    Wow! What a nice channel! I'm dropping Sketchup for Rhino! You are amazing Stephanie!

    Hi Stephanie, I'm glad I've found yout channel! I'd like to ask why can't I split the curves like you did at 9:34? I've gone over the steps again and again and I still can't seem to make it work

      Hi, sorry for the late reply. It seems lots of people have trouble with splitting and mostly the reason is that your polylines are not closed! Try running the command "SelOpenCrv" (select open curves) and check to see if any of your polylines are not quite closed. You can try also the command "CloseCrv" if it's just a matter of a tiny difference between the end points, otherwise you might have to select a control point and zoom in on it to see what's going on. 99.9% of the time it's this problem, but occasionally you might have overlapping curves. In that case you need to explod the polyline, remove the overlapping curves, and rejoin it. Finally, sometimes even if that doesn't fix things, you can try extruding the polylines to both sides of a target split surface. Then use the extruded polysurface as the splitting object.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm just starting out with rhino, so I don't really understand why you hide your outlines (around 3:15) and then use "dupborder" later. Is there a difference between these types of lines?

    • @FutureLandscapes
      @FutureLandscapes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As surfaces and polysurfaces are created, they may deviate from the original linework used to first form them, especially if the input linework is made up of individual unconnected segments and curves. Using dupborder guarantees that you are quickly generating closed polylines from the geometry itself. In some cases you can probably use your original linework but in other cases (when you have more complex shapes that intersect each other, or disconnected / open polylines) you'll run into issues and it will take more time to try to remedy those before proceeding with modelling operations.

      @@FutureLandscapes That makes a lot of sense, thank you!

    How did you get the material part colored?

    Hi Stephanie, thank you so much for this! Just struggling to join my lines...they all seem snapped to other objects so I'm not sure what's wrong (unless they aren't and there's a way to check), if that's not the problem, any ideas on what to do? Many thanks :)

      Take a look at your linework in the perspective view and see if it is all on one plane. If not, you can select all the lines and use SetPt > uncheck X and Y > select any point to flatten the linework to one point in space.

    Hi, would like to ask why I can't make planar surface like yours? Mine turns out the outer rectangle with centre lines, into 4 parts. Do you know where did I mess up? Thank youuuu

    • @FutureLandscapes
      @FutureLandscapes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those lines are just isocurves, they don't effect the surface itself. If you want to turn off isocurves you can go into object properties with the object selected and uncheck "show isocurves".
      Or to do this universally, go to Rhino Options > View > Display Modes > Rendered and turn off isocurves under visibility.

    Hi Stephanie, I am very much enjoying the tutorial. I am stuck around the 40-second mark. No matter what I do the spaces will not separate into shapes. even after I try the split command nothing seems to happen.

    • @FutureLandscapes
      @FutureLandscapes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When a split doesn't work for me I try a few things.
      1. Make sure all my linework is flattened using setpt - check off z only - match the linework with a corner of your planar surface. Try splitting again.
      2. If that doesn't work, use the command 'selopencrv' to see where some curves might not be meeting at the corners and causing issues. You can select those polylines and use 'closecrv' or explode & rejoin the curves until they are joined.
      3. Split the surface a little bit at a time, first with curves you know are closed polylines. Sometimes when I know a line passes all the way through a surface and it should be able to split, I extrude the curves on both sides by a little bit and then use the extrusion as the splitting object.
      Hope that helps.

      @@FutureLandscapes I tried to do all three I think I might be really stuck. If you ever have time my email is Oadams9@lsu.edu and I would really appreciate being able to send it to you and you reviewing and seeing what I'm doing wrong. I really want to get good at Rhino and Lumion to better my career in Landscape A

      Did you create a plane which you are trying to split?

    • @reed133
      @reed133 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vn2025 It wasn't mentioned, but down the bottom of the screen shows which layer the object is on, I had trouble accidentally moving objects to different layers, so you should have the "ground layer" selected as the one to split, as you will see down the bottom when she splits it. Took me a while to figure out.

    Hi! Love all your toturials! I stuggle when i make all my lines into surfaces and the lines get a little bit too thick even though i try to select hairline on all the layers. Any tips? :-)

    • @FutureLandscapes
      @FutureLandscapes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is rhino's way of delineating curves vs surface edges, but if you go into display options you may be able to change the thickness of surface edges.
