The guy from Farham Running Club is bang on fella, you probably don't realise how many people you inspire with the relatable content you create !! Far too many YouToobers making running videos about sub 3hrs which is out of reach for most of the population. Us 'normal' runners who put in so much effort generally go unnoticed and you make everyone noticed... 👏
Congrats again on the massive PB ! See you at the Cardiff Half and we'll both be smashing that 3:30 at Valencia !
Oh and you are welcome back to Tredegar House pakrun for coffee anytime :)
Gotta totally agree there worthy of a pinned comment :P, Andy's progress is totally inspiring to me. Ever since watching his Stafford Half marathon video a couple of years ago. The work he puts into this, and the joy of the PBs, big or small. Totally worth it. Even when not, seeing the positives in the work he puts in. I think it was Andy Raynor said, that a marathon starts 12/16 weeks before hand, when the training starts. It most certainly does.
Spot on - Andy you are the running TH-camr who inspires me the most. I am a similarly paced runner and seeing what you achieve with hard work and a big heart is so relatable. Even if I am a bit annoyed that I got 3:45 at Brighton this year (it was a hot day to be fair) so need to get back out there and try for 3:30 something! Manchester 2025 here we come…
Mate it was awesome to hang out with you and well done for your run. See you in España if not before!❤️
Well done Andy, really chuffed for you. That work you put in paid off and just shows you what you can achieve. Good on Brett for coming down to support you! True friend. I hope those drinks went down well. I believe Birmingham is next on your hit list... step on that peddle! :)
Well done Andy , guy at the end was spot on , you inspire so many of us runners out there, and I’ve got to say Brett seems like a really top bloke and true friend , keep up the good work 👍
He's such a dude and definitely inspires me so much. Thanks so much ❤️
I signed up for Newport marathon (local to me) months back and put together 5 months of training, aiming for a 2:53. April rolled up, got hurt through overtraining and could never shake the discomfort and ended up not racing. Gutted doesn't quite cover it for me.
Grateful to have followed your journey up to this point and your brilliant marathon PB at the end of it-and to see what it was like during the race! What shone through to me was your appreciation of everyone else out there which is what it is all about. You're a true runner and can't wait to see how you improve from here. You show me how important it is to be positive and be more in the moment, I will try to be more like this in my rebuild. Thrilled for you and the result you got, and keep in mind that you're an inspiring runner and person 🏆
That's so nice of you to say ❤️ Hope that you come back better and stronger 😎
Well done. Great video ❤ The course was 300m-400m long so this was definitely a sub 3h35m (and no I don't mean GPS error).
Im sure people tracking you on the R4W noticed the discrepancies in the pacing on the splits from the timing mats, they were also mis-measured which explains the variability.
But also mile 23 was an "extra long" mile. My watch was buzzing shortly before every mile marker... Until mile 24 which didn't come until 24.35 miles on the watch!
The 3 hour came in at 3h 2m and was saying the course was long (thrown off by the long 'mile'). The 3h15m pacer was over also... Didn't see any other pacers come in but I'd be willing to bet they were over also!
I ran the old course in 2023 and my watch clocked 26.35 miles because there are no GPS issues in the countryside (unlike London/Manchester where large buildings cause GPS error)... Used the same watch this year and came in at 26.55 miles... The course was 300m-400m long!! Hopefully the organisers admit their mistake and adjust times down.
Ah, this explains a lot. I was worried when everyone suddenly seemed to have sped up at Mile 10 (if I remember correctly). Thought Andy had suddenly been inspired to try a mid-marathon 5K PB!
Incredible, Andy. Such a strong and consistent performance that you must be extremely proud of and excited by. Relative to most, you’re still early into your running journey and I can only imagine what heights await. Congratulations!
Awesome run 👏
Great video and fantastic to see Brett, Rachel, Rory & Rich too.
Thank you!❤️
Congrats Andy. Very very similar paced runner here, been following your running since Manchester last year having run it as well (a couple of shots of me in your vlog). Negative split was ballsy - I went the other way at Manchester this year, going past the pacer early doors then holding on for dear life! Glad you’re happy with the outcome this year as well - I’ve probably watched your Manchester vid about 4 times and it’s always a little heartbreaking how down you were despite a MASSIVE PB. So pleased that you’re pleased with this, and that you got so much love from the amazing running community on the day. Look forward to following you into the next challenge!
Incredible to watch mate. Everything the chap said after the race is so true. A brilliant run for you and I'm so chuffed for you ⭐👏👏👏
Thanks so much Dean.❤️
Mighty impressive Andy! Congrats on the hard work and grabbing that PR!
well done Budd, epic results, had a little tear in my eye for you when came over the line...
Brilliant. Such joy at a well executed marathon. You set off sensibly and just faded a little at the end but no crash and burn as previously. Bring on Valencia.
Thanks so much both.x
Incredible stuff mate. Congrats on a huge PB, no walking, and a great video 💪🏃♂️💨👍🏻
❤️❤️❤️
WAHAY! Well done Andy, really looking forward to how you go forward to Valencia! Great approach to Newport, that is some amount of time off your PB, Sub 3.30 next surely, SURELY! Congratulations again, you'll be high for ages.
Great running Andy, well done on the PB, I'm sure it's only a matter of time till you smash 3.30. What a legend Brett is too for surprising you, everyone should have a friend like him 👍👍
He's a diamond isn't he ❤️
Congratulations mate. Monumental effort to beat your PB by that much! Running the whole way is mega too!
Fantastic running no matter way you cut it!! Well done Andy. 3.30 is still on Andy!!!
Cheers mate - onto the next one 🙌🏻
Wow 11 minute PB top effort. Well done. Missed you in Newport but may catch you in Valencia. Hopefully we can hit are A goals there. 👍
11 min PB 🎉 Well done Andy - that's brilliant - and all the more satisfying that you felt more comfortable in the later stages - really enjoyed watching the series each week - great production quality and always love when Daisy makes a cameo 👍
Well done Andy, smashed it mate!
That high street section with the shoppers looked mental!
😂😂😂
Great video Andy and well done again on your PB 👏
Massive well done to Brett for travelling over to support you - the guys a hero 😊
Really pleased you’re running Valencia and hope we eventually get to meet up as I’ll be going for my sub 4 there as part of my 3year plan 😎
Paul
Thanks Paul - and yes it'd be great to see you out there!❤️
Really inspiring Andy, love the line and I’ve not walked a single step… well done on truly running a marathon and absolutely smashing it!! 4 weeks till my marathon and you’ve given the motivation to push through peak weeks just as I’m struggling. Thanks for the channel really looking forward to the Valencia block 👍🏻
❤️❤️❤️
Well done Andy 🎉🎉🎉🎉!!!!💪🏻
A slightly positive split and when you're holding on at the closing stages is a sign a pretty well timed race effort. You raced well and trained very well and got a big PB. Very well done.
You can go a lot lower than this too. You've got a good basis to absolutely smash another one. I look forward to following the next steps.
Thank you, I can't wait for the next one already ❤️
Great run Andy - congratulations on the PB, really happy for you. You look to have had the better of the weather that day to my flat marathon in "sunny" Boston (can't put in words how bad the weather was, but there wasn't a 10 minute stretch my feet were not totally submerged out on the course once out of the town). I managed a 30 minute PB as well, in no small part thanks to your channel/Strava giving me motivation. I'm intrigued as to what your nutrition was on the course? I managed to get through 11 gels with electrolytes (22g each) until mile 20 (every 15 or so minutes to try to hit that 60-90g/hour mark) when my hands froze and wouldn't open so I gave up trying to get into my pocket in the last 3-4 miles - I really think this helped me keep pace the whole way, I only had 7 in a 20 mile race in March and had to run/walk the last 2 miles.
Well done Andy! Now I have to go and improve my PB as well dang it 🤣
An absolutely beuatiful video, we are so proud of what you have achieved so far and still so much more to come, top effort mate 🔥🔥
Thanks so much - can't wait for the next few months and races.❤️
Made up for you !! Great run even without hitting the 3:30. So many positives to take into the next one. The camaraderie between you and Brett is lovely to see. It really does mean a lot to have people supporting you ❤️
Thanks Vicky ❤️
Inspiring mate. So much improvement from Manchester, not just physically but your mental outlook throughout the race despite not hitting your A goal. Well done mate, on to Valencia!
❤️❤️❤️
You left it all out there Andy . Massive pb to build on . Great to see you after the race and congratulations.
Well done Andy! Been following your journey. Congrats on the PB.
❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant Andy well done on the P.B! Brett is a legend coming to cheer you on 😊 Bring on Valencia!
Massive congrats on the Pb, well deserved!
Great to come across you out on course, after watching so many of your videos over the past months it was like bumping into a celebrity 😂
Great video as always and I have indeed been inspired watching them over my marathon journey!
❤️❤️❤️ Nice one Carl 😎
I've been waiting for this episode for days, trying not to give into the temptation of looking at your strava. Great run, Andy! Not getting the 3:30 just means there's a clear target for next time. Had me saying "Go on, lad!" alone in a room to my computer.
I couldn’t resist. But I forgot Andy’s surname! Ended up seeing his race number from York on his profile pic and finding his surname that way 😂😂
Hahaha thanks for cheering me on! ❤️
Great run and great video, well done Andy! I grew up in Newport and used to do a lot of cycling around those village lanes, it was lovely to see them again. Now that I do a bit of running, your video has inspired me to add Newport marathon to the to-do list :)
Great work Andy, and 100% agree with that dude from down South, absolute inspiration. Looking forward to the next adventure
Awesome Andy, fantastic performance. The runner from Fareham nails it. You inspire more than you think with your content as most of us can relate to it compared to other youtubers (who are still great) that are 2.30 marathon runners.
I'm also heading out to Valencia, aiming for a similar time as yourself. The first 4-5k Valencia is very congested so the start can be a little slower which may actually help.
Hopefully there's meet up out there, and we can all get out a shakeout before the big dance.
Absolutely fantastic effort Andy. Amazing performance.
You are an inspiration pal.
Keep up the great work
❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant running Andy. Belfast for me on Sunday your videos give me a laugh and inspire me at the same time.
Congratulations on the PB Andy, saw you twice on the course during the out and backs sitting slightly behind the 3:30 group, you looked strong and in control, great to discover you held on for a really good time. I was pleased with my day too, also a PB and comfortably sub-4, which has taken years and umpteen marathons to achieve 😅 Recover well and good luck with your next challenge 👍
Nice one Nick, huge congrats on sub 4 ❤️
Great running mate!! Lovely stuff.
Amazing Andy well done!! Completely agree with the guy from Fareham Running Club, keep doing what you do, you're inspirational.
Great run and a great video 👍
Its on Andrew!! Great vibes, viewing pre Sunday long run.
😂😂😂 Cheers mate ❤️
Huge Congratulations Andy, enjoy the recovery, may see you in Brum on Sunday? Excited to see you're next build to the epic event that is Valencia 💪
Well done Andy 👏. Saw you out there and wondered if you caught the pacer. Great 👌effort. I'm no expert, but I personally think negative splits in marathons are highly unlikely for the majority of us. I've tried and failed! I tend to aim to get to 20 strong and hang on from there, but expect some fade. I got a PB too, but also didn't quite achieve the goal time, so my plan didn't really work either!
The closest that I have ever managed was on my PB at Amsterdam last year with a 1:34:24 first half and a 1:36:07 second half (3:10:31). By far the best that I have ever paced one in now 23 attempts (with a handful run only purely for fun or training exercises). Yes Marathons are flippin' tough and getting a negative split in a PB attempt even tougher!!
50 years old and Type 1 Diabetic, Amsterdam last year was a big ask and got myself a 14 minute 29 secs Boston Qualifier after missing out in the final cut by 77 seconds with the approx 4 and a half minute qualifier that I ran in Copenhagen for 2024 Boston Qualification). It is going to be tough to hang in long enough to give it a go on a quick flat course but I am not giving up on running another PB and pushing my time down closer towards being able to have a crack at Sub 3 just yet.
Congrats on your PB in Newport. It looks like a nice course and good event.
Well done on your marathon, they really are so tough aren't they. Thanks 😎
Woooooo, that was amazing! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
❤️❤️❤️
Loved it, got Marathon fomo again watching. You looked quite fresh at the end to be honest. Valencia defo on for sub 3:30. Not sure I’m sold doing Newport though, those really narrow out and back parts looked a bit too cramped for me!
Yeah mate it wasn't the best, especially the loop section from mile 8-22. Valencia baby 😎❤️
Bloody love this! And Brett is awesome what a legend!
Well done mate. That stretch from the end of the second loop over to the bridge was absolute hell. Felt like the longest miles of my life! Congrats on the PB brother
Cheers Dan - well done to you ❤️
Very solid performance, I believe you paced that pretty much perfectly couldn't have gone any quicker, and 11 min PB is incredible well done
Cheers Ric!❤️
Brilliant Andy! Congratulations. Really chuffed for you 👍
Well done mate brilliant👍👌👊
Amazing time! We used to be time twins and you have left me for dust now 😂 Also love to see how many people are cheering you on and how many people you know in the running community now. That’s way more important than any time 🙌🏼
Thank you! It's the most amazing feeling ❤️❤️❤️
Great video Andy. Well done on your huge PB. It feels great when you complete a marathon without hitting the wall doesn’t it? I’m sure you will smash 3:30 at Valencia!
Well done to you mate and great to meet you beforehand ❤️
You went for it and that's the main thing. Congratulations man, a massive effort and a well-deserved PB. It's been a joy watching your videos 🙂
Thanks so much ❤️
Well done Andy! Awesome PB. Great run.

Well done Andy, fantastic result, all your hard work paid off. So pleased for you, what a star.
Thanks Debbie x
Fantastic job mate, glad you enjoyed it. I did it last year. Not quite as quick as you though. Regroup and get ready for Valencia. It's on Andy !!!
Nice one Steve - can't wait for Valencia!
LEGEND!! Very well done, Mega congrats 🙂
Thank you!
Brilliant, well done Andy!
❤️❤️❤️
Great work Andy!!
❤️❤️❤️
Excellent Andy, well done!
❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations Andy. As one of the runners said in your video - it's so true that you inspire with your positivity even when going gets tough. I blew my first Manchester Marathon this year. Targeted 3:30 but had huge cramps and ended up at around 4 hours. I will go on, on and on... Will take some inspiration from you...
Thank you so much.x
Great video and awesome result mate. You really do inspire. I would never have entered this marathon without getting dragged along with your journey. Thank you and keep it going Andy!
❤️❤️❤️ Thanks mate 😎
Smashed it dude! A run to remember for all the right reasons and you looked insanely strong throughout!
Not only are you a great runner, but a great human being too and as many have already alluded to your channel, content and general positivity is a great motivator for us all so thankyou!
The question is, what’s next!?
Thanks mate ❤️❤️❤️ 2 castles on Sunday! Hope you're well my man.x
Well done, Andy. Great video
Thanks Dannii ❤️❤️❤️
Well done Andy, great video as usual. Big effort on the day and some serious work in the build up - Congrats mate. Big up to Brett too, what a top bloke.
Thanks so much ❤️
Very proud of you Andy - smashed it! Well done
❤️❤️❤️
Great to meet you at the end andy.
Keep inspiring the community
❤
You the man. Please keep in touch and let me know about Boston ❤️
Awesome run, the run to the end gave me goosebumps 😂😎💪👍
❤️❤️❤️
Well done once again. Been looking forward to watching this video all week. Fantastic run 💪 and like I said on your Strava, get another good training session under your belt and go for that Sub 3:30 target again in Valencia (don't get greedy but stick with the plan) and I think that you could end up shaving another 11+ minutes off your time 🙂 Great work!!
Thanks mate, can't wait for Valencia!
Well done Andy!🥳
😎😎😎❤️
Great vid and series as always mate. Hyped for you getting the PB. You will smash Valencia 🤟🤟
Cheers Ste!
Well done Andy on your pb! Just love your channel..totally agree with what the guy from the running club said I got a lump in my throat for you..hope you and Laura had a lovely weekend 🙂
Thanks Jill ❤️❤️❤️
COME ON Andy so great running I was screaming Come On Andy the last 2 kms for You so damned amazing and great and so so fine 3.36 and a 11 min PB what a race Andy. Congrats a lot mate. Inga DK.
Thanks Inga!
Well done Andy, was great meeting you on course 👍
Cheers mate, great to meet you too!
Smashed it dude. Huge congratulations 🎉🎉 11 mins is huge 👌
Thanks mate 👍🏻 ❤️
Well done on the huge PB. Personally I thought the negative spilt was very ambitious though.
You reflect the brutality of a marathon extremely well. Great video, thank you for making it
Thank you!
Terrific effort. See you on the start line in Valencia. It's going to be epic!🇮🇪 🇪🇸
Yes mate, see you there!!
LFG ANDY LETS GOOOOOO
😎😎😎
OMG . . . There is a lot of narrow out and back sections on that route. If you stuck behind a group and need to push past then that is going to be tricky if you are down to one lane. Well done. That is a great result . . . You really have come really far . . . Your marathons definitely look more fun now and I think you have race problem solving down to a fine art
Thanks Paul 😎😎😎
Go on Andy!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Well done young man...well paced overall..job well done..congrats to you 🙂
Thanks mate ❤️
When you nail the training, trust the taper and finish knowing you gave it everything on the day.
Cheers Lee ❤️❤️
38 seconds in and I’m belly laughing! Going the wrong way is exactly what I would have done (I walked 2 miles the wrong way at Gateshead half marathon last year) 😂
😂😂😂
Well done mate. Go for that sub 20 5k now.
Thanks mate!
Well done Andy. Fantastic time, and a fantastic video of the day. I could feel the buzz coming off you through the screen at the end😁
4 weeks on Saturday hoping to get round Stockholm in under 4h without walking🤞.
I'll be shouting it's on Neil if I'm anywhere close down the finishing straight😁
Congrats again Andy👍
Good luck in Stockholm 🇸🇪 🤞 Looks a great Marathon but a difficult one to run a PB on. We went up to Stockholm for a few days after running Copenhagen Marathon last May. We stayed just down the road from the Olympic Stadium where the Marathon finishes and went for a run on the track there. We also ran Haga parkrun on the Saturday which was a lovely route 🙂 Might go back to Stockholm one year just to tick the Marathon off.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics Thanks for the update on Stockholm. The marathon is on Saturday....might be pushing it having a go at the park run 😁 (Although the marathon is a 12pm start so you never know.😁)
@@neilvickers2465 Yes the midday start time and the undulating route are the two reasons why I will leave Stockholm until I am running just for fun rather than looking at times. Dependent on where you are staying it would be totally possible although perhaps not advisable to run both (only 3.1km between the Haga and the Olympic Stadium).
Thanks Neil! Hope that Stockholm went well for you!!?!
IT'S ON ANDREW! ANDREW! IT'S ON!!!
😂😂😂
Why do You wear those sunglasses so long Andy ? You are so great a man and You have a good mind and good thoughts so You set a mark in me everytime I look at Your videos and listen to the words You say. I have decided to run a half marathon in about 5 months here in Dk and I am allready began my training. I am inspired from You dear and I CAN TOO RUN. I will let You know how my preparing is going and for how far and how often I run. Inga DK:
Good luck with the training Inga ❤️
Is Newport a flat course anyone???Is did the one in Burry Port (West Wales)in a time of 3:06,my Marathon pb so far.Burry Port wasnt really that flat but Newport looks like it is.I might enter it next year, looks well organised.
Yes pancake flat except for the big bridge at miles 3 and 25. It’s effortless at mile 3 as it’s early and your running in a pack but tough so close to the end. I’ve done the Great Welsh marathon and prefer Newport.
Yes it's incredibly flat!
Course officially long:
Thank you for your patience as we’ve been looking into reports around the accuracy of the Marathon course distance at the Newport Marathon Festival on Sunday, 28 April, coupled with the Bank Holiday weekend delay.
This issue has been taken very seriously and we have been having an ongoing dialogue with the Course Measurer/Association of UK Course Measurers (AUKCM).
Unfortunately, the AUKCM has concluded that there was an error with their course measurement, resulting in the Marathon being 276m too long, which equates to 0.171 miles.
Run 4 Wales is disappointed that this has happened at one of its events and understands and apologies unreservedly to those impacted, particularly those aiming for good-for-age qualifying times.
For this reason, we have been working with London Marathon Events who have agreed that times will be amended for those applying for a Good for Age entry at the London Marathon, should the athlete have been affected in gaining a place. An equivalent number of seconds will be removed from the finish times of those applying for a Good for Age entry. For example, a 3-hour finish time would be corrected approximately by 70 seconds, a 3½-hour finish time would be corrected by 82 seconds and a 4-hour finish time would be corrected by 94 seconds. This will be done automatically via the London Marathon system when applying.
Haha no way!! Where has this article been published?
@@itsonandy it should be published everywhere now just Google newport marathon
