I've had guitar students begin at 50 ... 60 ... 70 years old and older. Many have gone on to do amazing things! ; ) No ... they're not Michael Jackson... but guess what ... that wasn't their goal. One wanted to accompany at her place of worship (did it), one wanted to perform at small clubs and wineries (did it), one wanted to play guitar for his grandkids while they sat around a fire pit and made s'mores! (Done!). I would add ... distance yourself from negative people--- naysayers who say 'you can't do that'! (Like one of the commenters in this thread). Negativity is poison that just might rob you of what could have been. You'll know who they are pretty quickly-- they hide behind comments like, "Oh ... I'm NOT negative ... I'm a realist!" These are often people sitting on the sidelines secretly wishing they played guitar (or other goal). One final story. When I started working in a mar Yes ... you can start any age.
according to wikipedia, Grandma Moses started painting "in earnest'' at age 78. she lived past 100, and hung out w/ JFK (who's personal regard for her is undeniable, if you read his eulogy for her).

RIP Quincy. Man, many people don't know he was a trumpet player. He's also the conductor on the Frank Sinatra with the Count Basie Orchestra Live at the Sands.....man, he was one of the all time greats. I didn't know he studied with Nadia Boulanger but I had teachers who studeid with her. WOW.

Motivation is nice and helpful! But it can fade and quickly! However, wisdom will last you a lifetime and will be with you throughout generations. No one can take it away from you! And Quincy Jones has it plentifully!
One of the things that had the biggest impact was about studying hard, learning styles and give your all. You can't be different if you don't know what has been done. Lots of people and friends of mine think that if they don't listen to anyone else music they will be different. I beg to differ!!! Also, the confidence in giving yourself makes a difference. Even though you imitate someones style, doesn't mean you will sound exactly like them. The bigger take away is knowing what is and has been done!!!! learning it and infusing yourself into it!!!

My favorite rule was #1 as well!! That's the greatest love of all and you can't give what you dont have. So give that love to yourself first and then it can be amoung others.#BTA#17
