In my experience your stitch is all about training, mileage and confidence. It’s an anxiety reaction. If you are fully, totally trained and ready for the distance and the speed you will be confident and you won’t be so anxious, you won’t panic or stress about the race before or during. I think, like cramps, it’s far less to do with what you’re eating and electrolytes and much more to do with being trained and ready. Well done. You’ll smash it next time.

I genuinely don’t think for me it came down to race anxiety, as I was feeling quite good mindset-wise! my coach and I believe it’s moreso something to do with my diaphragm!

Liz, we all learn from every marathon it more if we care to think of it! That's so interesting about charity places. We can't change our pasts but can change the future. So my suggestion don't be disappointed learn and plan for your future! Well done on your marathon that's still a good time Liz

my last marathon was a 3:32, so from my coach’s & I’s perspective it made sense to target 10 minutes faster rather than 2 - but thanks!

Sometimes things just don't go according to plan but I'm sure you'll keep your chin up and press on. Your time of 3:39 is still way above average. Most men don't even break 4 hours. I'm sure you'll get close to that 3:20 time at some point. 😄👍

Congrats!!! For stitches a shot of pickle juice helps (you can look at different scientific studies that show this)
