Peter signed the dash of my VH back in 1997 at a car show. When he sat in my car he said it brought back memories. I asked him if he wished he had continued with the dealer team. He said he really wanted to. I didn't mention the box of rocks. Was a shame.

Miss you MR Peter Brock.. I purchased my VC HDT in 1987 from a couple in Melbourne that couldn’t afford to run it and I before I trucked it to NSW you signed the glove box and engine bay.
Since your passing the car has only seen daylight a few times and with only 38,000 on the clock this vehicle looks showroom condition I know one day it will help fund my retirement.

By the time the Director was released, the IRS setup was the issue more so than the Polariser (ADR compliance being what it is), so it was somewhat ironic that once Brock released the car and scuppered his relationship with Holden's, all the Directors he sold (and there weren't many) all had live rear axles.

Lachie Reynen very true , the group A in the VK was the last one made to race spec sporting the 307 Chevy in a 4 speed , the only difference between that production car and the one Peter raced was the production VK group A had 5 seats and no roll cage and no sponsor colours , other then that everything was the same as he raced it on the track. ayrproductions lol oh really why don’t you go back and check again , that’s if you even checked at all ? The 4.9Lt 307 Chev engine was used in the 1985 VK Group A SS , I’m not a fan of Holden nor someone that thinks he knows everything about them like most do but I know that car because I’ve Driven it many times and I know the man that owns Number 243/500 build and it’s under 32,000 ks on the cloak , nothings been modified or changed as he is the original owner also just so you know you couldn’t just buy that particular car back then from your dealer you needed to be someone that Holden would offer the car to first . so pls tell me more about the 304 lol 😂

    • @ayrproductions
      @ayrproductions 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@oldfaithfuliii5997 No, the 4.9 was the Holden 304 which was used up until 1999 (2000 in VS series III), not the 307 Chev. It's a pretty common mistake to be made though. The 304 was the reduced capacity version of the 308 for Group A so the cars could run at a lower weight. You need to check facts yourself and clearly your "mate who owns a VK Group A SS" has no idea what's under his own bonnet.

The Polarizer was only a smoke screen to hide what was really happening.
GMH wanted full control of HDT Special Vehicles. They finally saw the market potential that Brock & Harvey had created with the enhanced performance vehicles. The split was ugly for that reason. Brock saw the potential to Export his Performance vehicles That was territory GMH hadn't yet conquered, they were exporting engine's but not complete cars yet. So for a small operation to be successful in exporting it's performance vehicles & the parent company not having yet explored that avenue you can see why GMH wanted full control of HDT Special Vehicles.

So your one of those guys who thinks a man's failures can be blamed on the women he's with? A strong man knows bs when he sees it and doesn't indulge it. Face it, PB had an ego and whomever put the pseudo science shit in front of him just gave him the excuse he was looking for to do what he really wanted to do. Once he made that choice he was too blinded by his Peter perfect image to see he was screwing up.
As a man I get real fucking tired of men blaming there shortcomings on their women. I've had great girlfriends and a few crazy ones too. I knew to not indulge the crazy ones craziness and if that meant they left (which they did) than better alone than in bad company. At the end of the day, if strong men really exist we are responsible for what we do. Only the weak blame their failures on someone else.

Your on the money, and with HSV + GMH coming to contractual terms very quickly and smoothly seamlessly in essence continuing on as if it were a relatively minor bump bringing enhanced models to the public compliant to all bodies. The left field media regarding Peter Brock being vegetarian, crystals, pyramids, meditation whirlwind they continued on with night after night focusing on implying he had fallen out of the crazy tree branch by branch. This turning on Brock a national hero so quickly and unbalanced with a GMH HSV bias makes you wonder. I was a major Ford fan back then loving the Hardtops and remember it clearly thinking the enemy Brock had been hard done by at Holden with the distinct feeling there had been some head office corporate and engineering departments executives that had turned the knife in Brock having had their individual noses out of joint from Brock's direct nature or jealousy for his public recognition when they were running the race teams collaborating designing & building race cars when Peter was the major highly succesful poster boy for Holden 🤔.

Peter had a vision which would have made Holden right up there in the world stage, the VL Director was well before it's time and was built to compete against the likes of BMW. From memory it had independent rear end which wasn't bought into Aussie cars for years later and that's another insight into what he was trying to do. Personally I don't believe the energy polariser is what was his undoing, I think there were tensions between both parties for sometime and Holden used the polariser as an excuse to try to stop him. Who knows what would have happened if Holden actually embraced his vision but it was very sad to see the two end up how they did back then, perhaps it was a sign of Holdens arrogance that would grow even bigger in the distant future which eventually became their undoing. 2 great Aussie Icons are now gone.

The VL Director had components which hadn't been ADR approved (most notably the optional IRS) which is why Holden cut him off. If there had been any claims made against them over something Brock had put on the cars, Holden would've been the ones sued and it would've destroyed them. They gave him plenty of opportunity to provide a car for them to test but he ignored them.

@@ayrproductions The relationship had been going sour for some time before the director and this car or what was on it is not the reason Holden cut him off. He knew where the relationship was going so he ignored their directions. His plan for HDT was to build a quality road car up there to compete with the likes of BMW but Holden didn't share that vision and were happy to build the typical average family car. That IRS may not have been ADR approved but if HDT had gone forward with the production of the director then everything on those cars would have been approved before going into full time production including the IRS. The IRS came in a few years later so no doubt it would have been made ADR approved in time but as I said it showed he was a forward thinker and well before his time.

@@knight2425 the release of the VL Director was the final straw in the whole thing. The Polarizer was what initially set it off, though. HDT did go ahead with production on the car, just in much smaller numbers than what Brock would've liked, and IRS was an option on them (not many were actually sold with IRS, though). There were items on those cars that did not see any ADR testing as Brock thought that since the IRS was similar to what Opel was using on the Senator in Europe at the time that it didn't need to be. Holden gave Brock ample opportunity to send them a Director for them to test and he completely ignored them. So it was released without adhering to the appropriate ADRs it required to. This is something that has been documented in Bill Tuckey's book "The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock" which goes into great detail about it and had John Harvey as a contributor. I suggest you read it in order to realise what was actually going on within HDT at the time.
The IRS which Holden added to VPs as an option wasn't the same as what Brock put in the Director and was extensively tested over a number of years, until they got it right.

It might have done well in Europe against the BMW with a modified RB30 but with the carby fed boat anchor would have flopped both is sales and on the track

Peter Brock started believing the media. He was like my father - he thought that all women were fair game. Adultery will get you in the end. Be not deceived, God is not mocked for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. He paid with his life. This is what sin does. Sin will snuff out your life. The Lord Jesus the Christ died for us so that we can go to haven if we REPENT.

There is not such thing as a non sinner 'for all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God'. We are all sinners. The difference is that those who realise that they are sinners and believe in the Lord Jesus the Christ, they repent (Change their ways) and are forgiven. From there onward the will of God is the most important thing in a persons life. We all make mistakes. A real 'Holy Spirit filled' Christian is protected from the enemy. There are the times of testing and many Christians have been martyred for not renouncing the name of the Lord Jesus the Christ of Nazareth.
