    Excellent job young man !! I have built two myself a large one like yours and a patio size . There are very few thing more rewarding than sitting in your lawn chair smoking meat and thinking , I built that with my own two hands !!!

    Thanks for the video, Great build. I have been planning to build a smoker for over a year now and have been looking around at different designs and I think I have found what I have been looking for. I hate that I already bought that propane tank. Thanks for the design, Esther looks great.

    If this is not being too rude how much does it roughly cost you to build because I am thinking about doing the same thing in England thank you very much

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andrew Lau I would recommend that you do some research to come up with a price. Figure out what dimensions you want and how much sheet metal, angle iron, etc. you will need. Your local steel shop should be able to give you a price on metal. The cost of metal was roughly 80%-85% of the cost of my smoker. Thanks!

    That is an amazing build and beautiful result. You didn't mention how many hours or dollars it took to complete. I would think to buy a custom smoker of that size would probably be $10k-$20k.

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Joe! That one took me approximately 140 Hrs to build, but I wasn’t as efficient as I am now. I can build you one similar to Esther for under $10k.

    I’m curious about the short stacks? Typically stacks are taller to help with pulling the smoke and heat through the smoker. Do you have any trouble keeping your temp regulated with the short stacks?

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Knaak
      Yes sir, everything seems to work great! I’m certainly no expert, but I haven’t had any trouble regulating the temp. Thanks for your question!

    • @youknow9328
      @youknow9328 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So being a fireman I'm gonna think of a house fire and where we vent a roof ...close to the roof ridge line. His smoker isn't square sided but actually lends to a natural vertical rise (looks like a pitched roof) creating a bit of a easier draft which essentially a longer stack would do on a flatter style. I'm guessing for bbq smokers it's the same as other but Also much bigger smoking boxes that smoke 😉 Very cool smoker Luke! I'm jealous sir!

  • @longshot5738
    @longshot5738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I appreciate you sharing your build Luke. It should be a really great Smoker/Cooker. I didn’t hear anything about a moisture pan which I’m sure you probably will use. Where would you place it, near the outlet of the firebox?

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It does work great! I do use a water pan…I heat the water up to 225 degrees on a stove first and then I put the hot water in a water pan on the far right side nearest the firebox.

    Great looking smoker. I have a question on that heat gasket. Is it self adhesive or did you have to lay a line of glue/silicone first? I need to order some for my smoker. Thanks bro

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey miggy Lopez... thanks for viewing! The heat gasket is self adhesive. Just make sure you have a clean surface to adhere to and let it set for 24 hours before use. Found off of bbqsmokersupply.com... thanks

  • @YBahjatt

    This thing can work as a normal smoker too, take the plates out, clost the right stack, open the left stack, and boom, you have a regular offset.

    • @johnchase4408
      @johnchase4408 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vents and air flow control the temps. You can use tuning plates as well to control hot or cold spots and make it cook even throughout.

      Hey Luke one more question......Would you mind if I used your design to build my smoker? The more I watch this video the more I fall in love with everything you have done. It will also give my youngest son a project to do in wielding shop.

    • @lukesherwood1215
      @lukesherwood1215  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      robert veach I am very pleased to hear that you appreciate the smoker design! One of the reasons I am so proud of Esther is because I designed her myself. You won't find another one like her. Respectfully, if you wanted to use the general concept for a starting point that'd be fine. While I'm in no position to tell you what you can and can not do, I would suggest that you might put your own designs into play as well. It will be much more satisfying in the end, I assure you. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions. Best of luck to you and your son!

    P.S. Looks like you got the rafters for it, you should set yourself up with a chainfall and take that right off the trailer by yourself, no assistance needed! Weld some hooks right onto your smoke stacks, just a thought.
