to make sure he experiences everything there is, and not feel tied down to his music. we see him exploring, discovering, travelling across the lands. Glitch name 8:48 maybe the name is some code with hidden meaning. maybe it’s just meant to mean confusion. This short track feels like a recalibration: he was travelling around the world, having fun and adventuring - this is a moment of recalibration to discovering the self rather than the world - triggered by that world discovery. Dreamtime 9:21 who am I. one man in this vast openness. free but unsure who I am and where I should go. standing on top of the mountain - he has more than he dreamed of. he stops to think about this fame and power and what it means, how it has changed him, wondering how to best proceed. 11:38 is it cold in the water he’s travelled far and wide and ends up in a small pit of mud digging up a body. the body is himself. - he is digging down to his core to figure out who he really is. he has an air of desperation. How to Build a Relationship 16:25 unsure about this. We have a looping road which is the same but different each time. Cop cars, dusty air, dinosaurs, cop cars suspended in the air.. The signs say Relationship ⬆️. My guess is it’s about going around in circles with someone, not really getting anywhere. Maybe a relationship that is more trouble than it’s worth. Servo (gas station) 19:30 This was really interesting, maybe my favourite part of the video. the first time I watched it I thought the car was a metaphor for his body - after driving so far in loops he has to stop and take care for his body. But in this clip I think the car is his mind. He takes a break to refuel, relax, clean the windscreen. The servo closes after he’s done. reminds me of a session of reflection at 2am sitting on the couch in silence while the rest of the world goes to sleep. He takes a small break before driving off again, cantering himself for the next episode... Wormhole 23:38 back to that eccentric car. here the car is his music / musical creation / his mental. High energy quirky beats. then he pours soft drink (soda) into the tank and over the engine. recklessness? living fast in the high life, neglecting his health.. never mind, he has a motorbike. splashing around money. but... Voices 26:00 the car is stuck, broken down. so he gets out again onto foot (2nd time). exploring in nature again. centering back to himself so he can get back on track Mud 27:55 animals, nature. found the solution to get himself out of the rut. Upgrade 29:23 back on the road. he took a lobster from nature. rips its claw off.. back to the neon life. big contrast from the nature of the last episode. back to living fast, expensive, drinking Time 31:10 coolest visuals.. can’t tell if renderings of cell activity or microscope footage of cells filtered to look rendered. again that mix of organic vs manmade. vocals chopped up and mixed with synthesised sounds. along with Zawada’s art which focuses on that natural vs unreal.. very cool. not much in terms of story line but maybe that life is always going on outside of you. things you can’t see (cells) are happening, life is happening everywhere while you focus on your own life. maybe a stretch Vitality 32:30 my idea for this one is: drugs. acid. filtered lens of the world (all visuals have a trippy filter) stopping to appreciate that aforementioned life that usually goes unnoticed. watching a fly. remembering your life and problems are small compared to all life. Daze 34:10 everything up until now culminated. living fast and high with money / adventuring the world / discovering self / appreciating the small things in life/// i don’t know, it’s all a lot (in a daze), i just want to have fun. let loose Amber 36:25 stepping out of the car again (3rd time) more of the journey to discover the self. after the previous 2 he went back to old ways of living- driving fast in the eccentric car. this time he allows himself to be consumed by the honey/amber (nature). spring 38:49 buries himself. i think he’s buying the version of himself affected by fame and money and living to other people’s expectations and standards. the third and final self discovery is the one that really changed him. the buried guy has the amber on his head - he is immortalising that version of himself. (amber preserves dead animals naturally) symbolic drowning of the car. the car was his life with fame and money. ego. he’s getting rid of the worldly possession and running towards the ocean. to be in nature, to be his true self. detached from the ego
Love this, I’m gonna give my take on the last 2 tracks (Amber & Spring) specifically the endings for each, both having Flume disappear. Amber: this shows how the present Flume sought his past-self, the past Flume not knowing where to go and lost (reflected by his production with Skin) but that version of him is tired and destroyed so the present Flume, buries him signifying he’s different. He spurned himself and is like Spring. Spring: It’s ending is quite thoughtful, Flume runs out to the sea, walking in the water, and were loosely following him. As we’re following him, he’s ahead of us and we’re drowning, losing Flume off to the distance (camera work) going up/down in the water demonstrating that feel of stress and lost as Flume is out there, adding that is the music’s clogged sounds going back and forth from uplifting & down-dropping. Revealing to us that we either lost Flume, he lost us, or he’s becoming something we can’t imagine. All in all though, amazing mixtape and glad he’s back.
6:15 - 9:00 I had goose bumps the entire time. This entire mixtape is the best release of the year so far. And some of flumes best work IMO. Edit: I've listened to this thing about 50 times all the way through, it still hasn't gotten old. Fucking masterpiece.

Never give up! If you love music please keep working on it. I've had a rough ass past week but I promise if music wasnt here I wouldn't be here right now. You can do it!
i believe this is one of the best pieces of music ever created. i have probably listened to this mixtape over 100 times at this point and it is consistently better each time. it is great when you’re high but also great when you’re not. words cannot express how insane this shit is. additionally, i just would not want to be in the studio when flume was making this... can’t explain why.

I come back year after year and still nothing gets better than this piece of art Flume somehow produced with his brain and a goddamn keyboard. GOAT all fucking day.
I really can't get over this, it's truly extraordinary. iv'e never seen it where the music was made for the visuals... It's usually the other way round. Also the way that both the music and visuals dance between real and surreal is so well done; it's subtle enough to just touch on uncanny, but is also at times completely mind blowing. Zawada is as much a genius as Flume. You're both just incredible.
Three years ago, I heard this mixtape for the first time. I was 15. It would be a crime to say that this mixtape not only changed how I see music and art in general, but also how I perceive the world around me. It’s that deep to me. I even have an ‘84 300zx of my own now, although I can’t say it’s as cool as “wormhole”😂 Thank you, Harley🙏🙏

This album (Mixtape) simultaneously sails within the space Flume has molded from the electronic world, and strings his own sound out to ethereal chambers and eerie wormholes I would have thought too experimental to label music. This whole Mixtape was created just so Flume could flex his car
I can see why, it's a damn nice 300ZX.
The car has plates from Western Australia, also most (if not all) of the landscapes look like Western Australia. It's the state of birth of the video's director J. Zawada. Interesting place to grow up.
Flume is from Syd. Not his car.
@@roidroid I'm from WA and it looks very familiar with places I've been down south
This dude has a Tesla, so he's not really flexing :d
Hey atleast he has a car not a hot wheel like you have respect for flume

That is quite the change in aesthetic he went for :O liking it tho!

The drop at the end of 'voices' going into 'MUD' has a special place in my heart
This is just phenomenal.
Yeah man
absolutely beautiful thank you flume we missed you
Ohhh felix!!
my interpretation:
it’s about Harley’s self discovery and journey up to this point.
in the documentary we learned he was under some pressure and expectations to release his second album, and it was called skin because he hadn’t been feeling like he was in his own skin.
Hi this is Flume
the many voices of Harley, different personalities and emotions over time represent his stages in his career but ultimately they are all one: Flume
Ecdysis 0:28
to me this is all the ideas in his head and the perfect contrast of nature vs manmade / organic, childlike vs industrial - what Jonathan Zawada’s art is about. we have pretty, harp-like twinkles contrasted with dirty industrial sounds, mixing and cutting back and forth. it’s his human nature vs his status as a famous and rich guy
High Beams 2:25
high energy, riding on a high.. living fast with fame, money, not stopping to look back. here we see him driving fast in an eccentric car. the car is a metaphor for something, perhaps his musical inspiration and creativity. he speeds off into the sunset - he could keep living fast but eventually he’ll burn out..
Jewel 5:35
he gets out of the car. i think the car represents his creation of music. so he gets out onto foot - he has to discover who he is as a person.
Dreamtime 9:21
who am I. one man in this vast openness. free but unsure who I am and where I should go. standing on top of the mountain - he has more than he dreamed of. he stops to think about this fame and power and what it means, how it has changed him, wondering how to best proceed.
11:38 is it cold in the water
he’s travelled far and wide and ends up in a small pit of mud digging up a body. the body is himself. - he is digging down to his core to figure out who he really is. he has an air of desperation.
How to Build a Relationship 16:25
unsure about this.
Servo (gas station) 19:30
This was really interesting, maybe my favourite part of the video. the first time I watched it I thought the car was a metaphor for his body - after driving so far in loops he has to stop and take care for his body.
Wormhole 23:38
back to that eccentric car. here the car is his music / musical creation / his mental. High energy quirky beats. then he pours soft drink (soda) into the tank and over the engine. recklessness? living fast in the high life, neglecting his health.. never mind, he has a motorbike. splashing around money. but...
Voices 26:00
the car is stuck, broken down. so he gets out again onto foot (2nd time). exploring in nature again. centering back to himself so he can get back on track
Mud 27:55
animals, nature. found the solution to get himself out of the rut.
Upgrade 29:23
back on the road. he took a lobster from nature. rips its claw off.. back to the neon life. big contrast from the nature of the last episode. back to living fast, expensive, drinking
Time 31:10
coolest visuals.. can’t tell if renderings of cell activity or microscope footage of cells filtered to look rendered. again that mix of organic vs manmade. vocals chopped up and mixed with synthesised sounds. along with Zawada’s art which focuses on that natural vs unreal.. very cool. not much in terms of story line but maybe that life is always going on outside of you. things you can’t see (cells) are happening, life is happening everywhere while you focus on your own life. maybe a stretch
Vitality 32:30
my idea for this one is: drugs. acid. filtered lens of the world (all visuals have a trippy filter) stopping to appreciate that aforementioned life that usually goes unnoticed. watching a fly. remembering your life and problems are small compared to all life.
Daze 34:10
everything up until now culminated. living fast and high with money / adventuring the world / discovering self / appreciating the small things in life///
i don’t know, it’s all a lot (in a daze), i just want to have fun. let loose
Amber 36:25
stepping out of the car again (3rd time)
more of the journey to discover the self. after the previous 2 he went back to old ways of living- driving fast in the eccentric car. this time he allows himself to be consumed by the honey/amber (nature).
spring 38:49
buries himself. i think he’s buying the version of himself affected by fame and money and living to other people’s expectations and standards. the third and final self discovery is the one that really changed him. the buried guy has the amber on his head - he is immortalising that version of himself. (amber preserves dead animals naturally)
symbolic drowning of the car. the car was his life with fame and money. ego. he’s getting rid of the worldly possession and running towards the ocean. to be in nature, to be his true self. detached from the ego
U need to be at the top comment
I completely disagree with everything you said.
All in all though, amazing mixtape and glad he’s back.
didn’t even mention the pro-ecological sustainability imagery, 6/10
damn you have a lot of time in your hands
6:15 - 9:00 I had goose bumps the entire time. This entire mixtape is the best release of the year so far. And some of flumes best work IMO.

Wow. That was an experience. I will reach my final form when I see God (Harley) perform his new set for the first time this summer at Osheaga.
