A scene from Julius Caesar, played in New York, with Greg Hicks as Caesar and Noma Dumezweni as Calphurnia. Find out more about this production: www.rsc.org.uk...
Helped my son read through act 2 scene 1 last night for his 9th grade English class. I'm even more ready to read through scene 2 now tonight. Hail Caesar!
Dude: To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
I am currently portraying Decius, and I would like to point out this excerpt is taken from Act 1, Scene 5 of "Julius Caesar" and not Act 2, Scene 2. The actors in the video seemingly utilized the meter as if they were speaking in prose; however, Shakespeare intended, especially Decius, during this scene to speak in Verse because of his ranking. Other than that, interesting rendition.
What are you talking about? The meter came through very clearly. Also, yes, this is Act 2 Scene 2, unless you are using a non-standard version of Shakespeare, I suppose. But as far as the popular printings of the text go, this is, in fact, Act 2 Scene 2.
Is that Peter Capaldi at 0:19 and 1:54? The first time I watched, I thought so. The second time, I said no it isn't. There third time, I thought it was for sure. After a few more viewings, I am not sure.
I may seem like a fool for asking this-- could anyone tell me what are the names of these actors? I understand that they work with the RSC, but I couldn't find their names.
she missed a line. After "horses did nigh and dying men did groan" she forgot " And ghosts did shriek and squeal about the streets." and then it is "O Ceasar!"
This is beyond awful. Caesar sounds like a whiny small time yuppie trying to prove himself in some corporate setting. As for Calpurnia, why the monotonal + lacklustre delivery. It's like she doesn't give a shit whether Caesar runs into danger or not. Never impressed with the RSC. They always try to make Shakespeare words sound like everyday speech. It never works. It is a higher discourse and should be treated and performed as such.
Ugh this is limp acting. They have no sense of the play or the language. Caesar is worst, he is not bringing anything new at all. The woman is at least trying it seems but she is miscast ( not due to her colour).

She is amazing.
Very good quality of acting has been projected 👌
Love her voice.
How interesting everyone interprets the signs in the way that works for them.
That's because they were very superstitious although sometimes it was manipulated by the political elite, seeing signs before battles etc
Greg Hicks is amazing
This actress is everywhere!
The good Peter Saccio introduced me to Shakespeare. I cant get enough I'm obsessed.
Great help for my students. Thanks a lot.

Did squeak and gibber in the Roman streets.”

This plate of the bible series
I just realized that the guy is Greg Hicks from the movie “Son of God”. He played Pontius Pilate the main Roman in the movie.
Caesar is Greg Hicks and Calpurnia is Noma Dumezweni.
This is GOOD ..
My favourite lines
Caesar was absolutely not so arrogant
He was like a coconut, hard from outside and soft from inside
Dear RSC
if you release Greg Hicks portrayal of Coriolanus, & Macbeth. I would buy it.

Definitely Act 2 scene 2, 1489, what text are you on? There are only 3 scenes in Act1 !!

Thank you so much! What beautiful speaking voices they have!
This is exactly why American acting is "dying."

the mark Anthony was good however
Completely ridiculous casting. Insulting.
It's stage play. Suspension of disbelief is higher and no one really cares as long as the actor is good.

not able to understand the English. rubbish play
