the grinder he's using new is like $1500 the roaster is going to be anywhere for $2k to as much as you can think to spend.$100's of thousands of dollars. I can say that starting roasting is probably something that you just want to get started doing. you can pan roast or use a whirly pop or even buy a Behmor. Really you can roast on anything just takes time to hone your craft. As for bags, you need something with a valve because coffee produces a lot of gasses when its roasted so it needs to go somewhere or your coffee will turn stale quickly. The beans can be anywhere between $20 for 3lbs to $100s per several pounds. The more green beans your buy the more you save in the long run. Going to like a training or something would probably help but most people just start trying to roast on anything they can get the beans to turn brown on. Just practice practice practice. Its a ton of fun and has pretty big profit margins. Hope you find this helpful. Enjoy.

I want to start a business doing the same, I actually wanna go out and sell already made coffee. Don’t know where to start. Can you give me some tips? I’m starting basically from scratch with nothing but an idea and the drive to actually do it.
If by already made coffee you mean brewed coffee you will need a special permit for that through FDA as its "directly consumable." If you're referring to roasted coffee then you will need to find a roaster that is willing to let you sell their coffee or you roast your own and sell. The most practical and effective way to sell starting off is through an e-commerce store such as shopify.

Great info! I’ve been thinking in starting my own coffee roasting business while attending school. I do have some business related questions regarding on how to get started. Do you have an email address I could contact you on?
Jared B thanks for the note! You are correct co2 doesn’t dictate flavor in itself but it is essential to the flavor of the coffee. The compounds that do dictate flavor both volatile and nonvolatile I.e. chlorogenic acids (caffeic acid, quinic acid, etc.) hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, pyrazines, pyrroles, pyridines, furans, furanones, phenols, are all subject to oxidation which will alter the flavor of the coffee. CO2 acts as a stabilizer and keeps these compounds from being oxidized and the flavor of the coffee being altered. Overtime the C02 is released and replaced with oxygen and compounds begin getting oxidized which is why fresh coffee is far superior. That’s what I was alluding to in the video, hope that clears things up!
@@bonde.johnson maybe make another video about QnA so we all can get benefit, i would like to have this kind of a business too but i dno even what questions should i ask. maybe, how to do all that manually, like our forefathers did
Hey Mitchell! Our bags are actually a PET/ALU/LLDPE composition. This is the ideal make-up for storage bags- especially for coffee. Here is a study showing it’s resistant to external factors such as oxygen: www.google.com/amp/s/www.researchgate.net/figure/a-between-packaging-A-PET-PE-ALU-LLDPE-and-packaging-B-OPP-PE-MPET-LLDPE-over-12_fig3_329967477/amp
So you roast the beans , cool . then pack in a paper bag . ?? so in two weeks the flavor has changed , for the worst.? and will continue to do so. so why not nitrogen gas the vav pack
Our bags are polypropylene/aluminum and FDA certified food grade. They have a degassing valve to maintain optimal CO2 and O2 levels! Change in flavor profile in coffee is inevitable as the enzymes that breakdown the bioactive compounds which dictate flavor, are not all oxygen dependent.

@New Times Today Hi, how can someone who is interested to buy African coffee get in contact with you directly to ship to USA ? I am looking for a coffee supplier from South America and Africa
I got a question to ask, was it legal to import & export coffee to countries, did you ever counter of any issue for importing or licensing?
Do you need special permits to roast coffee?
Or can you roast from home?
Does your laptop have an application for controlling the coffee roaster? I know there is at least one roasting application that can control the roaster. Developing your own roast profiles is as much a part of distinguishing your products as your unique coffee blends. Great video overall. Thank you for producing this and your enthusiasm to help others out by answering questions.
did you need a permit to roast coffee at home? if so what permit did you require. Thank you!
Johnny Rodriguez hey Johnny that varies place to place by state, county, subdivision, etc so if I were you I would consult a business lawyer like I did. He/she will be able to answer any question you have about that. I happened to not need a permit! Sorry I can’t give a better answer
@@bonde.johnson thanks!

I currently offer Harar! I have found it to have the most pleasant notes of fruit (more blueberry/cherry) than anything.

I’ve had coffee from white beans before. Lots of caffeine
I thought this was a cool video. Looks like your into your craft. How did you learn to roast and when did you find out what was a good roast?
Hey Jose, I learned how to roast coffee on a Fresh Roast 500 which roast only about 4oz at a time. Taught me how to identify roast by sight and smell. A lot of discovering good blends and roasts is trial and error. Hope that answers your question!
Hi, that’s really interesting video. I live in China and coffee market just starting to grow here and I think I might have some good ideas. If you don’t mind, please let me know how can I contact you so we can talk more about that

Not bad video the flavor in coffee has nothing to do with co2 though

@@bonde.johnson maybe make another video about QnA so we all can get benefit, i would like to have this kind of a business too but i dno even what questions should i ask.
maybe, how to do all that manually, like our forefathers did
Sucks that it seems like you are using plastic bags to put roasted coffee in. Not very sustainable
You have really beautiful eyes :)
