  • The Traveler made it’s last stand here, on Earth. It created the Ghosts and the Guardians to defend from the onslaught of the Witness and it’s Disciples. The Traveler has been to many other worlds though, uplifting species and leaving ruin in it’s wake. Today we discuss every location the Traveler has visited and the impact it’s had on various alien species.

So basically, if you look at the bigger picture, the traveler gave eveyone a chance to prosper, and to eventually defend themselves against the black fleet, by making them sufficiently advanced so that they could be capable of interplanetary travel, but none managed to get to the point of fighting back hard enough to actually resist and realize that even without the traveler, they were still a proficient species, so instead of aiding them it abandoned them. It may also be why it hasn't abandoned us, because we've realized that we're much more than what the traveler can give us, even since before the collapse we were prospering far beyond whatever it could've gave us and becoming effectively self sufficient. It probably saw the opportunity to actually raise a species of creatures to perfection, with just it's little paracausal push. Just like how a gardener abandons the branches of a plant whcih are going to die when it sees that there's no hope for them, and eventually cuts them out of the garden, meanwhile when a plant seems to prosper even in the faces of destruction it keeps nurturing it so that it may live and prosper.
Idk i am literally just speculating and let thoughts run wild

Could be, it seems even with the Travelers help, these species stayed kind of barbaric. It seems like the Traveler showed up to species which were much less technilogically advanced than we were. The Krill had spaceship type things but I think they were more suited for travel to moons of fundament. Rhulk's species was very much a nomadic species probably hunter-gatherer type when the Traveler showed up. Looks like the Precursor species was the same way.

    Interesting perspective thanks.
I recall the Drifter saying something similar but I can’t find the exact quote. It was about the time where we had to choose between the Vanguard or the Drifter. I chose the Drifter and he said something like. “You call the Fallen and Cabal etc monsters for what they have done….. How many have you killed?
Now tell me, who is the real monster?”
I was like , oh shit you have a point…. Which is why my emblems generally have my final blow counter on them, just to remind me that I am a monster also.
Drifter’s quote actually altered how I now look at the world.

    A few words of wisdom...
"The path one takes to avoid their destiny is often the road that leads them to meet it."
"Those who fight monsters must take care not to become monsters themselves."
"Fly not too close to the sun, lest your wings melt like those of Icarus. But fly not too close to the surface, lest you be claimed by the surf."
It is not the Traveler that is the enemy. The Witness and The Black Fleet are. It is not the Traveler's actions that fell the civilizations, but the actions of The Witness, the Black Fleet, and those that they have subjugated.

I think it makes the most sense that the traveler is powered by death. From a Gardener point of view death makes the best fertilizer. The traveler grows beautiful things but there has to be a season of death and no growth or the soil produces nothing. Also look at Ghost which to us is unpassed souls to the afterlife. Everything about the traveler points to death

Something occurs to me. Mithrax and Eramis were alive during their Golden Age and saw their Collapse.
How long did humanity have its Golden Age? Because the timelines dont add up to me. The Traveler terraformed Mars after terraforming most of the Sol system, dissapearing for around a year or half a year if we consider that the Traveler stopped terraforming Io because the Darkness arrived. This would imply the Collapse happened less than a decade after our Golden Age began.
Please correct me if I am wrong because I am about to go down a rabbit hole.
This would imply that we made all these advances; SIVA, the Warminds, colonies throughout the system, and beyond...in as little as ten years. But that cant be right. Also, Eramis was alive during the Eliksni Golden Age, which implies she is over 500 years old, as is Mithrax, who was born shortly after the Whirlwind.
Is this a discrepancy in Bungie's writing, or am I missing crucial information because, and I quote "Welcome to the last safe city on Earth...it took centuries to build."
"Centuries after our Golden age began..."
"A few centuries of entropy working against me."
If we take Ghost's literal word, we are 300 years post-collapse, at least. We had at least 2 centuries of Golden Age, according to the Speaker. But why would the Traveler stop doing what it does for centuries when in that time it could have completely terraformed the entire sol system dozens of times over, yet its job was incomplete by the time the Darkness arrived.
Either it ran out of time, which would imply less than a decade, or it sat around doing basically nothing but being a giant glorified disco ball for centuries. Which, yes, is possible, but why? And if it ran out of time, the Golden Age could not have been centuries as stated by the lore.
Now, its entirely possible that Eliknsi have ridiculously long natural lifespans even before the Traveler arrived and with an incredibly fast maturation speed, and it only tripled after its arrival, making it more ridiculously long. (It occurs to me also that we don't see elderly Eliksni, or at least stated elderly Eliksni) but without clear numbers as to how old Eliksni can get, there are a few questions.
What is the timeframe between the Whirwing on Riis to the arrival in Sol? If it goes at its apparent sub-light speeds then it's entirely possible that the Whirlwind happened thousands of years before arriving in Sol.
How long was the actual Golden Age? It could not possibly be less than a decade, but something clearly must have stopped the Traveler in its steps as to just stop terraforming arbitrarily. The whole point is that it only sticks around long enough to basically give the species it uplifts a booster pack before leaving, so by rights it should have left a decade after appearing.
What kept the Traveler for centuries? What stopped it? Why did it apparently run out of time? Why did it stay for us?

    • @lordbrain8867

The story says the Traveller increased human life expectancy by 3x. Considering this happen in the like 2020 or so(?) , human life expectancy went up to probably 225+ years. It's possible the Eliksni already had double our life expectancy or they were granted even more than we were. Also is that 500 years Earth years? Could it be Riis orbit years? , not too sure on that one.

    • @billmaster1157
      @billmaster1157 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@lordbrain8867 I know its said to be centuries, I'm just pointing out the fact that, even if the Traveler just teleported straight from Riis to the Sol system, which is not unlikely as it is clearly shown doing, most Fallen would spend a significant part of their lives, even if centuries in length, just catching up to it. Even then, at least 3 centuries more failing to take it back once they found it on Earth.
But if it did not just teleport and went at sub-light speeds to reach earth, or even using paracausal Light BS that laughs at the concept of speeds limited to light speed, that would still mean the Whirlwind for the Eliksni was centuries before reaching Earth, at a minimum. So they spend nearly a thousand years trying to take it back before the present timeline of Destiny

Maybe it's the case that the more The Traveler terraformed, the more concentrated light was accumulating in the Sol system. Maybe the more light there is, The Darkness could pinpoint The Traveler more precisely.

There was actually a bit of lore in this video I didn't know until today. The whole bit about the Traveler 'blinking away' after terraforming the planets. That closes a gap in my mind that has been bugging me for a while. To me, that shows that the Traveler didn't abandon those other races, and it also didn't mean that they were unworthy, it showed that the Traveler was forced to leave before it could complete it's intentions with those races.
It's even possible that the Traveler, in an attempt to increase it's productivity, created it's Leviathan as an aid, to help it work faster. But the Witness manipulated the Hive into killing it. And so, The traveler found the Eliksni and tried again, and still was unsuccessful. So when it came to our system, it tried to give itself more time with us by 'blinking' out of they system, before the Witness could locate it. Allowing it to give us as much of a change to develop and prepare, perhaps giving us multiple planets to confuse the Witness as to our home planet, or more places to stage a resistance.
And it's entirely possible that that plan was working, and that something else is what caught the Witnesses attention and caused the collapse. What if it was the appearance of the Vex? and Clovis' use of Clarity, connecting to the darkness and getting the attention of the Witness?
And because the Traveler was able to progress more in our system, it decided it was ready to resist the Witness here? Not so much hat humanity was the best species, but the Traveler had more time to prepare us for this conflict, and has no other plan to improve it's chances in another system?

The Witness race had the traveler for eons and honestly had they not tried to merge it with the Veil, i honestly don’t think it would’ve left them cause what reason did it have. Of course we don’t know was the witness race the first, where the traveler or veil came from, etc. But from the look of it, if it didn’t leave them for eons, it wasn’t going anywhere until they made it leave. One thing that hasn’t been answered is how/where did the witness race find the Veil and if any race had it before they found it.

Man, all of these hot takes in the comments section.
Personally, i see the Traveler in a similar way the Eliksni do, its a machine, it goes to worlds to breathe life into what would be dead or nearly dead planets, its a paracausal machine that gives body to the worlds it follows, while the Veil did its own thing.
But like any other machine, it doesnt think about what it does, it jas no feeling for the life forms of which were affected by its visit, it goves life, rests and then leaves to repeat the process with the only thing making ot leave is a significant threat to its directive, its the whole reason it flees from the Witness.
Saying the Traveler os the bad guy makes no sense in terms of its actions and pinning the blame on it for the actions of its fanatics, it's a machine, not a god.

Did the Travelers presenses always spell doom for the worlds it visited, not true for the Witness' world they didn't die they merged to become stronger - just because the Traveler moved across the cosmos advancing life doesn't make it responsible for the destruction that followed. We must be the best we are capable of regardless of the choices others make, and we are not accountable for the choices of others.

I dont know if enemy is the right word, but just think about this,. What if after we save the Traveller and all is good, we are no longer needed in our current role, so it takes our immortality away from us, like Ghost has to rejoin it or something. I mean immortality kind of goes along with the final shape in that if we are immortal, we are at least our own final shape. , weird to think about.

Ruin has indeed followed the Traveler's wake, but that ruin was NEVER of the Traveler's making. The Traveler might provide the means to progress, to prosper, etc BUT it is up to the recipients of the Traveler's 'gifts' to use them for good or ill. The Witness's people sought direction and purpose from their 'God' but never it seems asked themselves what said direction and purpose should serve. Nor did they seek to discover purpose for themselves, still seeking a final shape that their 'God' SHOULD be the fulcrum to achieving.
The fault, if any lies not with the Traveler, but with those it seeks to raise.

      @suruxstrawde8322 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeahhh, I feel like it's actually completely incapable of fighting most things due to only having creative/life giving powers. Ghaul being an especially odd case, probably that his form was unstable in that moment and all it took was a lil jolt of paracausality to shatter him.
But it also definitely seems clairvoyant somehow, its actions always come very early before its plans come to fruition. Thousands of years at most, mere seconds at least, where it seems to have a planet distance awareness of things (at least).
Then again, it can create things to fight for it, and with all this inexplicable awareness it should be able to get around the handicap of not having any direct means of attack by just creating weapons. Idk why it thinks raising a patron race is the best option but I guess it's technically working.

In short: A God can bring us together as much as it can divide and destroy us. Once you rely on it's love and power, you've sealed your fate when it leaves.
Just like Christians devote prayer daily in hopes it will change the world's horrible ways, and the death and illness... It falls on deaf ears. God has already left. What it leaves behind is a broken people who only know two ways; to still worship and pray one day it will return to save us, or those that give into the darkness that's left before us. There is no victor. These fates lead always to death.
The witness was the first to find a way to end it. He's not evil. He's not good. He's the ultimate neutral. No more life, no more death. A god should never decide when to bring life, and when to abandon it in darkness. That is the cosmic horror we all face....
What if God left us behind..
What if our traveler blessed new races while we slowly cracked and crippled without it's glory?
What if our prayers fall into empty space... Forgotten with time?
