how to root oneplus 6t on android 10.3.0
Just so all of you know, if your Pixel phone (includes all Pixels from Verizon), is from Verizon, you cannot root it at all. If it's a refurbished one, the chances of it being rootable are slim, as most refurbished Pixels (1-4a), are not rootable.
Let's keep this comment at the top so that it can get added to the description and people that have mentioned devices don't waste their time.
My 3a was refurbished and this worked. Got lucky!
You can't root any Verizon phone whether it be pixel or samsung, etc
@@kellylewis1765 I didn't mention the other brands, as this video is only about the Pixel series. But thanks though :)
how do I tell if it's from verizon?
@@jeffadams5680
If you have it off and boot it up, it'll say Verizon before u get to the lock screen. If it doesn't say anything about verizon, also make sure u didn't buy it from Verizon.
Another way to check is to enable developer options, and try to enable the oem unlock. If it won't let u, u cannot root it.
Dude were u been? Your like family bro, how is your daughter bro? Hope all is good & please make more videos!!
fastboot: error: boot partition is smaller than boot image
You downloaded the wrong image file, you most likely downloaded an ota update rather than the full image. Your total file download should be a roughly 2gb or more download. If it was 1gb or less you downloaded an ota file. It could even be that your downloading the right file, but you need to flash the factory image stock first to your phone to ensure it has the same boot partition as the patched version. Gl
1:50 I get Checking for updates forever. It NEVER showed me magisk is up to date or not installed
same here
@@jaymay6693 okay. Fixed it by plugging phone in as Fastboot (volume down + powder until no command screen and then held power and quick vol down)and hitting ./fastboot flashing unlock (mac terminal) to unlock the bootloader. once the bootloader was unlocked and the phone factory reset, I reinstalled magisk, But from IT's website, not his link.. Then it worked!
Just some advice, some pixel 3xl users may not click on the video because 3xl isn't in the title and it can't adb sideload so people could assume that it involved sideloading
5 hours messing on other guides and this was THE ONLY ONE that worked for me! Pixel XL. If you get TWRP having problems with locked mount points, try this guide instead.
Just as an FYI, if you have a Pixel 2 XL (will probably work for the non-XL version too) you can still install TWRP recovery and root on Android 10.
Using Pixel 1, i got to the point where you download the boot image link but once it's downloaded it wont "unzip" and looks nothing like whats on your screen at 3:40. it has no folders or anything for me to open. when i try to open it, it takes me to a website to purchase something called WINZIP. please advise
Stuck on checking for updates and not showing install option pixel xl A10
Slick work there Max. Would you believe that I forgot that I relocked the bootloader lol. So I had to start over again lmao, but all good got it done. BIG HELP there Max!
Worked perfect on the Pixel 2 XL. Best part I didn't lose any data.
i have this error:
Sending 'boot_a' (30872 KB) OKAY [ 0.204s]
Writing 'boot_a' FAILED (remote: 'Fastboot command (flash:) is not allowed when locked')
same here
pretty sure that means your bootloader is locked but not to sure thats what i think
Your bootloader is still locked. You use fastboot and run:
fastboot flashing unlock
Then your bootloader will be unlocked and you can reboot back into the bootloader menu and the rest of the guide should work now.
Max's phone's bootloader was already unlocked when he made the video.
Thank you so much for being professional, this is the first time I have ever root an android device ! And secessufelly done !! Thanks again ...
I've never rooted any phone by myself before. After messing my phone up with someone else's guide, (not implying it was their fault at all as it was very in-depth) I was able to get it fixed and rooted. It was extremely easy watching this video (almost too easy which made me question if I was going to mess it up again lol). Thank you man.
your bootloader has to be unlocked before this right?

Magisk keeps saying checking for updates and I'm not able to flash the Boot Image in the Magisk app itself is there a way to fix this?

FOR THOSE HAVING ISSUES WITH DECEMBER 2019 UPDATE FOR PIXEL 2 XL:
I found out how to fix it and get it to boot after december update, boot it into twrp, delete the modules you have by going to /data/adb/modules, then reboot, and flash the magisk_patched.img again, and you should be good to go. Took me 3 days but I finally did it.
this helped me a ton, thanks for taking the time to make this video!

After rooting, will you still be able to get Google's OTA Android updates?
Just did this on my pixel 3a Works perfect
I just overdosed on Android 🤯
Great stuff Max!
I had a massive issue with connecting my Pixel 2 XL to my computer via USB. If anyone else has issues, you can transfer files by using google drive. Upload/download to and from phone/computer to move files around.
Fastboot worked fine though...
If I root my pixel 3 will i still be able to use Google pay and banking apps and Snapchat
Perfectly formatted tutorial. Thanks!
THANKS!!!!! Great tutorial. Worked on my Pixel 3a XL
Thanks for the tutorial, this worked on my Pixel 2! If Magisk has an update, will we need to update using the same method? Or will we be able to update through the Magisk manager like usual?
Woohoo! Thanks for this video! My next thing is Xposed.. is that still a thing? I know CynogenMOD is no longer making roms and I used to use Xposed and had a lot of fun modding my device.
Hey did you just root your existing boot image that you were currently using? Without erasing your account?
Hey! Im planning to root my pixel 3a XL but on a custom ROM (AOSIP). Does that mean I need to patch the boot.img provided in the OP in magisk? Not the one in the official factory image? Thanks!!
Does this work on the latest January update? I'm on the December update would I have to reflash everything and reset my phone and start from scratch to be able to get the January update? Or could I do it without losing Root?
Thank you Max! This won't work on Verizon pixel 3 right?
You would need to unlock bootloader.
You will need a unlocked bootloader
If you can unlock the bootloader yes, there was a firmware version you could but I think Verizon blocked it.
@@BIGMACMCDONALDLEE that's what I thought, bummer, really great video though

hello can you do an update to this please as just installed the December security update and this method no longer works
true, can confirm, for pixel 2 xl December 2019 security patch this doesn't work.

@@zaidansar2186 hello I figured this out a week ago I forgot to update I made a script that disables all of the modules that you have installed so then you can go through and update them when you're back on the phone don't know why I did not think of it before
after i boot the patch .img the phone is stuck on the g with the loading bar at the bottom
anyone know how to get pass this?
How long did you leave your phone alone while it was doing this? I had a similar problem after loading twrp.img and then I had not enabled file transfer to put the twrp installer and magisk on my phone so I had to reboot and it took a good 6-8 mins to get past that screen.
I still however cannot get beyond the step of booting an image. the twrp installer has an error. Luckily this didnt brick my phone and I just gave up. There are so many methods to rooting out there and to me it is just too overwhelming. (sigh)

I'm having trouble booting into TWRP from fastboot after installing Android 10. I just get a "FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot')" resonse. Is my Pixel 3 XL not acknowledging the command? This worked when I installed TWRP with Android Pie? Did something change?
Yeah I had same problem. You will have to wait for androod 10 twrp install method.
@@BIGMACMCDONALDLEE Noted. Thanks for all the help so far. I'm sure you'll be the one helping get it when it does come out. You're channel's rad.
I followed the instructions perfectly and once I did the fastboot reboot phone turns on and does not turn back on. I can get to bootloader again, but no rescue, no recovery, I try load IMG again and even a different one and nothing. stays black.
So after following all these steps, my Pixel 1 now shows the Google logo, swirling animation and then comes up with a "progress" bar underneath the "G" which never goes away.
I followed everything you did and in the end I still have a red circle with a question mark in magisk manager, no root. Any ideas? I'm on a google pixel 3 XL. My phone build number is one older than yours. I also noticed your magisk manager has the number 19.4-...... and mine is 19.3. I followed one of your other videos and had my phone rooted on android 9, but lost root when updating to android 10. I appreciate the videos
@Max Lee my device displays the message "your device software can't be checked for corruption..." then it turns on and off. What I can do?
Tried this on my Pixel 3a XL with Dec 2019 firmware and it did not work. Reinstalled original boot.img and it still does not boot. Should I try other boot.img files? Older or newer?
Glad I stopped by. I had the misunderstanding that the Pixel phone came rooted or was easy to convert to root. I see that all of the steps are still required! At least there isn't a warranty flag being thrown! Like it was my G3 years ago!
Thank you very much. I’m one of your fun. I really like and respect your work.
For a second I was sure a burn victim was going to tell me how to install my phone
This is the most recent comment o could find so sorry if this is random but does it still work?

What if your bootloader is locked and you are about to throw your phone against the wall? definitely my situation. Cannot do any ADB commands to push files. OEM Unlock is greyed out.
you HAVE TO unlock the bootloader first. that is first step.
@@BIGMACMCDONALDLEE Thanks Max I've been trying all weekend to unlock the bootloader. Locked to Sprint. Pixel 3A XL
In light of how much android has adopted customized features from custom rom is rooting relevant any longer? I searched around for custom rooms for my pixel 2 and there is no huge difference. I can't even find a custom camera outside of p1 gcam that is far superior to stock

I have a rather odd problem, in the canary manager app it loops and looks for updates. Any known ways to fix this? I have a Pixel with Android 10 installed, with the same build number as you have.
I downloaded the right Magisk for version 10 on pixel 3 XL and it’s checking for updates
go to setting and disable update settings, siwtch channel update to stable.
Jay Mckay you just told me bro.. I told you my phone was stuck in Fastboot mode
I was sold a "fully unlocked" pixel 4 on a certain "bay" auction site but the OEM unlocking is greyed out and factory reset didn't help it. Is it unlockable?
It could be a Verizon one. Verizon Pixels cannot be rooted
So I followed the direction from the video on my stock pixel 2 xl and it didn't work. I realized I had to enable oem unlocking and then unlock the bootloader. Once I did that, the directions worked; however my phone got wiped and every time I booted my phone an warning message came up saying my phone isn't secure. I already disabled oem unlocking in android 10 and when I went to fast boot and locked the bootloader. Then I rebooted my phone. Android says it couldn't find the OS. I tried to unlock the bootloader but remote flashing is not allowed since oem unlocking was disabled. Now I am pretty much stuck with a bricked phone. I can't figure out how to get the device to see the OS or how to unlock flashing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix my phone?
You can easily reinstall stock firmware using fastboot, here is an old tutorial but works for all pixels: highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-install-android-8-0-oreo-on-pixel-pixel-xl-nexus-6p5x-video-tutorial/
@@BIGMACMCDONALDLEE Thanks so much for the fast reply! I am trying this now with secure boot enabled and device state locked. I can't change them anymore.
@@BIGMACMCDONALDLEE This didn't work. When I run fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-taimen-tmz30h.img I get the following error: FAILED (remote: 'Flashing is not allowed in Lock State')
fastboot: error: Command failed. I had disabled the bootloader in Android 10 then I went to fast boot mode to set fastboot flashing to locked so the warning message about my phone not being secure would go away. I had magisk_patched.img flashed and when I go start the pixel 2 xl with the bootload locked and fastboot flashing locked I now get this error: Can't find valid operating system. This device will not start.
In conclusion (oemlocking = off) + (fastboot flashing = locked) + (magisk_patched.img flashed) = phone no workie. Do you have any other suggestions? :(

Never used Google Pixel before, but Pixel 4 looks awesome & I'm considering buying one.
Btw, do we need custom for rooted Google Pixel? I'm mostly only using magisk modules only.
I've tried this method with Android 10. While it does give you root it will not give you free tethering. At least it did not for me I was not able to edit the build.prop file and add the correct line that enables free tethering. It seems the highest version on the pixel 3 that allows you to add it the build.prop file is Android 9. Please correct me if I'm wrong. On anything higher than 9 when I try to open the build.prop file using the build.prop editor it says that the file is read only.
