i really hope you can juggle 2 balls you have some kind of disorder if you can't do that 3 balls okay, you need some coordination for that, but 2? go to the doctor haha
Hold my beer as I juggle grades, student loans, a bad job, a failing relationship, and the ever-present reminder that ultimately everything I ever do is meaningless and will one day be forgotten.
I spent about 12 years dedicated to learning to juggle 9 beanbags. Qualified it a few times but never reliably. Flashed 10. Then Barron comes along and does 11, and flashes 14! Glad I didn't spend any more time on that! But, really, congrats on the triumph! I'm happy for our species.
One thing I wanna mention, for the basic cascade pattern, like someone would do for a world record or what most people think of as regular juggling, odd and even numbers are different. Odd numbers, the balls switch hand with each throw. Even numbers, you are just doing one handed juggling with both hands. Yes, you can cross balls between hands, but the basic pattern that would be used to set the record that wouldn't happen. Juggling even and odd numbered balls are fundamentally different, I almost wouldn't be surprised to see 16 happen before 15.
yeah you’re definitely not an experienced juggler. 15 would still be insanely easier than 16 theoretically. also 12 ball world record was accomplished with the balls crossing “wimpy” pattern
Nova Astral Nexus he started speaking in a way that wasn’t typical for his accent, drawing out the ‘a’ in example in a more american way. probably a product of hanging out with an american for a bit
once he said the thing about going to an odd number being harder, i was wondering if maybe 16 would actually be easier to flash than 15 because of the throwing in pairs thing??
Since nobody wants to answer, I can tell you that it would probably be easier to skip 15 and go straight to 16. However, it is ridiculously tough to catch synchronous balls (I know because I can juggle 6). So, though throwing 16 balls would be easier, catching 15 balls is substantially easier. At the end of the day, it will probably be 16 balls first thought because it is easier to have a fluke catch than a fluke throw haha
Alex was able to juggle 13 balls way before he did 14. I dont see how someone who can juggle up to 6 balls could possibly think that 16 will be easier in any way shape or form than 15, you are misinforming the original commenter of this thread lol
Also if synch throws are so "easy" why did Alex first do 14 balls asynch instead of throwing them in pairs? In most cases asynch is easier than synch. Synch is more of an exercise that makes the balls easier to track when you're first calibrating how you need to throw the balls. But when you're actually going for the records asynch saves you way more energy.
Bottom line: 16 will NOT be done before 15, anyone who thinks otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. You have to juggle 8 balls with each hand, with both hands at the same time to do 16! 8 balls is already considered a high number with TWO hands let alone ONE. If you think that 16 will be easier than a 15 just because you can throw then in pairs you must not known much about juggling.
Juggling means that you do the same number of catches per ball as you have hands, so each ball makes a full run. So for two handed juggling, it's twice the number of balls as hands - 10 catches for 5 balls, 12 catches for 6 balls, etc. Flashing just means that each ball goes up once and comes down once, so 5 catches for 5 balls, 6 catches for 6 balls, etc.
the dude is having a full conversation while straight up juggling.. and then even alternating the patterns... all while not even looking at the balls??
Yo, pro tip. Keeping your elbows lower will help you a lot. You're even reaching up to juggle 3 which give you less time to catch them. (7 ball juggler)
I saw Zak McAllister at Austin at a juggling convention in 2013 and again in 2015 and in those two years he improved an enormous amount, kid has big talent and dedication to the craft for sure.
After watching this I bunched up a few paper towels, practiced vigorously for 15 minutes. Now I'm sweaty, out of breath, and I think I pulled something in my leg. I need to exercise more.. In any event, I can now sort of juggle two balls, and I can sometimes flash three. I guess I can consider this day productive now.
Wouldn't strapping the accelerometer to the wrist, as opposed to the back of the hand, cause significantly lower readings on speed? The hand is further down the lever and I'm pretty sure the relation isn't even linear. Also, factoring in the weight of the accelerometer versus the ball weight would affect results. I know that part is more for fun than for studying but it seems like an important oversight
I was like, “Wait, that’s one of my circus instructors!” And then I saw it wasn’t. He beat the world record for juggling suspended upside down. He got, like, 21 minutes, as opposed to the actually recognized time, like, 12 minutes.
Maniac50AE yes they focus on the zenith, not on their sides. But that's the point of peripheral vision, they still see the other balls falling in order to have that 'feel' of where they land as you said. And a way to have a better feel of this would be to have a better peripheral vision.
Maniac50AE yes I might be wrong, but still he says "even though you're not looking at one ball in particular your subconscious is still taking in where they all are in the sky and where they're coming down" at 4:18 I don't know about you, but for me that's peripheral vision. But I might be wrong, and I'm no juggler so I don't know after all.
It's a sub conscious vision. I can only juggle three, (I've never even attempted a higher number) but i just look at the arcs of the balls, and you kind of just know where they are going to fall. You don't watch the balls as you catch them. You can't move your eyes fast enough to watch every ball make it's full rotation. So you watch somewhere towards the top, then as one falls, you position your hand to where that ball will be. Then once your hand is ready for that catch, you watch for the next ball to fall, and you position your second hand while the first ball just falls into your first hand without having to think about it. With three balls, you could just use peripheral vision because it's not too many to juggle, but when you have 14 like this guy, peripheral vision isn't going to cut it. You kind of just have to know where to put your hands, then have faith that you know what you're doing. You'd be surprised at how well you can catch a ball without looking if you see where the ball is before it leaves your field of view.
The peripheral vision is the lesser part of juggling but if you are at this level at any sport then every aspect of your technique should be perfect and pushed to it's limit
This the best show anyone can watch on youtube! It's amazing how Robbie gets into attempting and practices to do everything and it reflects in his writing and way of documenting, I find this really fascinating
Nevermind. In my rush to make a funny comment I completely missed the fact that he said "or higher" right after "eye level" 🤦🏻♂️ leaving it though cuz it's still funny 😂
What if you had a machine that threw the balls into the air consecutively at a time spacing of your command? My point is, then you would not have to start with all 15 in your hands, you'd need only 1 in any hand at any time.
The hand speed assessment for 23-25 balls is inaccurate, because there was no weight in his hands, which would have slowed his speed with decreasing affect with each ball that leaves his hands.
Just commented on how to find the practical limit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Used model measuring mistake: You should at least hold a ball in each hand before trying to define maximum speed/frequency. Model major mistake: The initial downward movement speed should be defined by the falling ball. The modeling should analyse two separate moments: the catching a falling ball; and the throwing of the ball, instead of accelerating it down and then upwards. Derivation of a better model could be done by motion analysis (maybe slow motion techniques can make it easier) of catching and immediatly throwing a single ball, and an estimation of the the time needed between each ball throw. Hope I can help any further studies in the field with this insights.
Have to agree with this, the engineer seems to have based it purely on hand speed which wouldn’t be accurate at all since there are a lot more factors involved including initial weight of the balls and the weight of each ball when it’s thrown. If it was based on anything else, he certainly didn’t indicate that.
If you practice only your handspeed everyday, you will have more handspeed than alex barron. But this does not mean that you can juggle 3 balls. Accuracy and hand-eye coordination is the problem. You really need to practice a lot to get more than 4 balls down. You need to train a lot to get fast and accurate throws in your muscel memory. Handspeed is just a side effect, it does not matter.
In 1977 I was able to observe the great Russian juggler, Ignatiev, keep 11 rings going for almost 20 minutes while he was waiting to go onstage at the Moscow Circus on tour in Philadelphia. Never dropped a single one during that time.
5:15 is that juggling though? The balls are being caught by his arms and rolling down into his hands. Very impressive I don’t want to sound like I’m not in awe, but the arm rolling seems like it would disqualify

love the inclusion of normal ppl into the demonstrations this time! hope the trend continues for the series
6:26 he misses a ball at the last second
What's more impressive is he caught 6/7 balls in each hand
He is not even looking at balls while catching. It's amazing as well as insane
juggling really develops your peripheral vision. It also makes you more ambidextrous and increases cross-hemisphereal connections in your brain
The hand speed assessment for 23-25 balls is inaccurate, because there was no weight in his hands, which would have slowed his speed with decreasing affect with each ball that leaves his hands.
Just commented on how to find the practical limit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Used model measuring mistake: You should at least hold a ball in each hand before trying to define maximum speed/frequency.
Didn't know Ben Stiller has a brother who is a juggling engineer! 🤔
Would that be an enginuggler? A jugglineer?

My dirty mind:hehhee
What a fun, uplifting, and informative series of videos. You've made the world a slightly better place, Robbie. Thank you.
In 1977 I was able to observe the great Russian juggler, Ignatiev, keep 11 rings going for almost 20 minutes while he was waiting to go onstage at the Moscow Circus on tour in Philadelphia. Never dropped a single one during that time.
9:14 couldn't they have an assistant toss additional balls to them after they've started?
This series is fantastic. I really enjoy seeing passionate people dedicate themselves to a sport or craft. Thanks!
5:15 is that juggling though? The balls are being caught by his arms and rolling down into his hands.
Very impressive I don’t want to sound like I’m not in awe, but the arm rolling seems like it would disqualify
idk its a diffrent type of juggling tho, it would be hard to do it behind the back while not touching
technically it is "juggling", going by the definition of the word. and as you said, it is indeed impressive.
there is a type called contact juggling this is more similar to that
@@afj810 rolling juggling is more precise, contact juggling is associated with something a bit different
