I think the coolest thing about Zhao, both in this show and in the animated version, is of course he's an antagonist for Team Avatar - but he's also an antagonist for *Zuko.* It's such a neat dynamic, and really sets Zuko up as someone who will go on a different journey than you expect.

PS: Momo is Japanese for peaches. He was found in a bag full of peaches lol. So you can technically say "Hi momo!" and you're saying your "Hi peaches!" xD

I love the live action Kyoshi’s make up, she looks great!
Kyoshi was INSANE for this. She came in like a goddamn fighter jet. That was like bringing a nuclear warhead to a parking lot brawl. She barely flicked her wrist and Zuko was out for the count. Girl wasn't even remotely in the ballpark of messing around, she came to FINISH the game and I could honestly watch an entire episode of her being 7ft tall and wrecking the fire nation soldiers. That's my kind of entertainment :D They did some meh stuff with this adaptation but they also did some really cool stuff and Kyoshi here was definitely one of them.
I demand bags of “Hey Peaches” immediately.

It makes me so happy to see Tamlyn Tomita playing the role of the leader of Kyoshi. I didn’t recognize her until I went back and watched again. She played Kumiko in Karate Kid Part II
She's also been a couple of series of Cobra Kai, (reprising Kumiko), which if you havent watched - you should!! 😁
I truly think they'll greenlight 2 and 3 and film them at the same time to not have to worry about more aging up. Also the actor playing Aang doesn't look much older now, he's just a little taller. So they'll have a time jump for sure, but I think it will only be a few months and instead of needing to defeat the firelord by the end of the summer, he has to beat him by the beginning of winter. I think it's reasonable to expect them to start filming by August, September at the latest.
That required them to be smart, they are not smart. The actor playing Aang will be about 25 when they finally comes around to filming season 3.
That’s what I was thinking when they said seasons 2 & 3 are coming. They’re going to take a much smaller break (if they take a break at all) between the next 2 seasons.
I don’t mind the time jump. TBH Aang looks a bit too young to comfortably pair romantically with Katara this season, but now that he’s almost her height it will be a lot less awkward if they decide to introduce Aang’s crush & the slow growth to their romantic relationship. Honestly hoping they keep the fire nation dance party.

Yangchen was actually even more of a hardass than Kiyoshi. She was SO good at her job, no one in the world even thought about a war for like, 100 years after her death. It's one of the reasons why Kuruk was something of a "slouch" - because everyone was too goddamn scared of Yangchen's ghost to cause too many problems.
@mikalero they both are ruthless no one is more ruthless than the others.Kyoshi already kill 3 people in her novels,fire nation soldiers.she even try to kill Prince chaejin fire lord zoryu step brother and her mom in the novels because they didn't want to tell her where they kept yun.Kyoshi also made balance and peace to the world for two centuries that's why roku can trained and master the elements and avatar state without any struggle and challenges thanks to kyoshi.

My dad watched this episode with me, and he pointed out to me that Katara’s “doing the wave” was actually her doing Tai Chi. I found that really cool, how they incorporated a real martial art as waterbending choreography.
Even in the original series, they hired a martial artist to help choreograph all the movements for each bending style. Water bending has always been Tai Chi.
Toph’s style is actually derived from a style of KungFu used by a real life blind monk, if I remember correctly.
This show is in my opinion giving Anng's responsibility more weight, yeah there isn't all the goofy fun side adventures but this way feels a bit more organic in a sense given his age and the situation of being the avatar in this situation. So many people are complaining that this isn't one to one with the animation but with only 8 episodes some condescending and continuity changes needed to happen and so far I'm loving how this has been done
I agree, I feel more connected to the characters in the live action and the goofy side adventures didn't always land for me in the original.
Why aren't people happy with this show? It's a fantastic and relatively faithful representation of the original - yes, it changes stuff, but who wants a 1:1 remake?? Compare this to what we got with the Halo TV series, which absolutely butchered the source material. It could have been a *lot* worse!
Definitely could have been a lot worse. But it's also got some major flaws, but I'm hopeful that if they get a season two, things can improve. I think at the core the most important thing is the chemistry between the characters and I think that's one of the strengths of the show...
My main gripe has been the sloppy dialogue/character work. Classic trap of telling not showing . Characters just directly confess all their feelings and motivations and it feels very awkward. It feels like the writers just didn't trust the audience to do any work themselves and just spoon feeds everything explicitly to the audience.
But very fixable! I'm hopeful that they can fix this in season 2. I'm certainly hopeful enough that I hope they get a second season.
I absolutely agree, I really can't see where is all this hate comming from, I'm an absolute fan of the original and I enjoyed every second of the remake (except Yue, I didn't like Yue)

@@Nomadic813 I get it, that as you seem to be someone who knows a lot about the Last Airbender, you don't need to be spoon fed every character's feelings and motivations, but (and I would hope this is the intention of the show's producers), not every one is familiar with the source material or any previous adaptations, so you have to allow for the fact, that they're possibly hoping for a portion of the viewing audience of this live action adaptation, to be complete newcomers to the story - like myself. 😁 I'm really enjoying it!!

We don't know a ton about Kyoshi? The 2 books on her: Rise and Legacy are shedding tears when you said that. The Yangchen (the previous airbender avatar) books are also a thing as well. And they've been out for a few years at this point, I think.
While true, those are outside of the show, so Most people know nothing about them.

While I wish it was super faithful to the show in having Roku be the first former Avatar to take over Aang’s body I am happy with the change to Kyoshi as a) she’s awesome, b) we probably won’t get an episode that features her trial, c) she’s ruthless. But lowkey imagine the look on all the Fire Nation soldiers if they saw ROKU protecting an earth kingdom village.

I literally talk about warriors of virtue all the time. At 1 point in time, my stepfather found a trunk full of toys and in that trunk. Was a complete set of the warriors of virtue action figures. And I just need to say that I feel so seen Hearing one of my favorite content creators, Jay, mention that movie. When the movie forbidden Kingdom came out with Jackie Chan and jet Li. I would tell people "hey this kind of reminds me of warriors of virtue" about the same concept. Thank you Jay For making me feel not so alone anymore.

Sokka with the fan was cool but i wish they weren't afraid to have sokka dress up in the garb , and while suki is a designated love interest having to humble herself to make sokkas confidence feel better instead of him learning actual humility ,but i love this suki , and the little moment where she doesnt undwrstand she went too far was cute not scary as it could be , because she also learns from him , but dont know why the show runners are so afraid to have anything "woke" with the garb or sexism

These actors are all gonna age so in this case you have to make certain changes and plus its more realistic.
Yes! People also don't realise filming started for this in 2021. It's already been years, the actors have already aged. I think I heard if the next season gets greenlit, they want to film both season 2 & 3 at once so that the postproduction doesn't allow for more aging in between so they can introduce the time frames ect.

I really enjoyed the absolute hugeness of Kyoshi in this.
adam is the only reacter i've seen give a nod to tamlyn "kumiko" tomita. and that's even with reacters who i know have watched cobra kai. recently, she's also in the monarch tv show. i'm glad she's gotten more roles lately. her fighting with the fans is a good callback to her bone dance in kk2.

Fun Fact: Yukari, the mayor? of Kyoshi Island and Suki's mom is played by Tamlyn Tomita, if she looks familiar that's because she also playd Kumiko in The Karate Kid 2 =)
Suki's mom also played the Vulcan Commodore in the first season of Star Trek Picard, she's brilliant. But I love this characterization of Suki, and they NAILED Kyoshi. Not only super tall and intimidating, but RUTHLESS. They also just barely scratched the surface of her background, a nice easter egg from the Kyoshi novels.

Since it’s the “hey peaches” flavor, how about a peaches and cream flavor, or a peach cobbler flavor, since I’m pretty sure they have a strawberries and cream flavor, and a Caramel apple one, so apple pie flavor, peach cobbler, and peaches and cream are well within do-ability based on their current lineup.

I think the thing that frustrates me most about this show is that it’s just ok, whereas the original is immaculate by comparison, but many will just watch this and feel like they can skip the original.
