  • A first-ever visit by the Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh to a corporate headquarters in Silicon Valley, the unique event included a practices-based workshop, in addition to an inspirational dharma talk. Google invited him to campus as part of its Optimize Your Life initiative, which seeks to encourage health, happiness, and balance among employees and recognizes that mindful, meditative practices are critical to mental health.

    i have spent a shocking amount of time and energy over the past ten years always looking forward and saying.. i will be happy when i get this or that.. i will be happy some point in the future.
    I am recently becoming aware that it may be possible to be at peace now rather than saying.. i will be at peace when this or that happens.

    It's almost unbelieveable that Google cares so much about their employees. Of course that comes from the intention to be a more productive company and they have found a method that really goes to the root of the "problem", which is understanding human psyche and work with it in the most efficient way.
    Good luck to everyone who works there, you're in good hands!

    I have always enjoy eating my meals (especially self-cooked ones), savouring every bites and feeling it all over my tastebuds. Thus, I don’t usually use my phone or watch movie when eating. I thought I was the only one who does this when most of my peers find this weird, could never explain it to them until this video taught me about “mindful eating”. Wow finally I have a term for it and would definitely encourage me to do it more often :)

    High-concept stress reduction in the workplace is actually... simplicity itself. Thank you master Thich Nhat Hanh and Google for this presentation.

    One thing I noticed was that Google seems to employ only 20 somethings. I might be wrong, but all of the people in the audience seemed to fit that demographic.

    It's impossible to bash this baldhead. This man is a sweet sweet-talker and a cannot-kill-a-fly-kind-of creature. He is not a Vietcong contrary to popular belief.

    All young people. My god. I see no Google employees except her and the Zen master. There is something inexorably creepy about this. My intuition is screaming the B word and the S word. Something clandestine sinister. Not the monk but a corporate culture posturing to actually care about their employees. Nothing could be further from the truth. Google can spin this stuff all day long and we will never believe a word of it in terms of them taking a stand for the inner lives of their employees. It's smoke and mirrors within a paradigm of corporate posturing and image management. Very good Google! Smoke and mirrors - we would not expect any less than the best of this from you.
    I have nothing but praise for Thich Nhat Hanh. His non-violent work during the Vietnam war was a mirror to the West and I remember him from the brief moments we saw him on television then. I am old enough to remember. It was the first time I felt outrage about what my country was doing. And I was only nine years old.

    They must attempt to beore mindful because if not their minds will ruin the direction of humanity. Much like a cook who doesn't pay attention to what he/she is cooking will very easily ruin the meal.

    this is what happens when you take a technique (mindfulness) out of its buddhist context. respect for thich nath hanh, but in my opinion the main purpose for google to do this is to become bigger and make more profit (greed).

      The selfishness of liberalism, corporatism, and Anglo-Buddhism, have much in common.

  • @sol6835
    @sol6835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Let’s remember that “Zen” Buddhism is Chinese (true name Chan). It was ruthlessly attacked and ended by the Chinese because it was seen as selfish-just “me me” people who cared about their own escapism and tranquility while abandoning their society roles. The Song Dynasty Neo-Confucians ended that period and returned China to responsible “society first” doctrine.
