This video is great! Unfortunately I get stuck at that first step of lifting the front cover ring. In my lens, that ring is under the lens. It’s a “Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS II”. Do you know what I need to do to get that top lens off so I can access the cover ring? It seems that the dust particles are in between those two layers of lenses.
I don't remember exactly how to remove the cover ring, you might have to use a lens opening tool to remove it if it is not the plastic ring adhered to the front lens.
Hi! Generally, it is not possible to separate the front lens element, so there is no solution for your problem (apart from replacing it with a clean one).
Thanks for your reply, @@CamerasLensesEtc Days ago I discovered the following video: th-cam.com/video/d5wvTmVIK-E/w-d-xo.html Based on your experience: What is your opinion? Thank you again.
@@C.I...I see that part very rarely. If you can't buy it from ebay, or from the manufacturer, then you can try to buy a complete, faulty lens if it is for sale on ebay, replace the front lens, then sell the donor lens as non-working.
already fry it open before i found your video and i didnt mark the lens placement so auto focus is blurry now what do i do? manual focus is ok but auto focus is not
Hello. Thank you so much for this video. I tried to open the canon lens ef-s 18-55 is stm, to clean the lens on the inside, but I failed. It looks like it's made in one piece and the lens can't be raised .. do you have any advice, are there any lenses that can't be opened .. thanks ..
my front lens is different, is in a housing moving part with other lens, I have remove everything but not the frontal lens that I need to clean, Can you help me?
@@CamerasLensesEtc obviously it did. I have also watched the video in which you replace AF stripe, but i got confused because you reach inside the lens with a screwdriver but you dont show which screws needs to be undone.

I have a fungus there...
Thank you

Test the lens with different settings... twist the front lens element from one end to the other in small increments, and compare the photos.

If that is the case, then most likely you have to disassemble the lens completely starting from the rear.
I have dust inside the front mirror that can't be opened 😢
You figure it out
Common problem... and there is no solution to that.

Is it the STM version? As I remember, you have to disassemble it almost completely to clean it.
Your a life saver
Thank you!
Thats exactly what I was looking for! My 18-55 is horribly dirty inside.
I'm glad my video has helped you.

@@accidental-traveller Can you give me a timecode?
@@CamerasLensesEtc from 5:05 its not very clear which screws you undo. Apart from that its very good video
@@accidental-traveller At 5:05 I hold the front lens element.
