- Inflation rose more than expected for the third straight month. Gas, rent and grocery prices are the major categories keeping inflation stubbornly high. Jo Ling Kent reports.

Prices are too high. With rates not subsidised in ’24 and mortgage still high , currently seeking alternatives to maximize savings without an RV move or taking a loan. I’m seriously contemplating the latter.
It will, if anything, worsen. Affordable homes won't be available for much longer. Therefore, I will advise everybody who wants to do anything to do it right now because tomorrow's prices will look lower than they did today. I believe that frenzy brought on by rogue inflation will continue until the Fed tightens its controls much further. It is impossible to tear off the bandage halfway.
Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; get your money (as much as you can) out of the housing market and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult. Home prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes.If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.

Well, I chose Vivian Carol Gioia as my advisor after her interview on CNBC In 2020. She is SEC regulated with offices in the US and quite frankly a genius with portfolio diversification.
I just looked her up on the web and I would say she really has an impressive background in investing. I will write her an email shortly.

I only pay $125 a month for top of the line $500 deductible insurance. My rent has increased $25 in two years.
I assist with people's budgets. You wouldn't believe what people spend their money on while complaining about inflation. $300 cable, $100 in streaming services, $200 going out to eat and that's only because they can't put it on their maxed out credit cards anymore.

I have a paid for mortgage so rents don't affect me but I do have homeowners and car insurance on a 2020 vehicle my rate increased 56 cents in January I prefer to pay my house in car insurance once a month so paying $114.83 State Farm

My rent has increased by 30% in 2 years. We have to move each year? Inhumane af. Do you even understand the costs to move?? I’m being robbed by landlords. Literally. And soon the costs to move will be too high and I’ll wind up on the street with the rest of the unhoused in the US. When rents increase by 15% every year, that’s where all of your savings go. We are TRAPPED. 2 adults in a 1 bed 1 bath that’s already overpriced but the best we could afford before rental units went up by $200/month every year…
At this rate renters will always be stuck overpaying and stay impoverished. We want to own our own properties!! But have no options to escape the lords.

The money sent isn’t just spent on US defense contractors, it goes to pay Ukraines military’s wages, food, humanitarian and a bunch of other really expensive stuff that is not just weapons related.

I was laid off in February (2024). Business had been really slow for over a year. Gas prices are going up yet again and food prices have not been coming down and won't be. I am now on unemployment and FoodShare, but I am 65 years old. Who is going to hire an I.T. person with just over 40 years experience for I.T.? I am certainly willing to take a job in another industry, but when they see my background I either don't have enough experience in a certain area or over qualified. I am thinking I will take early retirement and just get the heck out of the working world. I've cut back on a lot of things and I will continue to cut back. Thankfully I am single. Never married and no children. That air-head in the White House HAS to go!

Um. They don't include gas and food in the inflation number. Perhaps you could have an economist write these kinds of articles.
It is dependent on which index you look at. Core CPI or consumer CPI. I believe the former doesn't include those and the latter one does.
In 2020 my weekly budget for food and household items for 2 people was $50-75. Now it's about $150. Every week I went to the store I was shocked at how prices were jumping, sometimes an item doubling in price. The only thing I noticed going back down was walmart french bread.
Worse than I have ever exsperienced in my 67 years.
And even worse; it give's the mercantile's OWNERS,, thee perfect excuse too add there own excessive GREED into the Cost's.
I'm 70 years old I can still shop for two people 50 to $60 a week and that's buying steaks chicken and beef.

I remember when i worked at a grocery in early 2000s, those gravy packets were 89 cents and a store brand was 79 cents. Now we’re here 20 years today. We are in a different era in time today after the pandemic. I don’t see prices leveling off anytime soon.

GDP was supposed to be 2.3 but came in at 1.6 - GDP growth is slowing. This is called Stagflation - low growth with high inflation. Google it and enjoy Biden's great works.

I've been working at a grocery store for almost 10 years (this June), and I have never seen prices so bad since ive started. And yes Baby Food and Baby Formula is absolutely insanity. A 12 pack of pop is almost $6.99 $8.99 (Depending on brand and the company).
I see name brand 12-pack of soda 4.99 but I don't drink soda

They have it backward--the prices don't CAUSE inflation to go up--INFLATION CAUSE prices to go up. "Prices are leveling off--at record high levels..."

Inflation starts when the federal reserve expands the monetary base ("prints" money) and the federal government spends in the deficit. Rising prices are a consequence.
