I like that Branford will agree and he will not agree, he isn't concerned about just agreeing. And he can have an intellectual conversation and speak as if he already knew what he was going to say, and it is informed. He even knew about Birth of a nation.

I wish the Bob Costas show was still going because its amazing just how intellectual these conversations are. You don't get interview shows like that anymore.

For such a young guy in 1990, Branford Marsalis sure has a sutble and perceptive view of the world. I got to check and see what he's written about other than music.

Talked to Branford the other night after a show. His candor has always amused me.

If you're a musician who studies music as a history and a performer...this is as good as it gets...

Branford is great and this is an excellent interview. I disagree about all of the music of the 50's being light and fluffy. "Memphis" by Chuck Berry tackles some pretty serious subject matter for the time. The erosion of the family as an institution is about as serious as it gets.

Branford is awesome - his over-sized suit doesn't help the fact that he looks like a 14-year-old though!
