Considering how this is a process that requires you to be cautious and careful with everything you're doing, I feel as though it only makes sense to show everyone all of the steps you take. For instance, when you're unlocking the bootloader you don't make any mention of the phone at all or what you're supposed to do...in fact later in the video you just say "okay now plug the phone back in". What? Was it supposed to have been pulled out after the boot? The assumption is yes, but I just feel it's really quite frustrating not to have all of that shown. I know some people will feel "oh it's easy you can't be spoon fed everything"...well that's sort of what a tutorial is supposed to do--break down what might seem to be something complex or hard and make it easily accessible for everyone.
5:09 Cant make it to this step. Phone goes black, gives message that phone can't check if files are corrupt, shows android booting page, goes black. repeat
im on a Pixel...and when i fastboot and flash twrp.img it gets stuck on the teamwin screen everytime...i was on O DP3 i flashed all the way back to stock and i get the same thing...
im stuck on the teamwin (twrp) start screen.. never passes that. Its after i "fastboot boot twrp.img" boot loader is unlock, on usb debugging etc... not sure whats wrong.. I have the lastest files too.
Thats why, the Verizon variant cannot be bootloader unlocked. It used to be with the depixel8 exploit but that was patched a while back. Sorry to break the news :/
I get stuck once i hit reboot and recovery after installing the twrp.zip. It just stays stuck at the screen with the Orange caution sign saying "your device software cant be checked for corruption. Please lock the bootloader". It flashes real quick showing the Google start up screen but then just returns to the previously mentioned page and it keeps looping this. Somebody please help!
Just reflash stock rom and it should work fine either sailfish if you have pixel or marlin if you have pixel xl stock roms are available on developer.android.com
PSA : I got ahold of Verizon tech support and Verizon had no information on hand about OEM unlocking BUT the it guy talked to superiors and such and told me that a patch is currently in the works to make the models universal and in turn reversing the grey out of the OEM unlocking option which would make sense if Verizon does make profit from sales having an inferior model is bad this info may be false but the it guy seemed sincere as he also has a pixel and when I told him about the situation he said he'd probably want it unlocked too (whether he knew what you could do with it idk) tl:dr? patch in works to make models universal ie oem unlock = yes
I'm kinda confused... when I plugged with USB and C Cable and it's pop up on my phone said "Use USB to: Charge this device, Supply power, Transfer files, Transfer Photo (PTP), and Use device as MIDI"... Which should I pick?
What are the benefits of doing this to my Pixel XL? Can you explain why I would want a different ROM or why there are so many..am I right in thinking there are several for the Pixel XL and if so why?
Hey Unlockr, I got the same problem got it as a text document in the adb folder but then get: C:\adb>adb push dePixel8 /data/local/tmp cannot stat 'dePixel8': No such file or directory Not sure what to do here.
Hello, I am hoping you could help me. You have the very latest video for rooting the pixel xl. I bought mine from the google store and its currently on android 7.1.2. I want to root my pixel xl to where I can edit the build prop but I am not sure where to proceed. Its been many years since I last rooted a phone so I don't want to screw this up. I was hoping to find a step by step guide as I get nervous rooting since in the past, I have hard bricked a different phone back years ago. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Just go to developer options enable usb debugging and oem unlock and do what the video says! Do the fast boot commands to unlock the bootloader and then flash the temporarily twrp img. Then flash the permanent zip file from .img recovery and flash the SueprSu root to root. Reboot and profit.
I have seen so many different tutorials on how to root a pixel or pixel XL. On top of that I have read thoroughly to the XDA website on the process of rooting the phone which looks like a huge novel. Of course rooting a phone gives you access to everything in the phone and you can do more with it, but one has to ask yourself is it really worth it? I have seen page after page of people trying to do it with having problems your phone's going into a loop or even bricking the phone. So in the end the person has just bought the phone or is buying the phone through either a contract through Verizon and has just now voided the warranty and now has a useless phone. I'm glad somebody has a lot of money to waste. It seems to me people are never satisfied with what they just have and must go up and beyond that.
guys the sad fact is everyone tries to break every phone but this 7.1.1 has them stumped is what it's going on so far nobody can hack that bootloader on Verizon people have been trying but have not succeeded this update is locked tight
BLummy17 were talking bout the Verizon version it's not somebody that doesn't know what's going on its some people don't have all that cash straight up. Lol if you can unlock the phone would love to hear

You have to unlock the USB debugging mode first.
any way around using the usb to copy the files? dont have an adapter

how does depixel8 work for version 7.1.1 I thought you couldn't unlock the bootloader if you were on that version or newer
+twizzlejr820 I don't have a Verizon one to test so just double check with the developer of depixel to make sure
for some reason the dePixel8 file will not download it redirects me to a weird ass encryption page. is this file still downloadable
please help

so that is about systemless method or the normal one
Once rooted, best way to enable hotspot?

I just rooted my Pixel XL using this tutorial. NJH47F / Android 7.1.2
Does this work with 7.1.2?
