@@bob-id3wi yeah I've seen it at the Sydney Motor show a few years back. But it was 1 off not a production model..... That's what I was getting at? I don't know shit really though..... I'm one of those pesky rotary enthusiasts 😆
Using the ute as a base with the rear wheels 100mm further back really makes the look. That shorter rear overhang looks fantastic. Really subtle and well done, but makes so much difference. Undoubtedly it helps with stability too, not that the VE platform ever really had a problem with that, but you can always make something better and this certainly is.
It would of been to easy for Holden or hsv to do this if he can pull it off just shows what numb nuts we had working at Holden at the time great job mate 💙🇦🇺
@@gerardcrabb4556 I know right what pea brains did we have in charge so many things would of sold its like the ranger raptor with a 3.0 diesel up until now they got the V6 twin Turbo petrol which makes way more sense and must be an awesome rig as that motor is in their 150 raptor which is so much heavier and still goes hard in their 150 anyway that's off topic car manufacturers need to listen to the people more that's all it comes down too
@@carswithscottyThe distortion from the wide angle lens makes it a bit difficult to really see the proportions properly too. Maybe next time try with a minimum of about 60mm or more if you can. Great looking car but, thanks for sharing 👍
Holden had roughly about 14 body styles planned for the VE but they only ended up building 5 of them (5th gen Camaro was one). If only GM had let them do what they wanted.
As a Ford guy, it must grate you to see such an excellent Commodore. There is a great AU Falcon 2 door conversation out there. I'm pretty sure I saw it on a Facebook car forum somewhere. I'm sure if you search hard enough, you'll find it
Surely there is a low volume business opportunity here, this is as good as any other resto mods out there, go all in and do a LHD version for the US perhaps 🤷🏼 bloody well done 👍
I wish they wouldnt use so much wide angle, so that the proportions would show better. This is an amazing build although not quite as sleek as the coupe60- where the roof was lower as per the Monaro's of yore.
The glass factor I remember when the ash tray was a little window near the side mirror. Not shore if the problem with the glass is more the front or the back. Like the idea that a ute is a station wagon, the sedan can be a couple so if a little here a little there you could get 4 models from one platform chassis. Hey those LS engines can run on hydrogen look up the ute in America it's a cherry red.
The con the American GM & Ford were doing here in Australia was developing so called “sedans” but really they were the size of a 2 door coupe like in the United States, they just added rear doors for Australian market. The real sedans here were the Statesmans & Fairlanes based on the so called “wagon” chassis & plenty of room in the rear. Many back passengers over the decades would have had a better chance of survival if they were rear passengers in Statesmans & Fairlanes.
Wow, this is a real love project. Nice job. For the money spent could get a 911 GT3, and most go up in value over time. My neighbor bought a 911 993 turbo 20 years ago for $120,000 AUD. It's now worth $600k.
Holden did make a ve coupe when they did Camaro for the states I personally have the photos of the first moke up car sadly they new they where shutting up shop by then and canned it
Pretty cool.. Reminds me of a BMW 1M.. Maybe the colour, ( Valencia Orange ) but the rear styling has similarities for me.. Pumped out rears, the shorter wheel base look and the bigger wheels.
@@gerardcrabb4556 Correct but this guy made his own. And he can drive it around. The concept car never went into production. Brendan said hold my beer. He made his own.
Don't those 1-tonne ute's have horrible leaf-spring rear suspension and live axles? Is that retained? If so, I really wouldn't want to drive it with that much (or any) power. Good looking though.

Perfect build, looks OEM. Most people would walk past it, and think it's a Monaro.
but we never had one in that shape. they'd think it's a clubsport and not notice the 2 missing doors
They would thinks it’s a replica built Monaro coupe 60 that’s been customised

Great build with a great colour.
This is what Holden should have done 😢 Awesome build. I'd buy 1 😊❤ great job, Scotty👊 Cheers🍻🍻🍻 KC 🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺🍻🍻🍻🦘🦘🦘🏔🏔
Holden had a concept Torana which looked very similar to this but already with the wider wheelbase if you google it you should find a picture
@randomstuff797 yes herd about that appreciate it 👏 🙌 🙏 👌 👍

Agree
For those saying Holden should've built this (and I agree), Holden did a concept car which is at the birdwood museum and it was a VE coupé.
A good looking machine that VE concept. I reckon would have sold in really good numbers
Just like they did on the monaro, 2dr coupe for the commodore. Now i see the 2004 monaro it looks pretty nice and can tell it is expensive

Would love to see some photos of the build start to present day. Looks bloody awesome 👌 👏 👍
Imagine if Holden was still in Australia with designers and fabricators working on new ideas ... breaks my heart as this is a BEAUTIFUL piece of kit!
Great work. Looks really clean. Lots get way overdone, but this is perfect. Love the colour as well. Cheers Rob
Bloody beautiful. You can see how much Brendan appreciates the VE.
Great build and result... I love it... living here in Australia I would assume this build would have cost this bloke more than Japan's national debt.

Looks a bit like the concept Torana that popped up few years ago ?
Awesome build Brendon, congrats mate, luv it 👌

Is that Honda cr-x beside it @ 7:05 still getting around? I remember that as a cover car of hot 4s many decades ago

Holden had made something like this - it was to be exported as a long-door, long wheelbase El Camino. But then the GFC hit and that was that.
I just feel that the rear side windows need to be smaller with possibly a higher hip. Otherwise awesome job.
