    I work at a Chevron. One of these rolled up to my store about a year back and I spoke to the older gentleman who owned it. We spoke for about 20 minutes before he decided to tell me he is the co-founded of the company Fisker alongside this dude right here.
    Pretty cool moment for me.

      @@427motorsportllc3 To make matters worse, Tesla filled a lawsuit against them 4 years before they released the Karma. They also had a warehouse disaster from Hurricane Sandy, which costed them millions out of pocket. So they had a very rocky start, and ended as a disaster unfortunately. The car itself was a neat idea, but not many people had $100k to blow on a new Fisker. I feel like if the car was at least $40k cheaper, they would’ve sold a lot more. As at the time, a new Model S was $60k. Therefore, the Model S was more appealing to consumers. Though in my opinion, the Fisker was Tesla’s answer to range anxiety. I always dubbed this car “an exotic Chevy Volt”, because it really is 😂

And at the time 10/24/21 it looked like a car that you could buy today. By that I mean nothing about it, inside or out would leave you to believe that this car was from 2012. Just a gorgeous looking low sitting car with beautiful curves. It's a shame that they didn't last but one year and not get to see how far this car could have evolved.

    This car is really beautiful design wise, the front end immediately reminded me of an Aston Martin just to find out this guy designed some of those! I think the solar panels atop these electric cars should be a must, ever since i think it was the prius had them i thought it was genius- not because it contributes meaningful energy to run the car itself but because it can be used to cool the cabin on a crazy hot day when the car is sitting in a parking lot just absorbing heat energy and not doing anything with it. Really even gas powered cars should have this feature, and at least lightly tinted windows as these have a huge effect on cabin temp as well.

      Idk about you but I dont drive 265 miles (426 km) in a day.
      40% of people could drive the fully loaded Tesla without changing their daily habits or routines. That will only go up from here. That is about 60% the range of a small hatch back and more than a Dodge Viper (which the Model S P85+ can beat in a 1/4 mile drag).
      And if you use the regen braking properly, you can go much further than 265. 265 is the EPA rating. And if you factor in Tesla setting up all of the battery swap stations, then an even larger number of people will be able to use it daily.
      It costs a lot but it is great value for what you get. Its supposed to be electric luxury, not a cheap hatchback. That is coming in 2017 (The Model C)

Also Tesla went all-in on 100% electric instead of going semi-electric and of course the Model S build in high-tech gadgets didn't hurt the success of the car either!

Those with the money, keep this sculpture in motion. I would rejoice to have these angel wings for myself. But I'm incapable of such lofty beauty. But some of you are not! Don't let this masterpiece of automotive design slip through your fingers. If Enzo were still alive, he would declare this as the sedan version of the E-type.

    This video is - I believe - a bit behind the events of the day. Fisker went out of business about three years ago. They are trying to get some government subsidies and relaunch.
    Also this is not new technology at all. In the Second World War Dr. Ferdinand Porsche created what he called an 'electric transmission'. There were two or more gasoline engines which powered four electric motors. There was no mechanical connection between the gas engines and the tracks. He had used this - the first hybrid - on his prototype for the Tiger tank. But it was rejected for the conventional Henschel design. This technique was also used on the giant tank destroyer the 'elefant'.

    • @Agorante
      @Agorante 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mercer Byrd In the old days when we all read newspapers if you saw an article on the front page about some event you assumed that it had happened the day before - and it usually did. But today if you look up something of the Web you have to be careful. It may have taken place yesterday and it may have taken place a year ago. You need to check.
      This video looks like it is a current event piece. It looks like the Fisker is a new vehicle that has just come out. But that's not the situation at all. Events have moved forward. Fisker was a new car with some new technology a couple years ago. In the meantime however the Fisker has gone bankrupt - or at least I think it has. It may have gotten some new government subsidy and is being sold again.
      So what is the story here? Is the Fisker a new hope for the environment? Or is the Fisker another foolish dead end like Solyndra?

    The drive train on this Fisker car makes a lot of sense on several levels. This eliminates the transmission & differential. The engine is a modest turbocharged unit that's small & efficient. The motors always run, but are generally very efficient in a mo-gen mode as well as in their transmission of power from the IC engine. It's a flexible system. The drawback is battery weight, a factor that will plague e-cars until battery technology takes a big leap.

    Heavier than an F-150, larger turning radius than a Silverado, less leg room than an A4, slower than a GTI, less EV range than a Volt, less extended range than a Volt. This car is such a dull thud on the history of the automobile. The Tesla is far superior in every measurable detail. There was nothing on the road I couldn't easily outrun, but It runs out of electric quickly and the gas engine kicks on (thank God), runs a little rougher, a little slower but I'm not stuck. Bo McGillacutty Yeah you're right the Karma is not comparable to the Model S at all. The model S is the boring sensible daily driver you drive to work all week. This is the car you keep for the weekends to drive for fun and to be seen in.

    • @Mrbfgray
      @Mrbfgray 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      neilcoo "Be seen in"? I guess but it sounds a lot more boring to drive then the Tesla and the Model S is one of the best looking cars out there in my opinion, but I obviously like clean, smooth and sensible.

    • @neilcoo
      @neilcoo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bo McGillacutty Personally I think sensible is way overrated.

    • @Mrbfgray
      @Mrbfgray 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      neilcoo OK. But I love the "insane" acceleration potential of the higher performance S, not necessarily "sensible" but it's MY kind of 'nonsense'. Performance is everything and form follows function. I'm a little surprised that they haven't done away with side view mirrors in favor of nearly flush small cameras.

    • @neilcoo
      @neilcoo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bo McGillacutty I agree the P85D insane acceleration version is great but outright speed alone doesn't necessarily equate to a fun/good driving experience (ever been in an old MG at 50mph?), plus you're looking at a car that is over $120k. For most of us that's not a daily commuter car to be used up and thrown away, its a luxury toy for the weekends. And for that kinda money you could be buying something much more special, unique and fun such as a classic or used supercar.

    • @SanctuaryLife
      @SanctuaryLife 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes I agree, as good as the model S is, it could have been a tad better in a Fisker design. there is still room for this to happen as Tesla's next sports luxury car in my opinion. Who know's it might, though I suspect Fisker has some serious humble pie to eat before this can happen.

    • @SanctuaryLife
      @SanctuaryLife 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Update to this: Fisker was bought by a Chinese company, and now this will definitely not be happening. However it doesn't matter, I am actually finding the Model S grow on me more every time I see it. It's a bit like an average looking guy walking down the street, no body cares, but the minute the girls find out he's rock star, or worth billions, all of a sudden he is incredibly good looking, well knowing what's under the hood of a Tesla makes it incredibly attractive also. The almost graceful minimalist approach with large clean powerful lines and a luxury sized stance only adds to it's commanding presence.

    • @inquizative44
      @inquizative44 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    FACT: On the Chevy Volt energy is stored onboard in a 16.5-kWh, T-shaped lithium-ion battery. The battery powers the electric drive unit, which is capable of meeting full vehicle speed and acceleration performance while driving the car electrically for an initial range without using a drop of gas. When Volt's electric range has been used up, a gas engine works with the electric motors to keep you going.
