This is a bad idea 😢 my husband has been a great operator for 30 years and passed all his recerts by PAPER and failed 2 times with this new online system just a shame !!!! Change is not always a good thing!!!! Pass this along

Hi, second the fact that you should not do online proctored test. I could not read the range diagram I could only increase the font I could not grab and enlarge the area with my touchscreen. So I didn’t crease to say 125% then I’d have to try to grab the screen and move it left or right then I couldn’t see my tip height or my radius because it was only half of the screen showing and I there was no way to fullscreen it. Totally sucks.

So, I took and passed my, core, swing, lattice, fixed all at home. Not a recertification. First time I have taken the written test. So what saved me is that you are allowed a 8.5" by 11" white board. Other than that. Read and more or less memorize the footnotes before you test. Also what helped me. For example, for swing. I memorized the page numbers for the dedutions and lift diagram. So I wouldn't scroll and did not read the top of the page. I would watch the bottom right corner and look for the page number. On all the specialties I would write the information of the crane configuration abbreviated on top of the white board. So I would scroll back and forth much less. I finished the core in thirty-minutes. All the specialties in less than thirty also.

I tried the demo yesterday and the load chart questions were such a pain in the ass. I ended up running out of time because of scrolling back and forth on the load test questions. Granted, it didn’t help that I had a three year old screaming to get in my room while trying to test. I originally did the written test with about 20 people and I was the first to finish on each test and my worst score was 88 (LBT for some reason) but everything else was 98-100. I’m worried I’m going to score poorly or potentially fail because of how they have the load chart questions configured. I tried the computer testing about 10 years ago and they would give you a booklet of the load charts, it seems like that’s not an option anymore. I test in 6 days and I’m dreading it now because of that damn demo test.

I agree 100% I was thinking about that but scrolling around looking for my information and slow computer speed I ran out of time

How did you do? This new method is so stupid and it wastes time. People will fail not because of knowledge but because of this new format.

Don't do the opt testing. Totally glitches, my white board went away and I couldn't get it back. There was no calculator either. I was unable to get ahold of the proctor to fix the issues while my time is running out. they had the call button disabled. There is not enough time to do the load chart questions, you spend way too much time scrolling from page to page. Try the demo, the test is worse. The proctor kept moving my cursor around and flashing my FACE on the screen. The proctors are in India and you are giving them remote access to your computer. What the hell. NCCCO is going for a money grab. If you fail you pay to retest. I missed 3 load chart questions because I didn't have anything to write on anymore. Totally guys.

Second all waste of too much time on split screen you cannot make full screen to see range diagram

Good morning, you will need both the core then whichever specialties you’re currently certified under.

The load chart section is so poorly done. It’s like working off a 1995 computer and just navigating through the pages eats up all your time and you can’t even clearly see the range diagram.

Anytime u computerize some processes you make it more difficult without a paper copy in front of you to reference fast. You have to constantly click back on the computer consuming time. This is so idiotic even a kindergarten knows this.

Stupid idea!!! Makes me not want to take my cco. Everyone says scrolling to look up the charts makes you run out of time. The fact that the test is timed like this is also ridiculous!! There should be an option to paper test or computer test. I have quite a bit of computer experience and still is a bad idea but what else can you expect this nccco crap is all for $$$$ and nothing else. Drs don't even have to retest after they take their boards.
But crane operators have to rest fully after 5 years?!! It's all about the money!! Here we are with a shortage of crane operators and this nccco pencil pushers out to make it so hard you can't pass the test and are out of pocket time off from work and test money!! What a joke!

    • @AprilChis

I agree 100%. As a nurse we take boards ONCE! I believe CCO should do a more of a practical recert or required you to prove you have worked a # of hours not a exam recert. Just seems backwards to me.
