Hey man I'm thinking about getting a German shepherd but he would need to stay home alone in our huge back yard for about 2-3 hours can he stay alone ? Last ting I want is not being able to take care of him and have to give him away

jasjit kaur Yes, this is perfectly fine. As long as your dog gets plenty of exercise before you leave and when you return. A German Shepherd is hard work, but extremely intelligent and loyal. Well worth the effort, but believe me, it does take a lot of effort, so do as much research as you possibly can before committing to this fantastic breed. If you put in the time with training and dedication, you will be rewarded with, (in my opinion) the most loyal dog in the world.

Its not a problem but please please please dont plan on using a rope or chain and NEVER a runner on a cable from above (dangerous). Let him be free. So hope you have a fence!
forgot to mention. I would not try this your first week. You need to crate the dog 100% of the time it is unattended. Then he/she earns freedom from that point on. Everything needs to be earned. Develop the bond, let it get used to "home" and then gradually work on it. Soon he will earn 100% freedom. The crate is your friend, please dont feel bad. They love it if done properly. Dont use it as punishment.

Got my gsd Zeus a couple of days ago. He's so handsome and obedient already! My Lhasa apso girl bosses him around and he tolerates it well 😂Going to puppy classes soon and starting basic command training. I'm discouraging mouthing from the outset by saying no and he stops. Is this the right thing to do? He has sharp baby teeth and I don't want him accidentally hurting relatives when playing/petting etc. Any other tips and tricks would be much appreciated! 😊
got my GSP a week ago and I never realized how smart they are, he is basically done training with the basics, but he still isn't eating enough. I tried ally eh basics such as warm up food, new food, food in hand. I know he's hungry because he likes treats.

Saber is beautiful. I'm jealous, but i hope to get a GSD when i'm done with my masters degree this year! I've been wanting one for 5+ years (I couldn't have one in small apartments).

Great training. Try some hand signals. I was in a pet shop,, and had some people wanting to know if my boy knew any special things. He doesn't do tricks, except 'shake hands'. My boy knows commands in German, which he's known most of his life. His breeder didn't teach them, and since he came to me right after them at 10 weeks, neither of us know how he learned them. I kept up with them adding hand signals. He likes doing them. Saber might, too.
