I know 'bota is very popular, and that's not without cause. They are quite capable, low issue engines. Have to wonder how much is marketing. However, my personal experience (a couple hundred hours) with a 'bota-powered (43 hp) skid steer was that it was gutless. As long as you kept the rpms at max (screaming), it did alright. But as soon as you lost maybe 200 rpm, it would bog all the way down and stall out. Had to pretty much treat it gingerly to get things done. Also ran a deutz-powered unit for a few hundred hours, in the same class. It did not have power issues.
