    About the “beginner bird” question, I’ve recently heard so many people recommend budgies to newbies and children, like omg no, just because budgies are such smol beans doesn’t mean you can just give one to a kid to keep it in a lil round cage with plastic perches and sunflower seeds for food, and then just get a new one when the previous one happens to mysteriously die, which I’ve seen soo many times. Spread the word, protecc the precious budgie bois uwu

      I got my first budgies when I was a little kid, and I won't lie, I didn't take care of them the best. I didn't know they needed veggies, and couldn't tame them so they just sat in their cage all day. Five years later I have learned so much. I still have one of my original birds but I have a new tame one. They get fresh veggies and fruit everyday, have a giant cage, and get at least an hour of flight time outside the cage daily. I love my birds so much and spoil them rotten. I would definitely not say that budgies are an 'easy pet' by any means. They are a lot of work, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

      I don't think kids should have pets in general. By that I mean that the parents should always be the main caretaker even if it is the child's pet. Children aren't mature enough to have 100% independent control over another being. When they are a bit older it's a different story.

    Lol I took the "My right bird" quiz when I was thinking about getting a bird. I got parrotlet and did a ton of research. However while I was out looking at birds I ended up finding a sun conure that was being rehomed. His previous owner had to go to hospice care. I held him and he bit me drawing blood. I got a little gun shy with him. So I looked at other birds for a few days. Although I ended up going back to meet him again and spend some time with him. I decided to adopt him, I figured we could take it slow. I spent 3 days reading next to his cage for 12 hours a day. Eventually he let me hold him. We are 2 months in, and he has never bit me since the day in the shop. There are still things we are working on. I wouldn't trade him for any other bird.

    The only time I've regretted my pets has had nothing to do with them or them doing something "wrong" or unexpected, but because when I get extremely depressed I want to just wallow and be sad but I will not let myself sit there and not do what I need to do for my pets and it's like
    It's good for me
    And I hate it
    Because depression
    Lmao.
    I love and appreciate my birds so much, they keep me going better than anyone or anything else even when I hate it and I get frustrated that I care about them so much 😂. They keep me from being reckless and doing self destructive things.

      kat k same, I have two dogs and four cats, sometimes it feels like it's all too much, especially when my depression is really bad and I don't want to get out of bed or do anything other than lay there watching TH-cam, but they are my reason to get up and face the day as I have to feed, walk, train and play with them etc... On my bad days we just curl up on the sofa together and dont do much but They give my life purpose and they make it worth fighting through another day ❤

    • @ohrats731
      @ohrats731 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I feel so guilty of bad days when I can only do the bare minimum for them. Then I wonder if they’d be better off with someone else and I feel more guilty. But I don’t know anyone who knows my animals like I do so I think at the end of the day they’ll be happier staying with the home they grew up in. The part that I regret the most about having pets is when I have to do less for them in order to accommodate my family...... idk what Tyler did to get his own house but sign me up so I can have a rat room, no one touching my tanks, and just some gosh darn behavioral consistency for my poor dog (and me). Oh and maybe my cat would lose weight if my mom wasn’t shoving treats in her face whenever I’m not around -_-

    • @katk7505
      @katk7505 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ohrats731 I feel the feeling like they'd be better off with someone else, especially due to my family. My mom uses non stick cookware, our only source of heat is a fireplace, and she refuses to not burn candles when she wants to burn them, which is only on occasion, but still. Those are all huge no no's around birds, but luckily we live in a 2 story house and my bedroom is upstairs with literally 9 different windows that keep air circulating even when they're shut because it's a 100 year old house with crappy windows, aha. I've had birds 6 years without having a single issue that could be caused by bad air quality because i'm careful, so I guess I should be easier on myself, but it's still stressful and makes me feel like i'm being selfish not giving them to someone better suited to accommodate them, but I also know how much they love me and the fact that it'd destroy me and take away my only motivation when things get bad to give them up, and I don't think any decent person would expect me to while knowing that either.

    That African grey looks EXACTLY like the one we have at our little pet shop! We have two large birds we took in that we will never sell. They love it, they can stay out of their cage all day and interact with people and have so much company. We also have a cockatoo. Best bird you’ll ever meet, I have never met a nicer bird. He’ll talk to everyone, let ANYONE touch him and hold him. Even kids go up and pet him and he’ll dance and scream at them and go BOO- then they scream and he’ll start laughing. Our female African grey is a biter- won’t let barely anyone touch her. I’ve been working there a few months and she’s starting to become accustomed to me simply because I trust her even knowing the damage her beak can do, I don’t flinch when I grab her dishes and don’t duck when I walk past her cage and in my opinion- if you trust animals they’ll give you that trust back. It’s needed. Africans are so smart though, too smart almost... I give her food every day and water, she figured out how to unlatch the lock of her little food door and will unlatch it before nightly lock up and have it closed so we don’t see, then at night sneak out that little door. Now we have to make sure after we put her away they’re latched.

I had three male budgies that I adopted separately and had them in a huge cage they could fly around in when they weren't let out to fly. They talked to eachother all the time it was so cute they were so loud just non stop chattering. It made the fact that my original solitary male lost all human words worth it. He was too lonely on his own and we couldn't be with him all day every day so we got him some friends. He still loves us but he bites so hard when he is happy that he draws blood so I don't hold him that much... he likes to play rough...

    One thing I didn’t realize before getting pet rats was how much information and research about them can be found from scientific research on rats. Now I can’t say I support the use of lab animals but in order to do accurate testing, scientists have to know as much as they can about an animal. So if one of your pets is a common lab animal, you can use scientific studies to find out what foods, habitats, and lifestyle negatively or positively effect that animal

    The thing that I regret the most about having pets is when I have to do less for them in order to accommodate my family...... idk what Tyler did to get his own house but sign me up so I can have a rat room, no one touching my fish tanks, and just some gosh darn behavioral consistency for my poor dog (and me). Oh and maybe my cat would lose weight if my mom wasn’t shoving treats in her face whenever I’m not around... but she’s pretty darn happy living her extra (round) life

    I took the quiz and found my perfect bird! I didn't know Barred Parakeets existed. I always wanted a very small parrot, that doesn't make too much noise.

    Starter birds bother me because birds are very needy animals, and you should never get one as a stepping stone to the one you're actually going to be passionate about taking care of. They want hours of attention every day, and a lot of them are not happy if they aren't the only animal you're paying attention to during that time.
    I have a Green Cheek Conure that spends 2-6 hours a day flying around my house. That sounds cute until you're getting up every 5 minutes to figure out what they're getting into.

    I think another aspect of doing research is actually being in close proximity to the pet you want. For example I was set that I wanted a bird and was doing serious research into keeping an African grey, then I worked in a vets and found out that I am absolutely terrified of being in a room with something that can fly. Like seriously, I completely freak out. I don't know why, I am absolutely fine in like open spaces, birds flying around me in my garden, but if one came into my kitchen I would be on the floor hysterically crying (yes it has happened). So point of the story try and spend time around the pet you want because you may find out that it isn't the right pet for you :)

    imo on "beginner birds", i think that conures, caiques, cockatiels, and *some* parakeets (maybe parrotlets??) are probably the best.
    most of these have a starting cost of about $800-1000 usd, which compared to some higher maintenance birds is practically nothing, not extremely loud (unless you get a sun conure, oh god), and are very friendly and social.
    if you are wanting a budgie, do an insane amount of research on the person your buying from. they are extremely over-bred and a good chunk of the products "meant" for them are unsafe. Being truthful, i don't recommend budgies _at all._ I just find them to not have a ton of personality (which you can argue me on, personal opinion), and they aren't the most intelligent or social birds (since in order to bond with them, you need to be with them almost all the time, and if you aren't able to, you need a second, and they are much harder to tame if they are bonded).
    If you do want a good first bird, i think that my top three would be green-cheeked conures, pacific parrotlets, and white bellied caiques.
    (but you don't have to listen to me if you dont want to, i do not own a bird since i will probably go to college in a few years. however, i love them to death and plan to work with them, so this is just based off the research ive done.)

    to be honest, scientist do not know what dinosaurs look like at all. Obviously, they know what their bones look like, but their feathers, hair, scales and general color. Dinosaurs could be neon pink with bright blue spikes and green beaks and they wouldn't know.

Then she moved to plucking her chest feathers and it’s fuzzy now. My mom is taking her to the vet but I am curious as to why she started plucking on top of her wing because I thought it was weird.

    Every pet shouldn't be difficult to keep if you do your research. If you know what your getting into and you have the right supplies and knowledge of how to properly take care of the animal you can avoid a lot of behavioral or health problems. One of the biggest problems I see usually is cage size, you see a lot of people whether its in the reptile, aquarium, rodent, or bird hobby that keeps there pets in a tank that is not the "minimum" size. This is why FORUMS are the best place, be cause its has hobbyist who for the most part agree on the standard care and minimum cage. On forums like MonsterFishkeeping, everyone there agrees Oscars need a 75 gallon minimum as an adult, yet you see different care sheets saying only 40 or a 55 gallon, you have to look at the source when it comes to care sheets. Many of the cages sold for rodents and birds in big chain pet stores aren't appropriate and aren't even the minimum size enclosure.

    • @Notiravgsarah
      @Notiravgsarah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al's Critters You’re right a lot of the care guides that are readily available to you are made by the companies that make the cages and they care more about making money then give you the most accurate information.

    • @alscritters156
      @alscritters156 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Notiravgsarah This is why forums are the best, for majority of how to care for an animal you wil always get the right information. Of course when it comes to smaller things there are different ways. But things from care size, temps, food, etc are all things that are already agreed on by the community. It's so frustrating when people argue that Oscars can live in a 55 gallon, yet, when you got to a forum like MonsterFishkeeping, with people who owns monster, they all say the minimum is 75 gallon for an Adult.
