    1. Attempt question without any help
    2. If you got it right compare with solution given
    3. If you got it wrong the repeat with solution
    4. Come bake in a few days and repeat the question
    5. If you got it right then well and good but if wrong the repeat the process

I've been taking notes my entire highschool life and I just now realised how ineffective it was (yes, i was in denial about it.) and my brother kept on telling me all i needed to do is to just answer the practice questions because they were the most effective ones, and I just kept ignoring it until I realised how effective it was (i tried it)

    • @jet.james.61
      @jet.james.61  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Oh wow that is annoying, derivations is kind of difficult. Usually with derivations I find the best way to study them is by actively relating them to other equations. So if you have a main equation you tend to remember the other parts that come along with the derivation

    This is the most realistic video I’ve ever seen, I used to see many videos where most of them are majoring in medical majors, and I’m on the other side an actuary😅
    One thing I would appreciate your feedback in, the part where you suggested to scarifies the notes, I admit I spend long periods writing and re-reading my notes without practicing test questions, mainly because I’m afraid to do so, another reason is that I’m not sure when it’s necessary to write a note and when it’s not, can you help me identify that?
    Thank you in advance!

    • @jet.james.61
      @jet.james.61  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well usually when a teacher over explains certain parts its a pretty big indicator that it might be a major piece of content.
      And when they just read over its most likely not something you need to know. The best way to figure out what parts of your notes have been important and what parts that have been unimportant is by doing practice questions and seeing what parts of your notes relate to the questions the most.

    I am preparing for my ACCA p level exams, and weirdly enough, this is the note taking technique that I applied this session and this is more effective than it sounds! I didn’t study the texts that much, I practiced, let myself feel dumb and note the parts that were tough and revise repeatedly. And about breaks I agree too, I take longer breaks like 30-40mins in 4-5hrs, that too with a plan or agenda or else I'd be just wandering everywhere instead of studying. I am more focused once I'm more settled in what I'm doing.

    I'm a 3rd year Chemical Engineering student, I gasped when I saw you solving for a mass transfer subject. I'm currently taking Heat and Mass Transfer this semester and I find the subject quite challenging. I really love your take about the note taking thing. Most of my study time is consumed by making pretty notes that I'm not able to practice solving the entire topic coverage.

    • @jet.james.61

      Omgg same I'm also a 3rd Year. But yeah, note taking is something I don't spend too much time on anymore... Unfortunately Semester 1 of my 1st year was the only time I could spend taking notes, other than that it's almost impossible to be up to date with the knowledge if you want to take pretty notes :(

    Thank you so much for the advice.
    Also I’ve to memorize 6 months worth of work in a month. Had health issues for all so couldn’t do side by side. Idk. I feel like I could do it. Cause I’m a gifted memorizer (at least what I think as I memorized 14 chapters a day till year 10th. But now it’s year 12 and I’m nervous).BUT then the pessimistic me comes in front of me and drives me insane and I end up in my bed just worrying.
    VENT AHEAD
    Also. I noticed that the whole year my friends used to talk to me. Tho I try my hardest to listen to the teacher but they wouldn’t stfu. And worst part they did/ do all those things again in coachings. And as I don’t take any I suffer. Nowadays they say “oh I/we just slept all day and did not prepare the test and I was having fever so after hearing that I was like: oh I should not worry as we are in this together, but during the test they end up doing questions and then say oh I just read a bit in break, (like bitch you were talking to me and didn’t let me study.). Sadly I fall in the trap every time. So called best friends.
    Saddest part: I was the class topper. (99%in year10). And then I switched schools. Now they are doing better than me. ( my “BEST friend “ got 77% in 10th) and I feel like , either she pulled me down to her level or she’s trying to climb up my shoulders. Also if I try to change my seat(I did twice). She literally told everyone she got depressed and her twin sis begged me for not changing my seat.
    I’m stuck. Also I moved out so cherry on top. 😭

      I'm so sorry to hear all of that :(
      Unfortunately if you're academically gifted, or gifted in any other aspect, with a high school mindset a lot of peers around you are going to try to drag you down, or act jealous, or talk crap behind your back.
      I will get a bit more personal in the future of my channel but for now I can say that high school friends, you'll find are not worth spending your time with. After all of this is over, and you guys go off to university/college, you'll eventually forget about each other. Of course you can find really great people through high school, but personally I found there was always some sort of competition or pettiness involved if you're at the top.
      But in university the story is the complete opposite, people are happy to pass. And if you get a great grade, you'll find that a lot will congratulate you, and it'll just be a more overall positive experience!
      I look forward to seeing you in future videos! You seem like an amazing person! :)

    This video really put me back in my place😭 im legit the kind of person that would rather spend her time in learning about Newton's life growing up his family and parents rather than the actual equations ffs. I'm ALSO not a STEMS student the last time i studied physics was in 10th grade and that's exactly what i did: spend time making meaningless beautifully written notes and not enough practical practice. If you want to be at the top of the class you will have to go that extra mile with your studies. This doesn't mean you need to study more, you just need to find an effective and efficient way to study. Disciplining yourself is definitely very important! If you want to retain information be sure to constantly apply it into questions, even if you don't have to try to answer these questions: Why am I answering this? How does it relate to my other content? And what is the importance of the value/answer?
