For a show that is a spin off of a movie that takes place during the rainy nights, the amount of torture that takes place in broad daylight is SUCH an incredible artistic choice.
Legit can't believe that a comment in this thread has a bunch of likes saying Batman has the criminals shook where if you actually watched the episode. You'll see the criminals ain't shook, penguin busted at Alberto, at night, meanwhile continued to move the body, then busted at people trying to steal his rims. Meanwhile you see newspaper clippings in the city that explicitly say that the Batman has been missing for a few days which if you remember what happened at the end of the movie you'll remember Batman was in pretty bad shape. He actually had to inject himself with something just to give him a fighting edge. It's gonna actually take time for him to recover.

Same go to the upcoming Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again (March 2025/Disney +) being discontinued from the movie series with popular characters like Batman and Spiderman to be feature in neither shows to boost viewing. I'm aware that this show is built up toward Batman 2 (2026), but I like Colin's Penguin and his acting in Batman (2022). Since Matt Reeves and his team are going for self-centred with the Penguin as the main character and his backstory in the Batman's World building and loosely comic based on Penguin's biography and reference in DC Elseworld label. Also, I think Matt mentioned the show is inspired by the classic HBO show and other gangster/crime drama from movies and tv to give it identity and other Batman Comics or the Penguin solo comics. On Marvel Television, the head of the show and EP, mentioned DB: Born Again is continuing with Neflix's aesthetics from DB (2015 - 2019) and storytelling from the show with season 3 for the adult audience and the reason why is put Marvel Television label so that I don't need to watched the movies from MCU phrases and the 2003 film version of the character. Plus, the Neflix team of the show was inspired from other crime drama, action and legal from other shows and the comic of DB. This decision came after the creative overhaul of DB: Again Born last year (2023), but some directors would be feature in the upcoming alongside the new ones. Daredevil may be featured in the Spiderman: Freshman Years (animation shows). Hopefully, I would like this practice of self-centred to continuing for other unknown or mild popular for netural, antiheroes and villians characters for adult only with compelling storytelling, gritty and ground character driven in both DC and Marvel in their futures streaming shows (live action only) without attached to the film series and without popular characters to attached in order to know from where to where.

He's like the opposite of Kingpin. Whereas Fisk controls from above by being imposing, Oswald controls from below by playing a supplicant. He walks the tightrope of telling everyone just enough of what they want to hear, but using that subtle manipulation to get what he wants or wriggle out from under their thumb. He's ambitious and he can be menacing when he needs to be, but he's also smart enough to know that menacing only goes so far and can cause more trouble that it solves. He's constantly nervous and on edge, expecting the other shoe to drop. He's scared, but that keeps him on his toes (no pun intended) and ready to dodge. He's always got a parachute to bail out. He's wiley. And Colin Farrell completely disappears into the role. This show is better by not having Batman, just like Caped Crusader was better by not having Joker (at least for one season)
It was so good. Colin Farrell is so believable as this character and for someone who’s always considered him as one of the best looking actors out there it’s a shock to not even see him at all. From the accent, mannerisms and appearance he owns this role. Loved Sofia too- she’s mesmerizing. Can’t wait for the next episode!
Loving that we're getting a little bit of Dark Victory in this. For those who dont know, it's the sequel to Long Halloween and features a serial killer known as the Hangman, who turned out to be Sofia Falcone. I'm glad that that's being acknowledged
I know my comment won’t totally relate to yours but it got me excited for how they could execute certain villains in the Matt Reeves universe. I heard they were gonna explore winter in Gotham in the Batman 2 so I could see Mr. Freeze being a murderer using the cold and snow to cover up his crimes, idk lol.
That's exactly what I was thinking too. I had to wonder if Vic was a nod to Jason and if Vic had become Oz's "Robin." If that's the case, does that mean we also know Vic's fate?

I just love how you can *feel* the sister is crazy in everything she does, but I also feel like she doesn't want to be crazy, unlike a lot of villains that just revel in the madness. She has the self-control of a very determined time bomb, and that's terrifying. And Cristin Milioti (had to google it) absolutely nail every part. And of course, Collin Farrell is excellent.
I was at the San Diego Comic Con panel for this, and it was the best panel of the whole week for me. Colin dialled in from Manila but he just beamed as the rest of the crew talked, you could tell that he loved the character and what the makeup let him do. The footage they showed was superb, and I hope they do a series after each Batman film showing how Oswald has to adjust to each new change in Gotham after Bruce wrecks shop...
Matt Reeves said the reason why they didn’t put Batman in the show is bc they wanted to make him feel like an omnipresent figure lurking around in the background. Like we won’t see him directly but we KNOW he’s out there…somewhere
The way Sophia eats is very accurate to how I have personally witnessed some people eat who used to be in a place where they either ate the little they were given as soon as it was in front of them, or someone bigger and stronger would take it from them. I literally did not even find it unusual she eats that way.
I love that Oz is constantly looking for approvable from others, proof of status. Like when he asks Vic what he thinks of the air freshener. He wants ppl to validate his choices and his prove his power to him. It's really nuanced

Rhenzy Feliz was in Runaways. The one ABC Studios produced Marvel Television show NOT on D+. They even took it off of Hulu. Also, good show for all its teen drama cheese. I really hope the MCU brings those characters back, among others. Especially now that Ultron is confirmed to return for the Vision series and the finale teased Victor Mancha, Vision's robo brother.

This show reminds me of Andor. For both my initial thought was why does this character need a show. Then after one or two episodes I was oh, that is why. Plus we got an I'm Clem joke.

It’s not always the biggest guy in the room or the strongest guy in the room is the eyes there’s something behind her eyes I wouldn’t be comfortable sitting across the table from her. she has a sense of awareness. I don’t think you could lie to her.
the penguin takes place a week after the batman and the batman part 2 will take place a week after the end of penguin. Everything basically happens within a month as the batman ends on the beginning of November and matt reeves confirmed that part 2 is during winter
i've always found the scariest villains to be the ones who are the quietest in the room - Sofia has that. loving it. loving the Oswald and Victor vibe as well. i wondered if this was the beginnings of Victor eventually becoming "Zsasz" but i doubt it. nice to play around with though.
Penguin should be a relatable character, he’s at his best when the audience can respect him. Yeah, he’s still the bad guy…But he’s a man walking sideways in a crooked town. Even Danny DeVito’s Penguin was a charismatic and relatable villain. It’s what the character should be known for. He also pitches the dark side as hard as Jay does lol.
Arkham Penguin, Caped Crusader Penguin and Earth One Penguin are exceptions. They are utterly detestable monsters, but every other version of the character was indeed relatable as you described!

I mean they are compelling threats that are fun to watch get thwarted, but because they lack that important nuance they risk being remembered as a villain of the week instead of the mobster the people of GC would demand be released, because he’s the one that payed for their kids school. That’s the penguin that’s the hardest for Batman to fight.
Colin obviously but cristin is so great. Knew she would be cause she was great in Fargo and everything she’s done. But she’s def a diff type in this and she’s nailing it.
The Batman and Dark Knight Trilogy often get sorted into the grimdark and edgy bin, but they both have sneaky senses of humor. I think this show has that in spades, but never to the point that it takes you out of the intensity. I was charmed by it too, and by Oz!

It’s not always the biggest guy in the room or the strongest guy in the room is the eyes there’s something behind her eyes I wouldn’t be comfortable sitting across the table from her. she has a sense of awareness. I don’t think you could lie to her.

the penguin takes place a week after the batman and the batman part 2 will take place a week after the end of penguin. Everything basically happens within a month as the batman ends on the beginning of November and matt reeves confirmed that part 2 is during winter
It’s a fantastic first episode. Top performances from Colin and the Cristin . And I think I could save Sophia.

Penguin had a "Robin" that was named Chick. Vic's last name means Eagle. Vic is Chick.
i've always found the scariest villains to be the ones who are the quietest in the room - Sofia has that. loving it.
loving the Oswald and Victor vibe as well. i wondered if this was the beginnings of Victor eventually becoming "Zsasz" but i doubt it. nice to play around with though.

Penguin should be a relatable character, he’s at his best when the audience can respect him. Yeah, he’s still the bad guy…But he’s a man walking sideways in a crooked town. Even Danny DeVito’s Penguin was a charismatic and relatable villain. It’s what the character should be known for.
He also pitches the dark side as hard as Jay does lol.
Arkham Penguin, Caped Crusader Penguin and Earth One Penguin are exceptions. They are utterly detestable monsters, but every other version of the character was indeed relatable as you described!
That’s true@@bramijdema759, but that’s honestly why those exceptions aren’t as good. I mean they are compelling threats that are fun to watch get thwarted, but because they lack that important nuance they risk being remembered as a villain of the week instead of the mobster the people of GC would demand be released, because he’s the one that payed for their kids school. That’s the penguin that’s the hardest for Batman to fight.
Colin obviously but cristin is so great. Knew she would be cause she was great in Fargo and everything she’s done. But she’s def a diff type in this and she’s nailing it.
In the intro I was totally expecting Adam to say “I’mmmmm Batman!” 😂🤷🏻♂️ ah well lol 🫶🏻
The Batman and Dark Knight Trilogy often get sorted into the grimdark and edgy bin, but they both have sneaky senses of humor. I think this show has that in spades, but never to the point that it takes you out of the intensity. I was charmed by it too, and by Oz!
