- Joanna Horton (Celia), Pippa Nixon (Rosalind) and Alex Waldmann (Orlando) in Act 3, Scene 2 of Shakespeare's As You Like It, directed by Maria Aberg.
This production played int eh Royal Shakespeare Theatre in 2013. See more about this production: www.rsc.org.uk...
I keep coming back to this, every year. It’s so well done. I think the RSC have a full recording of the play reserved for educational purposes. It would be amazing if they released it to the public.
I love the chemistry between the two and they really understand the language and it doesn’t feel unapproachable
I love this and wish I could see the whole thing! She is all sparkly with love and humour, and he is so smitten. So naturally spoken that it has no whit of archaism int.
i am a seventeen year old girl in high school, and this is genuinely the best thing i have ever seen
Performances like these make me ignore the fact that I can barely understand what they're saying. The pure hypnoticism of this scene is far more entertaining and enjoyable; their chemistry, their hushed tone, and the way they let the scene "breathe" adds so much to their performance. Absolutely wonderful.
It's as though Im hearing this play for the first time again - INCREDIBLE acting, particularly the Rosalind. I have a recording of Vanessa Redgrave as Rosalind who is untouchable - but this lady comes a respectable second as the greatest Rosalind ive ever seen/heard.
dear, could you send me the recording please?
Their chemistry was great! Beautifully acted.
Yes. They were together in King John too - but I couldn't quite buy the Bastard as a woman however skilled Pippa Nixon was.
Wow, I have to say, this is one of the bast boy disguises I've seen for Rosalind...
No it's not
One of the most believable ”Ganymedes” I have seen! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow. This is great. Usually I prefer Shakespeare in its original 16th century setting, but this one just works fantastically.
saw this in Stratford, everyone was fantastic and makes me want to tread those boards even more. the music was incredible too. If you get the chance go and watch this.
When I saw this show back in May I got to meet Pippa and Alex. They were the sweetest people ever! Fabulous actors as well :)
I so appreciate the availability of this scene!!! I so wish I could see this production!!! I hope they will film it and release it on an internationally available medium, so we who live so far away can still partake :)!!!
I'd do literally anything to own this production on DVD
Wow, what a great looking and relevant production, and such excellent acting with naturally delivered lines.
This is the best thing i've ever seen
I've never watched a video so much, this never gets old. Amazing acting, they really know their characters well!
This is an interesting version of the scene because it looks like Orlando figures it out that Ganymede is Rosalind and decides to play along after all.
Pippa Nixon is a genius.
Fair youth, I would I could make thee believe I love...
Thank you for uploading this.... And thank you to the actors and stage director and Master William and everybody involved in this performance! Impressive!!!!!
One of my favourite scenes from AYLI , thank you. I love this production.
Went to see this on Wednesday. It is stupendously well done in every way :) but these two still stand out even so. Glorious!
PLEASE release this production. I would pay for it. Please come on
I second it badly!!! ❤❤❤❤
OMG that was amazing. Perfect acting. Drew me right in. I'm looking for something to watch and I didn't think this would be it but now, oh boy 😃 I'm going to have to watch more than one play for sure!
2015 ..and still absolutely PERFECT ..simply amazing
Man...is this actress bloody BRILLIANT! I dissemble, I'm a Yank. She put me in the mood!
Just noticed the spit take by Celia when Rosalind tells Orlando about “carving Rosalind in their barks” 😂
Wow this is amazing!! Acting is ON POINT!
Pippa Nixon is amazing, but Alex Waldmann though omg this smile those eyes kill me now
Gorgeous...brilliantly...ACTED!!
Watched it tonight, complete genius!
dayum girl this is good!
I watched that the other day and I freaking loved it, made me think differently of Shakespeare, I actually like him now, but that guy (Orlando) is fit!
i love both of them. saaa good.
Is there a full video of one of the performances anywhere? I'm dying to see it.
I think they only record certain scenes as advertisement, you can order their movies on their site though
This is sooo brulliant
wow!!! This is the best rendition O saw so far!!! Loved it, where can I watch the entire drama?
Brilliant!!!! Brilliant!! Where can I purchase this?
Keep this on here please!
So good...
brilliant acting.
This is lovely, and well-acted. But is anyone else distracted by the continuity error of her suspenders??
What do you mean?
Priscilla Purple 0:40 She's wearing suspenders, 0:47 she's not wearing suspenders, 1:03, yes suspenders, 1:12, no suspenders... :)
Rebecca Janvrin Wow damn...i always notices those kind of things, guess this time i didn't heheh! well because of you we can agree that it is well edited Cx
+Rebecca Janvrin I'm sure the continuity man is out of a job after this one😂😂
Oh my god, you're right. I believe there's a scene in Braveheart where the two armies are charging each other. At first they're carrying their swords, then they're not.
so well acted never seen shakespeare no i see the now you see it now you dont bracers lol still amazing fancy that i love shakespeare lol.
This scene is so real, I wish to see this production so badly! Can I find it recorded somewhere?
The androgyny of Shakespeare's greatness
Saw Hamlet last week. Wouldn't it be nice if Stratford is closer to NY so I can see this too
Superb!
Wonderful - is this version available anywhere (streaming / dvd?)
I tried to find it last year but couldn’t 🤷🏼♂️
You could check The Royal Shakespeare Company’s official website to see if they have it now.
It’d be a crying shame if they still hadn’t made it purchasable.
is there a DVD of this production anywhere????
For real...that shit got my ass high!
this is scene 3 you fools! know thy stuff!
It depends on the edition you use! generally the standard edition we use is the RSC Shakespeare and there are differences on what falls in which scene.
@ thanks for the response! I hope my comment has not come off as rude, it was not definitely not meant that way. Interesting, I did not know that. We‘re currently reading the version from the Cambridge School Shakespeare series.
very very good
Super!
Is this version of the play still available for renting/buying anywhere?
I don't believe this version was filmed, I'm afraid
@@theRSC ok thanks for taking the time to answer!
Where can I find the full movie?????
perfect
Where can i watch this ffs i am dying tell me
7 years ago
I can’t find anywhere to buy this. Does anyone know?
Some one please tell me where i can the script to this scene i googled it and its showing a different scene
This is actually act 3 scene 3, not 2.
anyone tell me the answers for my drama hw?
Good.
I agree. I like the subtle inquisitiveness to Rosalind, but I always thought Orlando was much more earnest, much more assertive and much more passionate. This one is quite self-destructive and cares little. Just seems quite impassionate compared to a lot of the text suggests.
Ooh the guy who plays Orlando's not that bad looking :P
bothered by continuity error? not till it was pointed out, Was too busy liking the acting, puzzled by the tempo - then realized that it worked well if the shared cigarette was not tobacco.
It's beautiful -- beautifully directed, beautifully acted, beautifully costumed and staged. However, I do have some thoughts: You can't toke on a joint five or six times as if it's a cigarette. Three is a lot before you pass it back. Celia be bogarting the bone, I thee tell. Four hits -- and none of them. Everyone is in a hurry to inhale, exhale. If they are going to smoke, let Celia speak high-pitched with the smoke down in her lungs, strangling her. That would be cute. Otherwise, just put the cigarette away. It's distracting.
A beard neglected... he kinda does have that rosalind
Why Rosalind looks like Tobey Mcguire
She looks like Tintin!
