    Your thoughts make perfect sense to many riders, and not just new riders. The 150 miles per gallon is also great, although the little engine is very limited on longer journeys, as it's pretty much revving it's nuts off and fit to explode at speeds much over 50. Holding that speed for 50 miles along an A road would kill it very quickly, so makes a longer journey a looong journey. I love mine though for all of the faults that might happen, or might not 👍

    I'm 47, and thinking of getting a 125 in the next year and a half, and my mother is still trying discourage me. I had a bike as a teen; just rode off road, never got a licence. The wife to, isn't very keen either.
    Both my dad and brother ride Triumph Tigers (800 & 1200 respectively).
    I cant wait to get one. Considering this very model for the time being. But, I know I'll want a bigger bike. I've had my eye on the Triumph Street Twin myself, for my "big" bike. Though the Scrambler 400x looks lovely. More than powerful enough for my 70kgs. I guess for now, I'll have to live vicariously through these videos.
    Thanks

      How'd you get on? Bought a 125?

    When I moved over to Brittany I bought a Honda Shadow 125. I've had it now since 2006.
    A few years later I bought a Honda 750 . I loved the look, a cafe racer'ed 1975 in mint condition.
    It was a nightmare around the little country roads in France. I realised why so many people stick to small capacity bikes.
    I'm now looking at buying a Yamaha XSR 125 for that better torque and classic lines. Won't sell the Honda though 😁
    Oh, and in the current economic situation the fuel economy may be a life saver.

    Came across one of these on Autotrader, never heard of them before. Like you I'll be new to motorbiking so don't want to spend a lot on my first bike as I like the Royal Enfield Meteor and would aim to get on one of these as soon as possible. However, it's the retro look of the Herald that appeals, as I think 125s generally look more youthful, which as I approach my half century, I'd look out of place on. Had a chuckle at the "don't tell Mum" comments, you're never too old for that look of disapproval 🤣

    • @thra5herxb12s
      @thra5herxb12s ปีที่แล้ว

      The Enfield Meteor isn't such a great bike. Many people sell them with a few hundred miles on the clocks, but at least the clocks on them actually read in miles, and you can also get all the parts if anything goes wrong. The Heralds however dont have a single part available except for the for sets of Yamaha brake pads, Suzuki oil filters, and Honda sprockets that fit. I bought my Herald because of the retro looks, but I know it might not last long.

      @@thra5herxb12s I expect by the time I'm licensed, enough time will have passed to see how the RE stands up for reliability. I'm more tempted to go for the 650 range now though. Surprising that Herald parts are hard to come by , as a British company they need to be readily available and reliable to build up a good reputation. I believe they are starting to build in house and rely less on Chinese manufacturing. What's important though is that you like what you ride .

      @TheBikingActor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Daniel. I’ve had mine since 2017 and I love it. No major issues other than the ones mentioned on one of my videos, but that was down to a spark plug issue and a key ignition switch. Great value motorcycle. Very cheap to run. As an entry level bike, which it is for me, it’s enough to keep me entertained and gain my enthusiasm for getting a bigger bike in the future. Would recommend

    Really useful video thanks. Any idea on the seat height of the Classic? Is it potentially too small for someone around 6ft?

    • @TheBikingActor
      @TheBikingActor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I’m not sure about the seat height but I’m 6ft and it was a very comfortable bike. It has a bench seat too which means as a larger rider you could always sit a little further back on the seat. That’ll help.

    The Herald 125 is one i have never come across i assume it a Chinese bike, and i was wondering what sort of mileage you have done and have you had many probs of any kind with it,i keep being told to steer away for the Chinese bike and stick to the more well-known brands like Suzuki or Honda, but they are considerably more expensive ,yes loved your video sound was ok.

    • @TheBikingActor
      @TheBikingActor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Peter. I’m no expert at all and I have no affiliation to Herald but I get the impression that all these bikes are pretty much the same Chinese Import. Herald, Mutt etc. They then add their own branding over here and sell them as their own. Mutt and Herald used to work together at one time which is maybe why you can pick up an old Herald Mutt! Herald also import the more known Bristol 400cc, famous in the Philippines and market it as their Cafè/Classic 400. I thoroughly enjoyed my 125 as it was the perfect bike to learn on and tinker with. I had some minor issues (there’s a video on it) but Yes, I would recommend them. I maybe wrong but I have a memory that it was based around or with a Suzuki engine. I’d recommend checking out the Lexmoto Tempest. It’s cheaper than the others but looks and sounds amazing. Let me know how you get on.

    Very informative vid for me thank you. I like the way your decisions were based on what you wanted from a motorcycle and were not swayed by ‘bike status’. Your conclusions and choice are mine. Two questions if you don’t mind. Could you please identify the helmet camera and the mobile phone mount. TIA.

    • @TheBikingActor
      @TheBikingActor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David. Glad you enjoyed the video. Ok so there’s a bit of editing going on here. There were 2 rides, one wearing a chest mounted camera to get the front shots and a second ride with the camera looking back at the rider. So there’s no helmet camera. What you can see there is a Cardio Scala Rider Pack Talk unit. The phone holder unit on the handlebars no longer exists. Just checked my Amazon account and the link no longer works. It was basically a bicycle phone holder bought back in 2018. I’m sure there are better options out there now. Stay safe.

    Hi Mate im on the fence about it soncouple questions if you dont mind? Had a Chineese bike before and it was unreliable to say the least, whats the maintenance on it like/ is it reliable? And does it do well at 50-60mph for extended periods?

    • @TheBikingActor
      @TheBikingActor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sam. I absolutely loved my Herald 125. Actually I just sold mine last week after owning it for 4 years (time to upgrade). This was the first bike I’ve ever owned so everything was a learning curve. Sure I had some issues. On the way to my MOD 2 the bike just died on a busy dual carriageway: due to a spark plug issue. This was a reoccurring problem (with the Euro 3 model). Also the battery would often go flat, as if there was an electrical drain somewhere. Plus the key ignition went faulty. That said, it was an awesome bike to learn on. I learnt to fix and play around on it, and once you know where the issues are there’s little that can go wrong. I believe the Euro 3 is faster than the newer models. 50mph was very comfortable. It would do 70mph but you wouldn’t want to sit at that speed for too long. It would shake and rattle a bit and your teeth could fall out! Great first bike though. Good luck.

      Hi Martin. As far as I’m aware they have recommended dealers around the UK who will sell and service their bikes so you’ll probably never need to contact the Head Office. That said they do offer parts on the website and they’ve always been quick and sending these out. Why not give them a buzz. They’ve always been very helpful to me and will definitely give you more accurate info. 😊
