The most disappointing thing about this movie is how they hyped up prime turning on the autobots and he literally fought bubblebee for like 30s and turned good
I know it's transformers but it was one of the most unrealistic parts of the film. what I mean is the first 3 were quite realistic and the fourth to an extent but TLK just didn't have that feel of realism in some scenes as it should've. I love The Last Knight but my favourite is DOTM but imagine that film with Megan Fox would probably be the best film.
I remember when TLK came out. A family friend gave us a pirated copy to watch at home, telling us that it wasn’t worth the price of a ticket. I watched it, and my sister, who had never seen a transformers movie in full, kept asking questions about what was going on, and I couldn’t answer any of them because I, who had seen all the previous films multiple times, was just as lost. There were a few moments where I thought I had fallen asleep and missed an important scene, but found out that I was wide awake(though extremely bored and confused) the entire time.
Yea I don't know what's the deal with the orphaned girl at the beginning. From the trailer I thought she was the female new lead then she was gone for the entire movie and showed up at the end. Also Grimlock shows up as a cameo and acting like a dog then never seen again. This movie was just disjointed and all over the place.
let face it... they don't care at all about the story... it not a movie but a disneyland ride.. that why people kind of done since they care about story as well since they had to sit there for hours.... not a 5 min ride...
The main problem is that they probably never wrote a script. This kind of story wouldn't work into a three act structure and would definitely be shorter
I did think the Last Knight was confusing with all the different information like Bumblebee being on Earth during WW2. It didn’t connect with the storyline of the first 4 films. I know you want to change things up with sequels but the storyline should’ve stayed the same through all 5 films. I think it would’ve been really successful if the Last Knight wouldn’t have crammed everything together. And to top it all they teased a sequel at the end. Maybe they can learn from their mistakes and make a final film that blows everyone away.
Transformer 2 was as if transformers 1 didn’t happen and 3 said nothing existed before it and so on. The thought process on any type of continuity was long forgotten. Each movie contradicted the ones before it. All 5 were a big mess.
I literally had to say "sorry" to my girlfriend and my buddy for dragging them to see it in theatre lol as a fan since I was a kid , I was embarrassed that I talked so highly about a movie franchise that ended in such hot garbage
They should’ve continued the story of Age of extinction. Galvatron nowhere to be found and Optimus leaving earth. They could’ve gone for a movie without Optimus for the majority of the time and only seeing the scene where he’s floating to cybertron. Galvatron taking control for the most part and Optimus arriving at the end but as Nemesis prime. Optimus ripping The knights would’ve been an awesome last scene for the 5th movie and the Last knight being the 6th movie instead of the bumblebee reboot. Optimus learns about the staff by Quintessa, he gets controlled, he gets it but this time alone ( assuming that Jager and Vivian never got there or even met) and he gets stopped by the autobots. The fight starts and Optimus goes victorious. He returned to cybertron and starts the process that megatron did in TLK. Optimus starts to feel that something is wrong and starts to gain his knowledge back. We see cybertron in TLK but with Optimus incarcerated. The autobots don’t give up and fight to free Optimus. Optimus with his knowledge back frees himself and makes his way out. Galvatron appears with his army and the war begins. The Dino bots appear thanks to Optimus finding them in cybertron( assuming that they got captured after Optimus left by galvatron) . Now Optimus and bumblebee start to get in sync and with the autobots they defeat galvatron and Quintessa gets shot by bumblebee. Nitro Zeus survives and escapes and the knights reunited as in TLK. Then we see the final cut from human Quintessa and that’s the end.
Ingen Scientist ID 1993 That is a amazing story hopefully one day they actually make that in my mind I would have liked to see for the 5th movie and 6th movie is TLK 5th that Optimus is gone and some new characters like more Autobots like Ultra Magnus and possibly cyclones and the rest like G1 except it’s the Autobots and Ultra Magnus is the leader against Galvatron and his minions and both sides are looking for Relics from the past like from Transformers prime and the the Autobots have gotten two already the Decepticons have got threee there are 7 in total and only 2 remain the Decepticons plan to trick the Autobots by capturing one of them like Crosshairs and he sends out a desstress signal the Autobots go but Hound stays behind to protect the relics they have collected all the Decepticons attack at once against Hound the Autobots free crosshairs but Hound is down and they get the relics the Autobots rush back to Hound’s aid luckily Hound is in a stable condition but not able to fight so the rest go to fight the Decepticons and Galvatron and the Decepticons wanted all the Relics so they could create a space bridge that if dark energon was mixed with the relics when they where all together make a giant serge creating the space bridge letting no other than unicorn through except he isn’t a giant he’s regular size but packs a heavy punch the Autobots fight the deceptions Mangus V Galvatron Galvtron wins Magnus is badly wounded but then Bumblebee fights Galvatron with hot rod they defat him the remaining Decepticons retreat with Galvatron and the Autobots try to destroy the space bridge but in order to stop the space bridge one has to stay and deactivate it manually and Hot rod says he will do it he makes the Sacrifice for the others while they escape the they while Everyone watches Hot rod deactivate it but everything explodes and bee searches through the remains for him Bee finds him but he says I thank you for a wounderful life till all our one everyone pays respects and says till all our one and at the end 1 year later Bumblebee gets his voice fixed and Hounds back in fighting shape but the camera shows Magnus looking up at the sky and it zooms all the ways into outer space to show Nemesis prime in the knight version except his flames and colors are purple and black his eyes shine as it shows him say I’m coming for you Autobots and the credits roll I think that would be a great story too aswell what do you think that’s what my mind would hav Been
Transmotion , making Optimus the bad guy could be fun if he gets to being good like I proposed. He can return being nemesis prime and fight ultra magnus and Optimus realizes that. They will need to kill Quintessa in order to free prime from the mind control. The only flaw in your story is that you focus on getting crosshairs free and killing hot rod. That’s great but the focus has to be the battles or decepticons and autobots like in transformers 1. Hot rod has to be bees sidekick and prime the leader. Focusing on how to go home and being able to help earth whenever trouble comes. That’s why I’m implementing my story because it follows realistically after AOE. But you have a great point.
I think that writer's room is what ruined this movie. We never got a explanation of Megatron coming back from being Galvatron in the previous movie. Quintessa came out of nowhere, Unicorn being Earth was pulled from nowhere. everything dealing with Merlin and his staff was so out of left field. And the constant aspect ratio changes, what was the deal with that?
Michael Bay stated he wanted the aspect ratio to change all the time for the cinematic experience and to show his take. Also 98% of the movie was filmed in IMAX cameras. So in an IMAX theatre in 3D this movie is amazing. But Michael Bay forgot the people who want to watch this at home....
Unicron being Earth actually happened in Transformers Prime, so it didn’t completely come out of nowhere. Also if you’d like a timeline Transformers Prime ran from 2010 to 2013, whereas TLK released in 2017, so its entirely possible that Michael Bay copied the idea but never went anywhere with it.
Unicron being earth is old lore bit most transformer goers dont know anything before the movies because a lot of it is uninteresting and not out in an exciting format.

I took it as the same reason Solo failed, it wasn’t the movies fault but the one before it, the last Jedi, or in this case age of extinction, where after that movie no one cared about the series anymore

this is very true especially when talking about Zack Snyder and such but are you implying this for Michael Bay cause if so then no, it's quite clear he had free creative control for the bayverse especially for TLK really the only thing that Paramount interfered with was just the run time of the film and it wasn't that drastic lol
+Great action +cool cars -convoluted incoherent plot -repetitive story telling -under developed characters -megatron is secondary villain 5.5/10 this movie feels rushed and was rushed and made everything look messy in the end

13:40 in my opinion the old autobot cast had way more personality,and everyone knew them,thats why i prefer the first 3,especially the first.The first time i saw the new characters was in the fourth film,so i obviously didn't like them.
Also yes, and that factors into how understandable the story is, when you have no idea who the heck your characters are, you get sidetracked and lose track of the flow of the story. The og 5, optimus, bumblebee, ironhide, ratchet, jazz, were all pretty understandable, obviously, we know who Optimus and bee are, and ratchet was an ambulance, so we know who that is, we kinda have to take personality into account to see who ironhide and jazz are though, but we get to see who they are pretty quickly
I actually enjoyed the film not my favorite for sure, but I thought it was alright. Not very rewatchable because of how drawn out the movie was. But I liked it L

Only problem is that it was not at all well put together; it just looked like they threw things in there without even a hint of organization. Agreed. ‘Age of Extinction’ was disappointing. Most of us fans we’re expecting the developers to fix some of the issues the previous movies had and finally fix them in the 4th movie. The issues actually got worse and that led to most of us having very little hope that the 5th movie would do well. The 5th movie was just total trash.
I was so disappointed in Age of Extinction that I never went back to see the next two Transformers movies in the theater. Still haven’t seen them at home either.
Direction and story aside, I think that a big contributor for the failure of Last Knight was the fact that each movie in the franchise was progressively less enjoyable or memerable than the last. People simply did not see the 5th installment as something worth going to the theater for. Plus, after Grimlock was HEAVILY marketed for the previous movie to which he was barely in, the audience was growing wise to Paramount's disingenuousness advertising schemes. Interestingly enough, I think that the change of directors was what contributed in the success of the Bumblebee movie, since it meant audiences could expect a fresh perspective away from Michael Bay's obsession with tits and explosions.
The bayverse also peaked to early. With dark of the moon. That movie was finale worthy if tweaked with the original ending and other things. Also if megatron wasn't a joke

My personal reasons why TLK failed is because 1. The script was bad 2. Way to much humans and not enough Transformers 3. There wasn't enough action in the movie, i cant be the only one that feels that way. 4. the misleading things they try to put in like you said about Cogman being a headmaster 5. Not getting in dept with the Bots and Cons like their back story, history 6. the Pacing in the film which obviously would make people bored i understand they're trying to reduce the length time of the film but they got to make the film/story interesting. 7. the Minor or supporting characters barley get to do anything like Drift,Crosshairs and hound show up in random scenes usually just standing there or talking, we dont get enough time with the other autobots. we only get a scene Drift and Crosshairs fighting onslaught and that was it. i would like to see autobots Vs Decepticons fight scene for about 1 min and not cut away from the action in 30 second a good fight i wanted to see like Hound vs Nitro Zeus, Bumblebee vs barricade (im talking about a full on fight scene in robot mode) or at least give a scene where all the autobots including the dinobots trying to fight and restrain Optimus/Nemesis . i know they were probably on a budget but at least give some or somebot an important roll instead of the staning there or have them off screen doing something else.
I think it failed because Age of Extinction was hated by many people and many just stopped watching (Like myself/Everyone I know) This is like when the Last Jedi came out, Many people hated it and Solo lost so much money until it became a box office bomb. Even rise of Skywalker was affected(It only made half of what the force awakens did) But that’s just how I see it.
The first TF film was a good start, the second showed a lack of story development and retconned part of the first film and by the third the lack of overarching plot and continued retcons showed this was going nowhere
Sten the Tombstone the All spark started out as an unlimited source of energy that could even restore a transformers body in the first and in the second it was little more than an object that could hold energy and needed recharging and could also be replaced. In dark of the moon, it was said that cybertron could be rebuilt with the resources of the planet earth but in the previous films it was a dead husk without the all spark but that apparently doesn’t matter now. Also earths history with cybertronians gets more convoluted with each passing film. In the first bumblebee was on earth looking for Sam by the 5th he’s been here since WW2
In my eyes it failed because it strayed away from the story that being told in the other films. There are moments when I laugh and was shocked. It was very confusing but all in all if I think it made a lot of money overseas
This video was actually quite refreshing to hear! I see lots of people ripping on all the Michael Bay Transformers movies, so its nice to hear someone who actually enjoys them, realizing they're not perfect. That's how I feel about the movies. I also appreciate how you didn't focus the series failure on Michael Bay. People love to hate on Michael Bay and I was slightly on the bandwagon with them, but this video has definitely reshaped my thinking. I definitely wouldn't mind a sixth and final movie in this series under Michael Bay as long as they get better writers.
Story aside, there's a simple rule that, when the good guys overpowered the bad guys easily in combat, there's no excitement left. In the first movies, the key decepticons were basically tanks who could tke hit after hit and won't go down easily. In the latter movies, decepticons became so squishy that they were getting sliced like butter.
The moment they got rid of sam ruined it for me. I can handle megan fox being taken out, but taking out the main character is too much. If they were going that route, they could've at least made the last knight into war for cybertron.
Squabba the Hutch i dont think any humans should of been in it to begin with :/. Its transformers. Sam isnt a transformer but he gets more screen time then any of them 🤨 sam always steal the spotlight from the autobots and deceptions. So i say no humans just the autobots and deceptions.

I completely agree with your statement that fans of the first 3 with Shia and fans of Age of Extinction both didn't like The Last Knight. Because I'm part of that group. I loved the first 4 cause they felt like complete stories with epic action and great plot twists. Where Optimus, the Autobots, the Decepticons, and the humans all had equal screen time. And where The Last Knight was a huge mess with niether of those. The Last Knight screwed up Optimus as a character as well and he wasn't in the movie till the end. Like whaaaaaaat. It was super odd!! And I'm a diehard fan of the first 4!!
Mike, may I add that Ehren Kruger getting fired was a MAJOR factor! I thought you’d talk about him. Bay and him had a wonderful streak going for the last three movies. They just worked. We knew what we were going to get. That’s what we expected with the Last Knight.
Horse Head Nation It’s because Hasbro wasn’t happy with the whole “Creators being Alien” angle he insinuated in AOE. It’s really sad. Ultimately it was the Studio that killed Bayformers. Not Bay or his team.
To be honest I think transformers time in the cinemas has gone...I still want to watch transformers in the cinemas, but maybe it’s best to make way for other franchises like Godzilla, Sonic, or any other franchise, hell even a smash bro’s cinematic universe if they ever do it
Just watched this, and I hope you have a video detailing one of my biggest peeves with the movies as they progressed. I'd love to see a video on why the Autobots seemingly went out of their way to only have Optimus and one or two non-car guys at any given time. There was an excavator in TLK who seemed shoved in for no reason, rather than being used to showcase that yes, Cade DID manage to rescue some other Autobots before the TRF went in an killed them. Lots to complain about, not enough that would've been interesting. The whole 'round up any survivors and leave' part of the first half is a great hook, but they blew it for world-ending peril and too much setup in the second half
I remember how glad I was about Barricade being back... and then the movie bored me to death :'D which was completely new for me, even if I had my nitpicks with the previous movies sometimes, they were never boring or outright BAD. Sometimes you just enjoy giant metal aliens shooting and kicking the shit out of each other :D
If they are going to reboot it or not, bay's transformers had so much potential especially after the third. The realistic looks on the transformers to the soundtrack. The transformer soundtrack has always been my favorite.
Throughout the transformers live action movies I wanted to see robots from the cartoons and for them to look like them, this is because it's what would have been cool and make me feel like deja vu almost. That's what I wanted to see more of.
Its incredibly apparent based on the editing that a LOT of content was cut to meet a shorter length. I think there was like 5 hours of footage. Unfortunately, all that cut footage explained Galvatron being found by Quintessa and going back to Megatron, the Bumblebee/Barricade fight, as well as other stuff we never got, like when Bee charged Prime and got slammed in that one trailer. If they just release all the cut footage on a blu ray, it would raise the film up a couple points, possibly save it from disaster. But i think that ship has sailed now 😕 i think all we wanted out of this was closure, and ended up getting a mess.

@@ThatBalkanGuy. Some foreign theaters acrually showed The Last Knight with different takes of dialogue and scenes that werent used in the US, it was so bizarre. Idk whay happened, but i wish it was all just there for us

The thing that amazes me, is that it wasn't just a bad movie... it was a poor piece of film making. Even if you hated the first TF film, or hated Revenge of the Fallen through Age of Extinction, those films had some form of a beginning, middle, and end, you know.... like a typical movie does. This movie, had horrible editing, and the pacing was all over the place. What amazes me is, this was the movie that they hired a whole new team of writers, because TLK was supposed to start a Transformers Cinematic Universe, much like Marvel and DC. Even by Michael Bay standards, this film was a mess. Characters appearing in frame, then gone the next, or hyped up characters died instantly, or were completely forgotten about. So much dialogue that conflicted with the previous 4 films. And the marketing of Nemesis Prime. Many people say "Well it's Bay, what do you expect?" but... Bay is just one guy. Even if he's the director, there's hundreds of thousands of people that have a hand in making a movie. Why did the writers try to push King Arthur Knights....with World War 2?
This video is really good! I also am a hardcore Transformers fan and I was so disappointed after seeing this movie. I agree with all of your points and I do hope that paramount can make a comeback with good transformers films in the future.
I honestly thought the movie integrated history into present, somewhat comparable to revenge of the fallen. With my expectations set low by the fourth movie, I still think this one is good, except for the Cade sex-life part. But IDK, my standards for movies are usually low.

Because of the set run time a lot of stuff we were promised didn't happen like a story about optimus and megatron's origins together before and during the war, and just more nemesis prime he was nemesis for like 5 minutes
The lore the ideas that they had were actually pretty great! (Except for the continuity errors) but the thing is was the execution . The Last Knight fet like they wanted to set up the universe one movie . The Last Knight had potential to be a great movie but instead they rushed it . Look at the MCU they slowly set things up but what they did with transformers was the complete opposite . Optimus Prime well Nemesis Prime being the villain would've made an awesome character arc for both optimus and the autobots like how can the autobots deal with their new threat if the new threat is their own leader and all that . The last knight had a huge wasted potential
I also failed my transformers just as much as the last knight had failed me and everyone I watched the last knight twice in theatres and the last time I watched transformers twice in theaters was with revenge of the fallen and if I knew the transformers movies would end I would’ve gone everyday to pay and watch transformers 5 to save my franchise its to late now
Agreed, my on issue with bumblebee is that the transformers look to chi compared to the first 3 movies so hopefully the reboot stays good when and doesn't go off the rails
The only reason this movie bombed was because Michael Bay directed The only good TF movies he made were TF3 and TF4 TF1- dull TF2- mishandled TF3- sound conclusion to bayformers generation 1 TF4- improved designs, had interesting plot and villains, got right voice for mega/galvatron, gave characters personality TF5- got megatron right, changed bumblebee back to TF3 version without explanation, over complicated messy plot, turn Optimus into an energon thirsty murderer
There are only three things about The Last Knight that is good: Megatron with Frank Welker finally reprising his role in a live action Transformers film, the soundtrack is glorious, and the final battle on Cybertron instead of a city in a fourth row is massive and entertaining.
In every movie I clapped in every in climax but in TLK I was just watched the movie and I was also scratching my head when they told the history and I was also bored

a few moments of the last knight i thought were great fun: hopkins flipping off the bird while cogman is driving him around in the streets hopkins telling cogman to be quiet for trying to break out into song while hopkins gives exposition dump of story elements to the other characters hopkins approaching ten downing street and being turned away by the security there like he is some kind of silly random, and then decides "well i'll just go in the other way then because no time to explain to those dolts the magnitude of the situation when the prime minister needs to be briefed on this immediately, plus don't they know i'm the last descendant of the long line of Witwikans"
This is an excellent video Marlin! I completely agree with everything. I am a massive form of age of extinction it’s my all time favourite movie and the last knight didn’t continue the story it needed to and was as you said slow fast boring and interesting all at the same time. The first four movies all have a specific feel and style that makes them feel like one. While the last knight did not fit in what that feeling or style and even bumblebee was too far aswell
They had done it the best by bringing Sam and Mikaela back to this franchise ..... Humans in robot films should be used perfectly , there's where Mark and others failed ... Shia was the best then comes Megan in my list ..!! You know this is why people always speak about the first 3 films of the franchise which actually had humour in them .....
Wow! I'm impressed! Such an informative video. Personally I hated TLK and also felt like it was vastly different in terms of style when compared to the older films, but I could never quite put my finger on why. I was one of the people who obsessively followed the production of TLK through arun09345 on Instagram and saw many behind the scenes shootings of scenes that ended up not being in the film, which leads me to believe someone forced Bay to delete a lot of scenes for the film for some reason, but now it makes sense. I don't think Michael Bay is the perfect choice to direct a Transformers movie, but I can't deny the guy has a style no one can replicate and to see his vision being "dumbed down" so they can make a shorter movie. The idea is not bad, but it was executed very poorly. That could also explain the fact that there are different versions of the film with different dialogues and scenes, some extended and some shortened. It feels like Michael Bay was done dirty, but we can't be sure the initial product was to be anything special considering the last couple of movies weren't anything to write home about. At the end of the day, Michael Bay had his run with the Transformers franchise and how they would look and feel through his perspective, and no matter how much you love them or hate them, you can't deny that the action, the music, the special effects, the scale and scope of the stories he tried to tell were nothing short of spectacular and breathtaking to behold! Till all are one!

There huge lack of other transformers action. The huge lack of the other transformers on scene. Also not really Desepticon action between Autobots fight scenes. Its just car chase and talking.
I loved the movies. I grew up with them. But... after they killed Ironhide the rest of DOTM had a bad aftertaste for me. And when TF 4 came out and Mirage/Dino and especially Sideswipe was nowhere to be found I...was...mad! I would be fine with losing my favorite two Autobots if they would have gotten an epic last fight against the humans before they die ON screen and don´t just disappear with no explanation behind the scenes. And the only thing I liked about TF 5 is the name Quintessa. The name, not the character. The entire movie was a mess. I miss the old times when I knew the movies were not perfect, but at least brought me joy watching them.
Just think about the main plot of movies 4-5: unknown aliens drop a bomb on dinosaurs and they become metal. Then Prime is almost killed by a human assault and his truck mode winds up in the hands of a mad engineer who revives him with the power of a car accumulator. Then they are assaultef again and Prime meets his friends: Bumblebee who just always miraculously reappears in any movie and 3 nonames who just couldn't arrive off-screen AGAIN. The bois go to attack a facility which recycles the metal dinos into a decepticon army. Megatron/Galvatron attacks Prime and almost defeats him w/o a fusion cannon (a feat Megatron couldn't achieve even in his upgraded rotf body, left alone as a human prototype). Prime puts his sword in a blender which happens to be in Galvatron's chest. Then Lockdown (who just happens to work for the aliens) captures Prime. Then Prime is saved by his gang, escapes and meets ancient super-transformers who turn into metal dinos. Prime finds a sword which somehow makes his forearms change into a knighty look. He fights the gigantic dino leader and defeats him through defying the laws of impulse and inertion (Prime just couldn't stop a huge, heavy creature charging at him and somehow remain where he stood). Then Prime and his friends kill an ARMY of mass-produced robots that were made to fight Prime or Bee toe to toe with the help of Dinobots who were weaker than Prime, as shown in previous scenes. That Galvatron escapes and Prime kills Lockdown. In the next movie, Prime meets yet another type of alien and is enslaved while the rest of his team searches for a macguffin together with an englush lord and his clockwork butler. Then Prime is redeemed, Megateon takes the macguffin, Prime kills a combiner and destroys the macguffin. Cybertron falls on Earth. Missed story arcs: aliens and their agenda, the arrival of Drift, Crosshairs and Hound, the origin of dinos and Prime's miracle weapons, the whole Megatron and Galvatron thing, Quintessa and her knights, Primus an Unicron. And lots of timeline and story logic problems.
I know the vast majority of my subscribers are Transformers fans. I of course am too. But that doesn’t mean we have to praise everything associated with the franchise. If you liked The Last Knight, that’s great. I didn’t. But that’s not really what this video is about. The Last Knight failed at the box office and I decided to take a look at why it did.

I know it's transformers but it was one of the most unrealistic parts of the film. what I mean is the first 3 were quite realistic and the fourth to an extent but TLK just didn't have that feel of realism in some scenes as it should've. I love The Last Knight but my favourite is DOTM but imagine that film with Megan Fox would probably be the best film.

I remember when TLK came out. A family friend gave us a pirated copy to watch at home, telling us that it wasn’t worth the price of a ticket. I watched it, and my sister, who had never seen a transformers movie in full, kept asking questions about what was going on, and I couldn’t answer any of them because I, who had seen all the previous films multiple times, was just as lost. There were a few moments where I thought I had fallen asleep and missed an important scene, but found out that I was wide awake(though extremely bored and confused) the entire time.
Yea I don't know what's the deal with the orphaned girl at the beginning. From the trailer I thought she was the female new lead then she was gone for the entire movie and showed up at the end. Also Grimlock shows up as a cameo and acting like a dog then never seen again. This movie was just disjointed and all over the place.
let face it... they don't care at all about the story... it not a movie but a disneyland ride.. that why people kind of done since they care about story as well since they had to sit there for hours.... not a 5 min ride...
Not to mention the sheer amount of swearing, add one more f-bomb and you have yourself a rated R movie

I did think the Last Knight was confusing with all the different information like Bumblebee being on Earth during WW2. It didn’t connect with the storyline of the first 4 films. I know you want to change things up with sequels but the storyline should’ve stayed the same through all 5 films. I think it would’ve been really successful if the Last Knight wouldn’t have crammed everything together. And to top it all they teased a sequel at the end. Maybe they can learn from their mistakes and make a final film that blows everyone away.

They should’ve continued the story of Age of extinction. Galvatron nowhere to be found and Optimus leaving earth. They could’ve gone for a movie without Optimus for the majority of the time and only seeing the scene where he’s floating to cybertron. Galvatron taking control for the most part and Optimus arriving at the end but as Nemesis prime. Optimus ripping The knights would’ve been an awesome last scene for the 5th movie and the Last knight being the 6th movie instead of the bumblebee reboot. Optimus learns about the staff by Quintessa, he gets controlled, he gets it but this time alone ( assuming that Jager and Vivian never got there or even met) and he gets stopped by the autobots. The fight starts and Optimus goes victorious. He returned to cybertron and starts the process that megatron did in TLK. Optimus starts to feel that something is wrong and starts to gain his knowledge back. We see cybertron in TLK but with Optimus incarcerated. The autobots don’t give up and fight to free Optimus. Optimus with his knowledge back frees himself and makes his way out. Galvatron appears with his army and the war begins. The Dino bots appear thanks to Optimus finding them in cybertron( assuming that they got captured after Optimus left by galvatron) . Now Optimus and bumblebee start to get in sync and with the autobots they defeat galvatron and Quintessa gets shot by bumblebee. Nitro Zeus survives and escapes and the knights reunited as in TLK. Then we see the final cut from human Quintessa and that’s the end.

Transmotion , making Optimus the bad guy could be fun if he gets to being good like I proposed. He can return being nemesis prime and fight ultra magnus and Optimus realizes that. They will need to kill Quintessa in order to free prime from the mind control. The only flaw in your story is that you focus on getting crosshairs free and killing hot rod. That’s great but the focus has to be the battles or decepticons and autobots like in transformers 1. Hot rod has to be bees sidekick and prime the leader. Focusing on how to go home and being able to help earth whenever trouble comes. That’s why I’m implementing my story because it follows realistically after AOE. But you have a great point.

I think that writer's room is what ruined this movie. We never got a explanation of Megatron coming back from being Galvatron in the previous movie. Quintessa came out of nowhere, Unicorn being Earth was pulled from nowhere. everything dealing with Merlin and his staff was so out of left field. And the constant aspect ratio changes, what was the deal with that?
Michael Bay stated he wanted the aspect ratio to change all the time for the cinematic experience and to show his take. Also 98% of the movie was filmed in IMAX cameras. So in an IMAX theatre in 3D this movie is amazing. But Michael Bay forgot the people who want to watch this at home....
Unicron being Earth actually happened in Transformers Prime, so it didn’t completely come out of nowhere. Also if you’d like a timeline Transformers Prime ran from 2010 to 2013, whereas TLK released in 2017, so its entirely possible that Michael Bay copied the idea but never went anywhere with it.

Also yes, and that factors into how understandable the story is, when you have no idea who the heck your characters are, you get sidetracked and lose track of the flow of the story. The og 5, optimus, bumblebee, ironhide, ratchet, jazz, were all pretty understandable, obviously, we know who Optimus and bee are, and ratchet was an ambulance, so we know who that is, we kinda have to take personality into account to see who ironhide and jazz are though, but we get to see who they are pretty quickly
I actually enjoyed the film not my favorite for sure, but I thought it was alright. Not very rewatchable because of how drawn out the movie was. But I liked it

Agreed. ‘Age of Extinction’ was disappointing. Most of us fans we’re expecting the developers to fix some of the issues the previous movies had and finally fix them in the 4th movie. The issues actually got worse and that led to most of us having very little hope that the 5th movie would do well. The 5th movie was just total trash.
I was so disappointed in Age of Extinction that I never went back to see the next two Transformers movies in the theater. Still haven’t seen them at home either.
I still don't know what's wrong with AoE, I thought the story was good and had a lot of good character (autobots with personality for once).
Direction and story aside, I think that a big contributor for the failure of Last Knight was the fact that each movie in the franchise was progressively less enjoyable or memerable than the last. People simply did not see the 5th installment as something worth going to the theater for. Plus, after Grimlock was HEAVILY marketed for the previous movie to which he was barely in, the audience was growing wise to Paramount's disingenuousness advertising schemes. Interestingly enough, I think that the change of directors was what contributed in the success of the Bumblebee movie, since it meant audiences could expect a fresh perspective away from Michael Bay's obsession with tits and explosions.
The bayverse also peaked to early. With dark of the moon. That movie was finale worthy if tweaked with the original ending and other things. Also if megatron wasn't a joke

My personal reasons why TLK failed is because
1. The script was bad
2. Way to much humans and not enough Transformers
3. There wasn't enough action in the movie, i cant be the only one that feels that way.
4. the misleading things they try to put in like you said about Cogman being a headmaster
5. Not getting in dept with the Bots and Cons like their back story, history
6. the Pacing in the film which obviously would make people bored i understand they're trying to reduce the length time of the film but they got to make the film/story interesting.
7. the Minor or supporting characters barley get to do anything like Drift,Crosshairs and hound show up in random scenes usually just standing there or talking, we dont get enough time with the other autobots. we only get a scene Drift and Crosshairs fighting onslaught and that was it. i would like to see autobots Vs Decepticons fight scene for about 1 min and not cut away from the action in 30 second a good fight i wanted to see like Hound vs Nitro Zeus, Bumblebee vs barricade (im talking about a full on fight scene in robot mode) or at least give a scene where all the autobots including the dinobots trying to fight and restrain Optimus/Nemesis . i know they were probably on a budget but at least give some or somebot an important roll instead of the staning there or have them off screen doing something else.

About the only thing Last Knight got right was lowering the run time. Age of Extinction felt like an eternity.
I think it failed because Age of Extinction was hated by many people and many just stopped watching (Like myself/Everyone I know)
This is like when the Last Jedi came out, Many people hated it and Solo lost so much money until it became a box office bomb. Even rise of Skywalker was affected(It only made half of what the force awakens did)

Sten the Tombstone the All spark started out as an unlimited source of energy that could even restore a transformers body in the first and in the second it was little more than an object that could hold energy and needed recharging and could also be replaced. In dark of the moon, it was said that cybertron could be rebuilt with the resources of the planet earth but in the previous films it was a dead husk without the all spark but that apparently doesn’t matter now. Also earths history with cybertronians gets more convoluted with each passing film. In the first bumblebee was on earth looking for Sam by the 5th he’s been here since WW2
I remember finding TLK on cable on a marathon, so I decided to watch, and I don't remember any of it and stopped out of boredom.
In my eyes it failed because it strayed away from the story that being told in the other films. There are moments when I laugh and was shocked. It was very confusing but all in all if I think it made a lot of money overseas
This video was actually quite refreshing to hear! I see lots of people ripping on all the Michael Bay Transformers movies, so its nice to hear someone who actually enjoys them, realizing they're not perfect. That's how I feel about the movies. I also appreciate how you didn't focus the series failure on Michael Bay. People love to hate on Michael Bay and I was slightly on the bandwagon with them, but this video has definitely reshaped my thinking. I definitely wouldn't mind a sixth and final movie in this series under Michael Bay as long as they get better writers.
Story aside, there's a simple rule that, when the good guys overpowered the bad guys easily in combat, there's no excitement left.
In the first movies, the key decepticons were basically tanks who could tke hit after hit and won't go down easily.
In the latter movies, decepticons became so squishy that they were getting sliced like butter.
My dad has never hated a movie so much since The Last Airbender.
The moment they got rid of sam ruined it for me. I can handle megan fox being taken out, but taking out the main character is too much. If they were going that route, they could've at least made the last knight into war for cybertron.

I completely agree with your statement that fans of the first 3 with Shia and fans of Age of Extinction both didn't like The Last Knight. Because I'm part of that group. I loved the first 4 cause they felt like complete stories with epic action and great plot twists. Where Optimus, the Autobots, the Decepticons, and the humans all had equal screen time. And where The Last Knight was a huge mess with niether of those. The Last Knight screwed up Optimus as a character as well and he wasn't in the movie till the end. Like whaaaaaaat. It was super odd!! And I'm a diehard fan of the first 4!!
I gotta say though, megatron's redesign looked pretty cool.
I saw this in theaters. I've seen a lot of bad movies but this is the first one where I wanted to demand for a refund.

Mike, may I add that Ehren Kruger getting fired was a MAJOR factor! I thought you’d talk about him. Bay and him had a wonderful streak going for the last three movies. They just worked. We knew what we were going to get. That’s what we expected with the Last Knight.

Horse Head Nation It’s because Hasbro wasn’t happy with the whole “Creators being Alien” angle he insinuated in AOE. It’s really sad. Ultimately it was the Studio that killed Bayformers. Not Bay or his team.
To be honest I think transformers time in the cinemas has gone...I still want to watch transformers in the cinemas, but maybe it’s best to make way for other franchises like Godzilla, Sonic, or any other franchise, hell even a smash bro’s cinematic universe if they ever do it

Just watched this, and I hope you have a video detailing one of my biggest peeves with the movies as they progressed.
I'd love to see a video on why the Autobots seemingly went out of their way to only have Optimus and one or two non-car guys at any given time. There was an excavator in TLK who seemed shoved in for no reason, rather than being used to showcase that yes, Cade DID manage to rescue some other Autobots before the TRF went in an killed them.
Lots to complain about, not enough that would've been interesting. The whole 'round up any survivors and leave' part of the first half is a great hook, but they blew it for world-ending peril and too much setup in the second half
I remember how glad I was about Barricade being back... and then the movie bored me to death :'D which was completely new for me, even if I had my nitpicks with the previous movies sometimes, they were never boring or outright BAD. Sometimes you just enjoy giant metal aliens shooting and kicking the shit out of each other :D
I honestly don’t care if Michael bay ruined transformers 5 and added random disepticons which I never heard about but I still like the movie

If they are going to reboot it or not, bay's transformers had so much potential especially after the third. The realistic looks on the transformers to the soundtrack. The transformer soundtrack has always been my favorite.
Throughout the transformers live action movies I wanted to see robots from the cartoons and for them to look like them, this is because it's what would have been cool and make me feel like deja vu almost. That's what I wanted to see more of.
What made me confused was that Bumblebee was apparently in WW2, but in his movie, he arrived in the hippie ages(roughly the 60s)
Bumblebee movie is reboot,differend universe than first 5 movies
Its incredibly apparent based on the editing that a LOT of content was cut to meet a shorter length. I think there was like 5 hours of footage. Unfortunately, all that cut footage explained Galvatron being found by Quintessa and going back to Megatron, the Bumblebee/Barricade fight, as well as other stuff we never got, like when Bee charged Prime and got slammed in that one trailer. If they just release all the cut footage on a blu ray, it would raise the film up a couple points, possibly save it from disaster. But i think that ship has sailed now 😕 i think all we wanted out of this was closure, and ended up getting a mess.

I saw videos in TH-cam with cuttet scenes and ppl said they didnt saw them originally,but I did in the theatger and was expecting to see Cybetron scenes of Galvatron or Barricade battle and such shit
@@ThatBalkanGuy. Some foreign theaters acrually showed The Last Knight with different takes of dialogue and scenes that werent used in the US, it was so bizarre. Idk whay happened, but i wish it was all just there for us

The thing that amazes me, is that it wasn't just a bad movie... it was a poor piece of film making. Even if you hated the first TF film, or hated Revenge of the Fallen through Age of Extinction, those films had some form of a beginning, middle, and end, you know.... like a typical movie does. This movie, had horrible editing, and the pacing was all over the place. What amazes me is, this was the movie that they hired a whole new team of writers, because TLK was supposed to start a Transformers Cinematic Universe, much like Marvel and DC. Even by Michael Bay standards, this film was a mess. Characters appearing in frame, then gone the next, or hyped up characters died instantly, or were completely forgotten about. So much dialogue that conflicted with the previous 4 films. And the marketing of Nemesis Prime. Many people say "Well it's Bay, what do you expect?" but... Bay is just one guy. Even if he's the director, there's hundreds of thousands of people that have a hand in making a movie. Why did the writers try to push King Arthur Knights....with World War 2?
This video is really good! I also am a hardcore Transformers fan and I was so disappointed after seeing this movie. I agree with all of your points and I do hope that paramount can make a comeback with good transformers films in the future.
The Transformers Dark of the Moon soundtrack from the game playing in the background, takes me back to simpler times.
I honestly thought the movie integrated history into present, somewhat comparable to revenge of the fallen. With my expectations set low by the fourth movie, I still think this one is good, except for the Cade sex-life part. But IDK, my standards for movies are usually low.

The lore the ideas that they had were actually pretty great! (Except for the continuity errors) but the thing is was the execution . The Last Knight fet like they wanted to set up the universe one movie . The Last Knight had potential to be a great movie but instead they rushed it . Look at the MCU they slowly set things up but what they did with transformers was the complete opposite . Optimus Prime well Nemesis Prime being the villain would've made an awesome character arc for both optimus and the autobots like how can the autobots deal with their new threat if the new threat is their own leader and all that . The last knight had a huge wasted potential

TF2- mishandled
TF3- sound conclusion to bayformers generation 1
TF4- improved designs, had interesting plot and villains, got right voice for mega/galvatron, gave characters personality
TF5- got megatron right, changed bumblebee back to TF3 version without explanation, over complicated messy plot, turn Optimus into an energon thirsty murderer
Eh, imo transformers 1 is still the best among the five bayverse films.
There are only three things about The Last Knight that is good: Megatron with Frank Welker finally reprising his role in a live action Transformers film, the soundtrack is glorious, and the final battle on Cybertron instead of a city in a fourth row is massive and entertaining.

a few moments of the last knight i thought were great fun:
hopkins flipping off the bird while cogman is driving him around in the streets
hopkins telling cogman to be quiet for trying to break out into song while hopkins gives exposition dump of story elements to the other characters
hopkins approaching ten downing street and being turned away by the security there like he is some kind of silly random, and then decides "well i'll just go in the other way then because no time to explain to those dolts the magnitude of the situation when the prime minister needs to be briefed on this immediately, plus don't they know i'm the last descendant of the long line of Witwikans"

I am a massive form of age of extinction it’s my all time favourite movie and the last knight didn’t continue the story it needed to and was as you said slow fast boring and interesting all at the same time. The first four movies all have a specific feel and style that makes them feel like one. While the last knight did not fit in what that feeling or style and even bumblebee was too far aswell

Such an informative video. Personally I hated TLK and also felt like it was vastly different in terms of style when compared to the older films, but I could never quite put my finger on why.
I was one of the people who obsessively followed the production of TLK through arun09345 on Instagram and saw many behind the scenes shootings of scenes that ended up not being in the film, which leads me to believe someone forced Bay to delete a lot of scenes for the film for some reason, but now it makes sense. I don't think Michael Bay is the perfect choice to direct a Transformers movie, but I can't deny the guy has a style no one can replicate and to see his vision being "dumbed down" so they can make a shorter movie. The idea is not bad, but it was executed very poorly. That could also explain the fact that there are different versions of the film with different dialogues and scenes, some extended and some shortened.
It feels like Michael Bay was done dirty, but we can't be sure the initial product was to be anything special considering the last couple of movies weren't anything to write home about.
At the end of the day, Michael Bay had his run with the Transformers franchise and how they would look and feel through his perspective, and no matter how much you love them or hate them, you can't deny that the action, the music, the special effects, the scale and scope of the stories he tried to tell were nothing short of spectacular and breathtaking to behold!

Also not really Desepticon action between Autobots fight scenes. Its just car chase and talking.
I loved the movies. I grew up with them. But... after they killed Ironhide the rest of DOTM had a bad aftertaste for me. And when TF 4 came out and Mirage/Dino and especially Sideswipe was nowhere to be found I...was...mad! I would be fine with losing my favorite two Autobots if they would have gotten an epic last fight against the humans before they die ON screen and don´t just disappear with no explanation behind the scenes. And the only thing I liked about TF 5 is the name Quintessa. The name, not the character. The entire movie was a mess. I miss the old times when I knew the movies were not perfect, but at least brought me joy watching them.
Death is inevitable. Many Autobots even got killed off in the original 1986 Transformers film.
They really should have stopped at dark of the moon. That was my favorite one. Aside from the first movie.

Just think about the main plot of movies 4-5: unknown aliens drop a bomb on dinosaurs and they become metal. Then Prime is almost killed by a human assault and his truck mode winds up in the hands of a mad engineer who revives him with the power of a car accumulator. Then they are assaultef again and Prime meets his friends: Bumblebee who just always miraculously reappears in any movie and 3 nonames who just couldn't arrive off-screen AGAIN. The bois go to attack a facility which recycles the metal dinos into a decepticon army. Megatron/Galvatron attacks Prime and almost defeats him w/o a fusion cannon (a feat Megatron couldn't achieve even in his upgraded rotf body, left alone as a human prototype). Prime puts his sword in a blender which happens to be in Galvatron's chest. Then Lockdown (who just happens to work for the aliens) captures Prime. Then Prime is saved by his gang, escapes and meets ancient super-transformers who turn into metal dinos. Prime finds a sword which somehow makes his forearms change into a knighty look. He fights the gigantic dino leader and defeats him through defying the laws of impulse and inertion (Prime just couldn't stop a huge, heavy creature charging at him and somehow remain where he stood). Then Prime and his friends kill an ARMY of mass-produced robots that were made to fight Prime or Bee toe to toe with the help of Dinobots who were weaker than Prime, as shown in previous scenes.
That Galvatron escapes and Prime kills Lockdown.
In the next movie, Prime meets yet another type of alien and is enslaved while the rest of his team searches for a macguffin together with an englush lord and his clockwork butler. Then Prime is redeemed, Megateon takes the macguffin, Prime kills a combiner and destroys the macguffin. Cybertron falls on Earth.
Missed story arcs: aliens and their agenda, the arrival of Drift, Crosshairs and Hound, the origin of dinos and Prime's miracle weapons, the whole Megatron and Galvatron thing, Quintessa and her knights, Primus an Unicron.
And lots of timeline and story logic problems.
Transformers went down hill the moment Optimus got a redesign.
Actually, Optimus Primes Knight loot is totally cool and there's no problem as long as it still fit in with the transformers toys.
I mean lets not pretend that continuity wasn’t broken before TLK. DOTM literally had the US government know about transformers separate from Sector 7.
