Jimi Hendrix is more than just a role model for me, it's amazing how the people that you've never met can influence you more than those in reality. It's like you met them in another world. I have an update LOL: I had a dream that me and Jimi did the sexytime a few weeks ago. Is that weird or? It was like oddly.. serene. When I think of sex I don't think serene. It's like he made love to my soul. It was mindblowing. I mean that's what it feels like when I listen to his music but man.. it was a real trip. I'm f*ckin nuts lol but I felt so honored and lucky to have met him there because I was always so blue about how I would never be graced by this amazing mans presence. It was truly beautiful. When I was 14 maybe in the mid 80’s, MTV played that old promo film that had the Monterey footage, and I was transfixed by what I heard and saw. That one simple moment changed my whole life. And not in the “I’m gonna be a guitar player now” way. It was just pure amazement and it touched my soul. It’s so much deeper that pop records and all the hype. There was SOMETHING THERE! Jimi has been a spirt animal for me since the night I discovered him. I play drums firstly, but bass and guitars as well. I’m more of a Rundgren type of musician. Liking to play multi instruments. I got to see him on June 10, 1970 in Evansville, IN. Amazing, amazing talent. He was a proud American and never forgot his service in the 101st Airborne. He refused to be drawn into political issues.

I was 13 when Jimi died. I remember it wad a Friday, and I was delivering newspapers. I saw "Jimi Hendrix Dies" when folding a paper...and at the corner of Seneca St and Princeton Ave I sat down on the curb and cried. Now, at 66, I still play live in a band, and Jimi was my total influence and teacher, to this day. Nobody ever will approach him in every aspect. He was NY friend, although I regret never having the honor to meet him.
The last thing he said makes me smile so much. "Is that luxurious? I was thinking about a tent over a stream" This man is my hero. He's just so chill and humble at all times.
Despite all of the accolades and everything I still feel Hendrix is Underrated. He was one of those cats that literally changed music. Music would be totally different now without Hendrix influence. Jimi Hendrix has influenced every single generation since he's passed, I was born in 1990, 20 years after his death, and I can say without question that Jimi shaped me as a musician and music listener. You can here is influence all over the spectrum of today's music. It sucks that he died at such an early age, with so much momentum and extra potential, but I'm glad that we live in a society today (although a messed up one), where Hendrix can be shared for free with people all around the world for years to come.
Hearing this makes me realise what a humble and gifted savant Jimi was. If you had met him then, you couldn't not love him. he was such a self effacing gentleman and an artist th at changed everything in the music sphere. It looks like he was aware of the power of his art, but was really reserved about letting ego get into it. that's an awesome artist. Everyone who loves music is grateful that we were here to hear this Masters sounds.
I can't imagine what classic music covers would sound like if Jimi lived longer to cover it. Wagner, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart and Jimi playing it full tilt would of been beyond incredible.
@@artistaccount Jimi loved Wagner, Strauss and Beethoven, amongst others. He had been speaking about working with an orchestra and choir since 1968. It's such a shame that he never got to do it. One of his biggest interests was attempting to get the older and younger generations to understand each other more. Some of the songs for what would have become "First Rays of the Rising Sun" hint at this. Had he turned his hand to integrating classical music into (one or some of) his projects, I think that it would have been under this aegis. That also would have been ground-breaking and would have pre-dated later music which tried to do likewise.
@@d2dar459 I don't think that he ever voiced any wish to do a jazz / classical fusion project specifically. However, it wouldn't surprise me if something like that had materialised at some point. He had already integrated so many sounds and styles into his music, such as rock, blues, experimental, country, jazz, funk, folk and more. He mentioned keeping the three-piece combo at the same time as he was talking about expanding to use other musicians in different contexts. As such, I suspect that he would have devoted himself to various projects in a multitude of areas concurrently.
I've love Jimi Hendrix's music most of my life... This interview is sad because it is indeed his last, he seemed so down to earth and not false unlike the so called self appointed stars of today that are hyped, manufactured, greedy and egotistical.

tbh that wasn't his forte, he was taught how to do it and was still learning it. Chaz Chandler apparently coached him. He's a music guy, songwriting is something different. a lot of the best songwriters can barely play instruments
Im 47, my dad is 67, my son is 23, my daughter is 27, my grandson is 2...an my papa is gone now....but HENDRIX is a part of us. Thank God for bringing his talent to our family. His always in our lives with his awsumness! He will be here when Im gone.

Can't argue that he was great and humble. There is no such thing as the greatest though. Many jazz, classical, flamenco guitarists had just as much control, technique, creativity and expression.

My addition to understanding Hendrix is: stop thinking about the licks, the speed, or the scales. He has nothing to do with technicality. It’s purely about sound and what it can do to your emotions. Jimi Hendrix could probably play a bongo with more emotional accuracy than anyone-he chose the guitar to display his incredibly verbose soul and our takeaway should not be to play faster or more “out” but to use sound to say something beyond vocabulary. This is a master of modernity and sound who used a guitar to speak.
I tend to agree, jimi and his band mates seemed to discover deeply intuitive and sometimes wonderfully simple music. I'm thinking of 'who knows', 'message to love' but there are many examples. Someone once said it's as primitive as it is futuristic. I think his message and example to follow extend beyond music, teaching us to trust the content of our own character in whatever we do. I'm very grateful to have grown up listening to Jimi, Mitch, Noel, Buddy and Billy. Thier recordings are among my favourites and are unfailingly humanising. Best wishes.

I had a dream that me and Jimi did the sexytime a few weeks ago. Is that weird or? It was like oddly.. serene. When I think of sex I don't think serene. It's like he made love to my soul. It was mindblowing. I mean that's what it feels like when I listen to his music but man.. it was a real trip. I'm f*ckin nuts lol but I felt so honored and lucky to have met him there because I was always so blue about how I would never be graced by this amazing mans presence. It was truly beautiful. I wish he was still in this world, he was just a beacon of pure love & light - something we desperately need but his lessons to humanity will live on as well as his wonderful stories & music, so ahead of his time. A real trailblazer.

When I was 14 maybe in the mid 80’s, MTV played that old promo film that had the Monterey footage, and I was transfixed by what I heard and saw. That one simple moment changed my whole life. And not in the “I’m gonna be a guitar player now” way. It was just pure amazement and it touched my soul. It’s so much deeper that pop records and all the hype. There was SOMETHING THERE! Jimi has been a spirt animal for me since the night I discovered him. I play drums firstly, but bass and guitars as well. I’m more of a Rundgren type of musician. Liking to play multi instruments. Like Kravitz. I’m that type. But Hendrix is always with me when I make music. Like no other musician ever. Peace and love! I loved what you wrote above. Inspired me! Thank you

So sad. I saw him in 68 - my first concert and he played electric ladies. I was 12 he changed my life. Big hurt.
I got to see him on June 10, 1970 in Evansville, IN. Amazing, amazing talent. He was a proud American and never forgot his service in the 101st Airborne. He refused to be drawn into political issues.

I was 13 when Jimi died. I remember it wad a Friday, and I was delivering newspapers. I saw "Jimi Hendrix Dies" when folding a paper...and at the corner of Seneca St and Princeton Ave I sat down on the curb and cried. Now, at 66, I still play live in a band, and Jimi was my total influence and teacher, to this day. Nobody ever will approach him in every aspect. He was NY friend, although I regret never having the honor to meet him.

Despite all of the accolades and everything I still feel Hendrix is Underrated. He was one of those cats that literally changed music. Music would be totally different now without Hendrix influence. Not just music and pop culture but civil rights and things he effected unintentionally. Definitely one of the most influential people in HISTORY

Jimi Hendrix has influenced every single generation since he's passed, I was born in 1990, 20 years after his death, and I can say without question that Jimi shaped me as a musician and music listener. You can here is influence all over the spectrum of today's music. It sucks that he died at such an early age, with so much momentum and extra potential, but I'm glad that we live in a society today (although a messed up one), where Hendrix can be shared for free with people all around the world for years to come.

Hearing this makes me realise what a humble and gifted savant Jimi was. If you had met him then, you couldn't not love him. he was such a self effacing gentleman and an artist th at changed everything in the music sphere. It looks like he was aware of the power of his art, but was really reserved about letting ego get into it. that's an awesome artist. Everyone who loves music is grateful that we were here to hear this Masters sounds.
He was a true genius, and the most kindest soul to walk this world, 100 years from now people will still be learning his songs!

I can't imagine what classic music covers would sound like if Jimi lived longer to cover it. Wagner, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart and Jimi playing it full tilt would of been beyond incredible.

@@artistaccount Jimi loved Wagner, Strauss and Beethoven, amongst others. He had been speaking about working with an orchestra and choir since 1968. It's such a shame that he never got to do it. One of his biggest interests was attempting to get the older and younger generations to understand each other more. Some of the songs for what would have become "First Rays of the Rising Sun" hint at this. Had he turned his hand to integrating classical music into (one or some of) his projects, I think that it would have been under this aegis. That also would have been ground-breaking and would have pre-dated later music which tried to do likewise.

@@d2dar459 I don't think that he ever voiced any wish to do a jazz / classical fusion project specifically. However, it wouldn't surprise me if something like that had materialised at some point. He had already integrated so many sounds and styles into his music, such as rock, blues, experimental, country, jazz, funk, folk and more. He mentioned keeping the three-piece combo at the same time as he was talking about expanding to use other musicians in different contexts. As such, I suspect that he would have devoted himself to various projects in a multitude of areas concurrently.

Having written some of the greatest songs of the 20th century he states: "I'm still trying to get that together" when asked about being appreciated as a songwriter. Talk about a humble man.
tbh that wasn't his forte, he was taught how to do it and was still learning it. Chaz Chandler apparently coached him. He's a music guy, songwriting is something different. a lot of the best songwriters can barely play instruments

I watched a video in class today about the history of rock and roll and some footage of Jimi playing live came up for a bit and I immediately got goosebumps and started to tear up just watching him go up there, god bless his beautiful soul

Hendrix was always mellow. He didn't really change at all. The crappy aspect of the business of music, burns everyone out, We were notdeprived of anything Hendrix would have created. God took him at the perfect time. He was who he was, and gave us everything he had.Absolutely no one, Clapton, Page, Beck,Santana,,, whoever, were more creative than Jim. He was the best,period. He floored evry guitar player who went to see him play. AS Townsend said, he was doing all the stuff we dreamed of, and wanted to do...Turn me on guitar man!

The most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard
My addition to understanding Hendrix is: stop thinking about the licks, the speed, or the scales. He has nothing to do with technicality. It’s purely about sound and what it can do to your emotions. Jimi Hendrix could probably play a bongo with more emotional accuracy than anyone-he chose the guitar to display his incredibly verbose soul and our takeaway should not be to play faster or more “out” but to use sound to say something beyond vocabulary. This is a master of modernity and sound who used a guitar to speak.
I tend to agree, jimi and his band mates seemed to discover deeply intuitive and sometimes wonderfully simple music. I'm thinking of 'who knows', 'message to love' but there are many examples. Someone once said it's as primitive as it is futuristic. I think his message and example to follow extend beyond music, teaching us to trust the content of our own character in whatever we do. I'm very grateful to have grown up listening to Jimi, Mitch, Noel, Buddy and Billy. Thier recordings are among my favourites and are unfailingly humanising. Best wishes.

You will be disgusted, and then resolved as to which camp you belong. The book was written long after Al's death. It highlights all the litigation after Jimi's death.
