    I just got 2 driving irons (3 and a 4) they work so well for me on my course where I have 3 par 3's all around 190 - 200 yards which have open front greens to run the ball on. I find the driving irons to be so much easier to hit straight, the ball flight gets less affected by the wind and seems to have a more piercing, slightly flatter flight. I also have a hybrid and a fairway wood as those are much easier to hit from rough lies (both go the same relative distance and the 2 driving irons) Dropped my lob wedge from the bag to make space for them and I would say a lot of handicap golfers could benefit from having more clubs top end of the bag

    I feel so odd playing a bag without a fairway wood. But my 18* driving iron is so good for me it’s made my 3 wood almost irrelevant. Extra wedge might be more useful than a 3 wood. I’ve even thought of playing two drivers. A spinny forgiving high lofted driver and a bomber. How often do I need a 270 carry club instead of a 250? For longer hitters these days, if you aren’t playing 600 yard par 5s the 3 wood doesn’t get used much if you are comfortable with a driving iron.

    • @willfieldiii7150
      @willfieldiii7150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just don't get on with 3 woods consistently so I've got a tsi3 hybrid set to 18° and use it as my 3 wood as I can get 235 yards out of it and just got a callaway x forged utility iron for off the tee in to wind, then go in to a 4 iron. I'm much better with irons and so completely agree with what you are saying. So instead of 2 drivers I've got the utility as an alternative.

  • @justinm4801

    I purchased this in the 4 iron. Ive played around with the loft sleeve on the course. Not on a launch monitor though. The difference in lofting down on the course isnt too noticeable. Lofting up however you notice a higher apex. Super easy to hit off a tee. The boys couldnt believe the distance i was getting with a 4 iron. Around a 240 total distance. I paired it with a modus 105x. I usually play my clubs 2 degrees flat. I did notice the more upright lie angle had an opposite effect of what some might expect, where it actually causes me to fade the ball more and I have a harder time hitting a draw with this club. Its more of a straight/fade bias for me with the naturally upright lie angle. Great review!!

    I have this club from a few generations ago. Love the versatility. If it’s a windy day or I know I will need to hit it off the tee more I’ll set it at 18. If it’s a longer course that has a long par 3 or I know I’ll be hitting longer shots into a green, I’ll set it at 20 or 21. Great click off the face... love it.

    Thanks for the great info guys, FYI you helped me make the conversion. I am one that has struggled with hybrids. Went to a Titleist fit and the U*510 was surprisingly friendly and better than woods & hybrid for me. I put it in to play and even a fairly stinky toe strike still gets a "good shot" from playing partners.

    I recently bought the 3 iron in the KBS steel shaft. I spin woods way too much and this a great safe option off the tee. I wanted to get a little less spin and more rollout so I put it in the draw setting at 18.5 degrees. Great review.

I think a lot of people would love to see the One Length results, and then have you compared those results to the standard length results - see what kind of differences Matt is getting with basically the same lofts but different lengths. Would love to see this!!

    I've had a real issue with the last few years cobra models.. they perform very well in my experience on low face toward heel strikes, but I'm much more of a down hitting high on the face more toward toe striker. Every cobra in the last few years, whether it be driver, fairway wood, hybrid, or iron, they all seem to struggle with these strikes.

    I have a cobra 3 utility one length that i added to my wishon one lengths, been using it in 19.5 really nice club that you can feel spring off the sweet spot. Great for tighter par4's where i dont have room for a sliced driver. The draw setting have a big effect too, tried it out at the range and just hook it instead of straight.

    • @DavidSmith-lo7wf

    • @krusher74
      @krusher74 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidSmith-lo7wf (reply 2 years later!) I really like the one length, but I am only using a limited set of clubs, I have a 5 hybrid (eq1-nx) 7/8/9 cobra irons in the one length.(corbra are strong lofter so dont need a 6) Above that i use a 5 wishon eq1-nxwood a driver and below i use a cleveland smart sole C (42deg) and 52 wedge, and a putter. I recently changed the sterling irons out for the new eq1-nx and in a few rounds the 7 iron cracked at the welds, I have now moved to cobras.

    I pre-ordered the 3 & 4 direct from Cobra when they were first announced because I could get them custom with the same Aerotech Steelfiber shafts I have in my MP-20 HMB. I wish Mizuno hadn't stop making "iron-like" hybrids. I guess the MP-18 versions didn't do too well for them.

  • @adrianjacome8714

    Driving Iron Shootout!
    Truth is there are players, like me, that struggle with hybrid and 3/4 wood, they went way too high and not workable. So I carry driver then mizuno mp 20 HMB in 2 (16.5*) and 3 (21*). As a better iron player im always interested in whats out there and how they all perform. Truth is you can play off the tee shot where you hit slightly up on it or level to hit lower and off the deck you can still work flight. Hybrids and woods never let me do that and seem like they are too hot off face and never stay consistent.

    • @julia-6195
      @julia-6195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The F9 4i is 19.5 degrees. It's the longest they make for that set. They're out of stock at Cobra. The SZ 4i is 19 degrees and are $115 ea. I used a BioCell 4i off the tee for several years before I bought new irons and could hit it well... off the tee. I know driving irons are expensive. If you're on a budget you could try this. I actually miss my old BioCell 4i. I should have sold the set from 5-GW instead of 4-GW.

Is there anything I can alter on that club to make it easier to get off the ground? Lead tape? Put it back to the 18 degree of the 3 iron, which if I do that then will it go any further then my three iron when the only difference would be steel shaft verse hybrid graphite shaft? So, because that DI is adjustable, does that mean any loft change will remove any offset change? It seems like the hosel adjustments would instead lean the top of the club creating less or more loft with the head staying in the same spot in relation to the shaft.

    I'm a high to mid handicap golfer. I have been using my 3-4 iron as an iron to use for a stinger shot or a get my self out of trouble iron. With a half back swing with full speed follow through I can typically hit the ball around 180-190 yards with my 4 iron. (full swing speed of 110-115 on average with driver and or 4 iron). I have been looking at adding the club to my bag to provide me some additional shot options as a second shot on a long par 5 or narrower fairways on par 4s. Do you have any suggestions to how I may better utilize the club to help take 2-5 strokes off my game.
    -for the record I am working mainly on my putting and chipping to bring my handicap down immediately, just looking for something to help improve my long game.

    Do you happen to have the one length version to test? Looking to order one of those, just not sure on the shaft. Thanks for the content as always!

    terrible with a three wood, been thinking of a 2hybrid (16*), have you done a video on delivery/swing characteristics that would favor one vs the other?

    I hit my 4 iron 205 and I need a club that goes in the range of 210-225. Would the 4 utility be a good choice?

    Do you think the tech in these driving irons means the traditional 3 wood could become obsolete for some players?

    @txg what do you think. Is it possible to bend this utility iron? I need 19° of loft and as a lefty only the 4 iron loft is available for the utility...

    As a fellow lefty from what I can see I can only order the 3 loft with a stock graphite shaft. Is this right?
