"The amount of methane that the ruminants make is only about 5% of all the methane and agriculture total is about 9% of all the methane. Most of the methane is from industry, cars, petroleum, etc. NOT the animals. So YES the animals do contribute but they're actually a relatively minor contributor. Let's focus on the things that are bigger contributors. ...
Nitrous Oxide has a heat-retaining capacity of 210 - nine times greater than methane. So ... it's in every fertilizer from the nitrogen fertilizer that was needed to grow the crops because the animals that use to grow the crops because of the manure that's nitrogen fixing - now aren't there because the cattle are in Kansas and the corn is oxygen. You have to spray the corn with nitrogen which becomes nitrous oxide which creates WAY more greenhouse gas emissions than the methane ever did. And guess what you have to do that for vegans too."

Fracking releases huge amount of methane into the atmosphere. Diesel engines create a large amount of nitrous oxide. Human beings produce mega amounts of toxic wastes! We do need to have good family planning. Our gut Flora produce methane, hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide.

Of course, fermented foods are also good. They are spoiled in a good way. The fermentation takes sugar out and is potentially good for the gut.

Connect (others), Contribute (others), Cope (self care)
Serotonin makes a funny relation, like women specifically have been historically encouraged to be self-less and meet the needs of others (connect and contribute), and women live longer perhaps partly from these skills, BUT they also can fall into resentment when they discover their efforts tend to make their own needs invisible to others, and they become ROLES to give to others, and are not always recognized for all they give. So lots of Seritonin IF they can avoid the resentment! And if course the resentment trap ENCOURAGES women to move towards Dopamine behavior and then they fall into the same trap as men.

Small point of disagreement: you can't really make people stupid (well, pregnant women can by drinking and so on and harming the fetus, or severe neglect ages 0-5 can.) You can make people ignorant. You can brainwash them. But under that brainwashing and bad habits of non-critical thinking, they are still as intelligent as they are. Teach them better ways of thinking, encourage their curiosity, and the ignorance will go away.

Now... on vegetarianism.... and I'll speak only for myself here: I have been a true vegetarian all my life. My omnivorous parents never managed to convert me, no matter how hard they tried. I won. They ate meat, me, just the fruit and veggies, please! And it has stayed this way for soon 70 years. I am healthy, 100%. Never had a doctor in my life, except for a broken wrist because of roller skating too hard, and for some car accident or other. Can you imagine somebody who does not even have a generalist doctor? Who takes zero medicine? Who only sleeps for 5 hours a night, tightly and happily, and is full of energy all day long? That describes me. Yes, besides my vegetarian life style, I am also a long-time meditator, do it every day, and I even coach/teach it to people who want to learn. I am a yogi, a sufi, a philosopher and I burn with life's passion for many things. My life is full of rewarding relationships and activities, too! Too good to be true, eh? Ask people who know me, they'll confirm it! Back to my diet. I would like to see how a meat eater would deal with a raw chunk of meat, no tools, just his hands and mouth. Good luck with that! I on the other hand, never had a problem eating with the help of just my hands and teeth. It's natural. I have no canine/feline dentition. My molars were meant to grind and chew food, not cut it. My digestive system is set up for long digestion to break down fibrous foods. Unlike the animals who eat other animals. Their digestion is comparatively short. There is a reason for that. I don't want to bore everyone as to what that might be... google it or buy a book!
Anyhow, vegetarians, if any, inflict the least ecological load on Mother Earth, provided they either grow food themselves, like me, or buy organically grown fruit and veggies. And yes, I cook every day, I preserve food stuff, I eat only entire food items, things I can identify and which do not come in a pretty box (which tells them to just nuke it and eat!). This is a good way for a healthy life style. Sure, not drinking alcohol may seem like a drag to many, but I never missed it. The same goes for cigarettes, to which I was once addicted for several years, in my twenties. I fought my way out of that one! So, the choices we make lead to the type of life we lead, it is our decision. Nobody can tell us what to do. We have free will, can do whatever we want, and we also have to endure and accept the consequences of the choices we make. Those two things go together, even though most of us try very hard to have the first and get away from the second.

The medical industrial complex's failure to properly research and diagnose and treat diet and microbiome and sleep and vital nutritional deficiency issues (including those related to Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 and Magnesium deficiencies as well as iatrogenic prescription medication usage) is a major reason why psychiatric iatrogenesis is a primary contributor to the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (which is iatrogenesis in general). If the U.S. spent just a fraction of the over $40 billion each year it spends just on iatrogenic psychiatric drugs alone, for properly researching the issues discussed in this and related TH-cam presentations we would probably, Lord willing, achieve an absolute revolution in medical efficacy improvement and iatrogenesis reduction.

I listen to Robert Lustig... he's balanced. He's not a scammer like the Low Carb, Keto, Carnivore, Low Fat shill "dieticians".
He didn't sell out. Even though "Low Carb Down Under" invites him to talk sometimes, he doesn't espouse a low Carb diet.
He's more of a Cut Sugar, Cut Refined Carbs, Eat Diverse Whole unprocessed foods kind of guy.

Loving the last 20 or so hours of lustig, wish he would stay in his lane on the economics though.
This is what happens, very smart men in other fields glance at economics and believe they can draw conclusions from what is apparent. This is where we go wrong again and again

He's wrong about tryptophan. It's not at all in short supply. Most people automatically get about 1000mg in their diet and we only need about 4mg per kg of body weight. And eggs are _not_ the best source of tryptophan - turkey is, as well as milk, cheese and steak.

I'd love to walk into a grocery store and put on a pair of glasses that light up only 2 things -- foods that will protect my liver and foods that feed the gut. OH and, I wouldn't mind a third --carb to fiber foods that are 5 to 1. Dr. Justig has converted me...and I'm doing so well really paying attention to this but it would be so interesting to see where the light goes on with these 'magic glasses' in a grocery store.

1:10:10 And this is why rotational planned grazing is fantastic. It stops the need for chemical fertilizers, the need for grains (or transporting them), the need for antibiotics/other chemicals, rebuilds the soils/soil life (which puts carbon (organic matter) BACK into the soils, and with good grass genetics and proper finishing makes great beef/lamb/mutton, etc. This makes top-level products fetching top-dollar which helps the Farmer make a better world for him/herself and you and me.

The medical profession lies to us when they say we should never have pain... recently my back went out... I had horrible back spasms... anyone else would have run to the doctor to remove the pain,.. I just observed the pain and worked through the back spasms.. I exercised through the pain and now I am pain free... I think when we don’t resent the pain,l, pain is bearable... pain is actually a sign that something is wrong... I would not take my pain away unless I resolve the cause,.. the medical profession and big pharma lie to us....

Yes! I was a nurse for 44 years. Years ago you could tell a patient yes it is going to hurt and it will get better. Today patients think they should be unconscious or totally numb. If they feel anything they assume we aren’t taking proper care of them.

Yes food industry, our gov, and medical professionals lies to us for our money. They want to keep us sick by pumping us up with meds. Its never about healing or curing our disease, its about profits off of us when we are kept sick. Just imagine our elders living in a nursing home being fed foods that are by far unhealthy and they take meds daily for pain or whatever disease they may have. I wish all people were educated so the cycle can end so these people cannot profit from us for gains over our suffering and pain.

Being a victim of modern society habits, I ve started my own battle against metabolic sindrome three or four years ago. After winning first few battles I realised that I had two allies: keto or low carb on one side and vegan diet on the other, so I was perplexed and confused because they were very opposed one to another! All other things aside, great Prof Lustig explains why they both work and why they shouldnt be confronted!!! Great insight for all of you who are into low carb or who are vegans!!! And "other" things, he is talking about here, are very, very important as well...Thank you very very much Prof Lustig!!!

Veganism is based on poor ethics not health. Yes it will start off well removing garbage food if you do whole vegetables but it is incredibly difficult to do without eventually being malnourished with deficiencies. Not to mention that plants aren’t our friends they want to survive and how do they do that?

I knew cows and sheep weren't to blame. This is so frustrating l could scream. Ketos don't battle vegans, vegans can be very vicious. Toward meat eaters. I've said this all along animals in the field fertilise the soil, masses of plants deplete the soil. Use the manure to fertilise. Let's produce less, eat less and be healthy. How the heck can we do this? Fighting the food companies, then pharma "curing" what processed foods cause., 😭😭😭🤑🤒🥵🥴🥴🥴

    • @veganfmfan7239
      @veganfmfan7239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Marion King to generalize that “vegans are vicious” is pretty vicious in itself, don’t you think? As a vegan, I encounter plenty of nonvegans who are “vicious.” People are people no matter their diets at the end of the day. It really comes down to morals/values. Either you are ok with participating in animal abuse or you’re not. It’s not a perception or opinion. It’s just facts. To consume animal products involves harm, suffering and death. People can turn a blind eye, but it’s simply the truth. Js
