@xtr.7662 Yeah I agree, it's like a Judgment-Lost Judgment situation to be honest. Judgment has the better story but Lost Judgment even with a slightly worse story is often preferred because the everything else part of the gamee is just that much better than its predecessor. Same thing goes here.
you don't, but knowing the story and the characters from Gaiden actually makes some scenes more impactful since they are in the story of Infinite Wealth@@satyamSaha
@vanswock9277 it is a spinoff, the game is literally called Like a Dragon 7 Side Story in Japan. There’s also the fact that it only released digitally in the west at only $50 which they would never do for a mainline game. Infinite Wealth also makes it obvious that Gaiden was made later in development as Kiryu doesn’t have Agent style and the Daidoji are barely involved in 8’s plot.
I on P3R after two weeks (and like 130 hours) of IW... and, man, I miss the active combat angle. Being able to block and set up physical attacks really adds a ton.
Pokemon is literally the first game I remember playing so turn based will forever be my favourite type of game. Persona, Older Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest just to name a few. I get bored of button smashing hence why I couldn't careless about games like COD, Fortnite, Overwatch and dumb fast pace games.
I feel the only other game right now that could even come close to competing for my GOTY 2024 will probably be Dragon's Dogma 2. Infinite Wealth was so enjoyable and I loved making multiple saves seeing how long it was taking me to complete certain chapters as I got sidetracked by mini-game and sub stories
IW is the best modern turn base RPG Uts borrow little strategy element in its combat Like baldur gate 3, you must account for environment, enemy position, your team position. How skill behave, active guarding, button prompt for making skill stronger. Its the best
100% this. After playing 3 full campaigns of Baldur's Gate 3, this is the only turn-based JRPG that doesn't feel stiff in its combat. Possibly my favourite JRPG of all time and I think RGG can still top it it the next one (with 3 parties and even more characters and 100 jobs :D)
the combat is a 100% improvement over 7 yet they dropped the ball with the side content relating to the combat. in Y7 you have the normal dungeons in Ijincho and Kamurocho then you have the battel arena in Sotenbori that has 30th floors with special conditions to make the fights interesting and finally the normal and true Millennium Tower. in Y8 you literally only have two normal dungeons one hawiie and one in Ijincho and they are just randomly generated and bland and worst THEY ONLY GO UP TO LVL 55. this means if your party reached lvl55 -which is the midpoint in most rpg games- you have nothing to play aginst rendering the combat useless excpet if you like fighting low lvld enemies and squashing them.
Soberscot's reaction to the game is exactly mine, as a fellow scot, I agree with all his perspectives on it, and no, its totally not because we are both scottish.
This game is like the 2 yakuza i enjoyed the least (yakuza 5 and like a dragon) had a love child and like 2 uneven numbers turned into an even one this game is just so much fucking fun. In general the strategy you can put into a fight and the fact that you can move it's a mix between an action and turn based RPG kinda and i have to applaud you for even being able to describe why you love this game so much, i sure a fuck can't there is just wayyyy too much to love. Edit: 2 things, -i apologise for the curse words i am just too excited And now that kiryu is gone they should bring shinada back please please i miss him i beg you please please.
As someone who played all the Yakuza games and it spins off but 7 it's just hard going back to It since 8 improved it a lot and the jobs winch some i miss in 7 but 8 makes it easier and the soundtrack is gorgeous.
For me it's without a doubt the most fun I've had with an RGG Studio game, storywise it was quite a let down but because of that I think it's one of the games that should be alright to play as their 2nd after 7, so fuck it. 80+ hours in and I am on track to finishing NG+ Legend, gameplay wise it's a MASSIVE improvement from 7 where I grinded because I have to but in 8 I grinded because I WANTED to, it's that fun. Glad it's one of their better selling games, because holy shit it's really fun, everything but the main story was a huge blast, still is.
Infinite Wealth is amazing, but you actively have to like the story of Yakuza 7/Yakuza Like a Dragon specifically for it to hit its mark. Otherwise the relevance of Ichiban’s best friends and his general character motivation is lost on you :(
@@xtr.7662 Nocturne was one of my first turned based RPGs besides Pokemon so I feel the difficulty of SMT is really overblown as it's very easy to make a team that can deal with specific roadblocks/carry huge chunks of the game and not necessarily having to grind is one the main things it praised for since the fusion system makes the party very customizable especially in the newer entries.
@@frostlover thats true( for most fights), only thing you really need to move forward is knowing how to use buffs and debuffs still if you have 0 experience in the genre it might come as hard

the "undiagnosed Schizophrenia" Had me laughing my fucking ass off. I don't know why that made me laugh so damn much. My coworkers looking at me like I'm some crazy buffoon. This shit makes complete sense. I'm still debating between The Last Judgment Or Infinite Wealth. Please Help me with this decision. :)
I actually think that is the Yakuza game that in order to play it, you have to play at least 1 2 0 and 7 Gaiden for enjoying it almost fully because of the bucket list and Ichiban arc in 7. PS: although Dragon Quest (the goat) is seemingly basic, but dragon quest 5 8 and 11 are very deep and good, with amazing stories and characters.
Yakuza to me, has always done a brilliant job of making interesting characters and enjoyable narratives, all while not getting overly nebulous with its setting (Final Fantasy) or pretentious with its themes (Persona). Its main goal is to entertain, if I could sum it up. It’s not perfect mechanically compared to other RPGs, but it’s kept my full attention despite normally hating this genre for dragging themselves out way longer than needed. Keep living, Ichi.
I see your Yakuza steam list and you're missing a gem on it. WHERE IS FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: LOST PARADISE BRO? Oh wait, Sega, why isn't it on Steam?!?
While infinite wealth has one if not the best turn based combat ive ever played sure games like persona 5 are awesome as well but this is unlike most that have fixed battles and arenas this is almost a real time tactics game
It's very dynamic, you're never just pressing an option and watching the character interact. Specially now that you can move around and pick up something to hit them, getting closer for more damage and etc. Also, 90% of the special attacks have a quick time event to do more damage, so you're never just watching the fight happens.
Nope still think Turn Base is a low tier, outdated, and straight lazy form of gaming this day in age. Especially in a great beat ‘Em up series like Yakuza. Tired of y’all glazing this game when it’s not even Yakuza anymore. Adding Kiryu was just lazy fan service.

One thing, its not the 8th. 0 and Gaiden are both mainline games, IW is technically the 10th game
actually Gaiden is a spinoff making Infinite Wealth the 9th mainline game. You don't even need to play Gaiden to understand 8's story.

I recommend you try out Chrono Trigger as that game's Combat is simple to learn but hard to master as well as being incredibly fast-paced.

It's Yokohama sunset, the menu theme of infinite wealth.
Burned Out, the title theme of the game
Real and Dragon-pilled

gay mode is the main thing in the game
I'd say start with 7, then 8. later go back to kiryu saga.
