This Tiny Point & Shoot Rivals My Full Frame Setup (Sony HX99)

- I bought a point and shoot camera in 2023. Is this the perfect all in one camera? You got a 24-720mm zoom range for vlogging and wildlife. A flippy screen, pop up viewfinder, good autofocus, somewhat acceptable color science and stabilization, HD 120 fps and 4k 24p. The Sony HX99 in 2024 and beyond? Best hybrid tiny super zoom. Smaller than a bridge camera.

I am watching your content on a small screen, so everything looks just perfect 😁👌👍
You're missing out on the neon-grade chromatic aberrations!
HX90V got me into photography a few years ago, picked up a super beat up one locally for cheap before I went to Glacier National Park. Was so much fun having no phone, a new tiny camera that could take wildlife and landscape pictures, and nothing but time and the outdoors for a few days.
This is the camera every Bigfoot believer should carry and learn how to use. No excuses for blurry, shaky photos, videos of "Bigfoot".
It looked like your OG Black Magic cam and your Z30 at times. That's saying something for something so small. Love it.
Any of us who have been around a while probably started out with a 1/2.3 sensor camera. 1/2.3 sensor cams were around a long time, and it wasn't that long ago when a lot of small camcorders sold to the masses were 1/5.8 sensors. Doesn't take a very big or high megapixel sensor to do 1080p, and the early 4K sensors were 1/2.3 also. Give a small sensor cam enough light and it can do an OK job, especially for people who aren't trying to be filmmakers. This looks like Sony cobbled together some things from the RX/ZV parts bins with a 1/2.3 sensor. I'm sure the person who receives it will put it to good use.
I kept my old HX50 and it lives in the bottom of my camera bag just incase I need SUPER ZOOM! These cameras are underrated gems. It also has a pleasing quiet and fast power zoom, unlike that nasty ZV1 which zooms super loud and slow and has 1/10 the reach.
Not bad! Actually very good results! Nice alternative to carrying a big camera with multiple lens! Great video as always It is amazing how a compact camera can do! Thanks for sharing!
Most „last gen“ tiny point and shoots perform well. Even my W830 Sony from 2014 performs pretty ok considering it uses a 20MP CCD sensor, just 720p30 video sucks a bit
Who. ELSE IS LAUGHING THERE A$$ OFF BEFO HE EVEN STARTS TO SPEAK 😂😂😂😂
His comedy along with destroying the big propaganda train that these camera companies roll out is pretty awesome lol
He's gotta earn my laugh…Though his...”Photographers are like…” bit, slay me.
Yep! Casey is a funny dude - i don't even understand half the time, but always laugh out loud guaranteed 😂
@njbmods HE'S soon weird its insane. This is next level vlog funny he shouldn't even be in this tech space 🤣 😂 insane 🤣 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾💕💞
I've got the HX99 for hiking and it's great for casual wildlife capture. Slips into your pocket, weighs nothing. 4k isn't too bad.
I think the Panasonic ZS 80 might be a bit better all rounder but try and find one. The Hx99 is both smaller and lighter. If you had a bit more time and a bright day it can look impressive…in the context of a 720mm zoom (or more in fact)…yes, it might be a cell phone sensor, but at that distance if you can get a photo or video pretty impressive for a pocket camera that weighs 8ounces in your pack. Fun as always!
Literally in tears when the family walked into shot omg casey you dont half lift my spirits 😅
I’m rethinking my heavy full frame setup. I definitely want one of these. Affiliate link in the description.
I Never skip ads on your two channels because you are coolest yt channels 🙂
The 720mm vlog portion was magic.
I had one of these and the higher spec rx100vii. Great comeras but both went down with lens failures over time. The problem with the zoom mechanism is that it lets dust and debris get in. There is nothing to keep it at bay. They are great little cameras for keeping in a pocket for rapid shooting - but with all the crap in there that gathers over time. It easily gets into the lens.
Same problem with all telescopic zooms, Ricoh and Canon have the exact same problems. I had a Canon S120, which took really great photos and was tiny, and it succumbed to "Lens Error"
I love my old point and shoot. Last month I found it stashed away in a cupboard & I have been using it ever since. Love the pocket size...so nice to leave my phone at home. Unfortunately mine doesn't have the flippy screen. Zoom sounds is so loud when recording.
Zeiss magic
Yeah, that’s better than every other camera you have. I’ll get me cheque book.
The cinema is here!
I have the HX80 and absolutely love it. The video quality could be better but the focus is great and that zoom is amazing. Glad to see you join the pocket camera squad!
Would love to see you test the giant Nikon p950 or 1000.
I returned mine due to blurriness issue. videos were spot on sharp but not the stills .
@@RESISTAGE I’ve read that some have issues with focus. I personally get mostly crispy photos. I’ve found for indoors lighting has to be superb or else I get lots of noise.
I ended up keeping this after returning a Sony ZvE10 as my first camera not missing the Sony.
Not a bad little camera for what it can do. Sony FTW.
The mention of “little Timmy” once the family entered the long shot made me do a spit-take. Well played sir
Watched this on my phone. Totally acceptable and even clean and clear. Like wow.
She’s waiting for my love. Those ducks flirting. ツ
Btw.. you’re so very humble with your music.
Pretty sure Tony and Chelsea in the Hamptons aren’t this multi talented. 💁🏻♀️
love the music
A shot with the dread of a Vancouver sky shopped away would be nice. That light, it's concrete morgue lit
FINALLY! You git the ULTIMATE CAMERA! That 720mm zoom would be glorious for squirrel video!
I enjoyed the new music
I love when people get in his way. 😭
I personally have the Sony hx80, which very similar camera ( no 4k). I still use mine, best used outside with lots of light at 1080p 60fps.
Gosh, that camera gets you so close, it’ll allow you to see animals thoughts! 🤯
I don’t know how the TH-cam algorithm decided I should watch this channel since I don’t know anything about cameras and don’t care either but hot damn the comedy of this dude is wonderfully delightful. I’m half tempted to buy this pointless point and shoot via the affiliate link just to toss a few bucks this guys way even though my iPhone 15 Pro probably does a better job 😂
Definitely subbing
Hey that's pretty nice, and I don't notice any annoying sounds the superzoom mechanics make compared to others.
You might think Woody Wood Pecker is not so novel, but it is for me. I never got (< that's past tense [got]😢) to see one until your vid here.. brilliant - the woody wood pecker. Demented birds it seems, but intriguing nonetheless, & very interesting to see. They must be on drugs. The obsession with tree trunks & branches.
Lol, we are so often at the same journey. Since 2 hours i search for the Sony, after 3 years off MFT & Fuji. I open TH-cam to „google“ the 99, and what i see last upload from you, 37 minutes ago.
😆😂🤣 Best review of point-and-shoot cam. Love your sense of humour dude.
Your music is always the icing on the cake, loving your music.
All I have learnt on this camera voyage is that you can use any camera and make it entertaining as
I used a lot the HX90V before going RX100m7. Was terrific but video was not bright at all... A pity sony seems to abandon the compact camera market. The HX99 is not for sell new anymore in common shops in Japan... RX series disappearing too...
My point and shoot is the Casio ZR1100, released in 2013. 1/2.3inch cmos sensor, shoots only in Quicktime, shoots RAW images, various photo/video presets, 5-axis HS Anti Shake mode and other options. The timelapse function is very easy as presets are available. In bright sunlight the images are not horrendous but once the light decreases... ugh. I only use it once in awhile.
IS looked good when zoomed in on the woodpecker.
Just got Sony rx100m6 - I shouldve got this one.
Cool! I have been using the Canon SX60 and SX70 for many years in the Philippines. Awesome reach. The SX70 does too much focus hunting compared to the 60 but you get 4k if you want it.
The SX70 also does too much noise reduction and
the images can look smeared if you need to crop in. Love my 50 and 60.
had this years ago, didn't like the image quality, but I'd kill for a 2024 version
Lumix ZS100 with leica lens is also an excellent 1inch sensor long zoom pocket camera as the Sony in your link is sold out.
Just found your channel. And heard your intro song… For 5 years I’ve felt the Sony RX10IV IS the perfect camera, yet Sony is refusing to update it. Prove me wrong. It’s not the best at everything but it DOES EVERYTHING…. In ONE CAMERA.
Talk about the sensor size and what that is going to do to the 3D pop.
4:47 "I'm not use to having such a tiny thing in my hands" -- that's what she said 🤣
Dude... hth did you do that zoom shot and ended up way down there 😂😂😂.... it's the little things lmao!!
LIterally just got this camera and it's pretty neat. You also recommended the FDR x3000 and that was pretty neat.
finally some content made to be viewed on my nintendo 3ds
It’s ok but you get a lot of the those Smokey peanuts ; I don’t mind them but as a full time photographer they are difficult to edit out sometimes .
5:52 I can’t with you today🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video, I have one of these cameras and love it. How did you sync the sound on the long shot please?
I remember using a pocket cam for video in 2002. Was only 15 fps and 360p📹🤣. Back to the camcorder 📹 I went.
I’m loving my A7CII I got for Christmas. Skipped on the kit lens, next step is a gimbal (leaning towards the RS 3 mini) and a mic, not sure which one yet.
this pocket 3 review is taking an eternity
nice! try the RX100VII next
960 FPS in there
We need the Sony RX10 V
We love the HX99
It does like nice but I like the option to change lens. Still think the z30 is the way to go but have not pulled trigger yet/
I still take my zs30 everywhere!!! Tried later model Panny zooms but actually went back to the older zs30. Exposures always spot on (later model always on the dark side), cool fake HDR if needed, incredible photo stabe, smaller, lighter etc.
Not a terrible little camera for what it is. If it was 200 instead of 500 it would be even better. It's a shame cameras are so damn expensive.
Shoulda supported the unions 20 years ago and maybe we could all afford 20 years later prices.
Yeah, screw you Robert for not supporting the unions 20 years ago.
Sony DSC-HX9V 16x optical zoom. (85. used on eBay.) Sony G lens.
Works great for 10 years old. Cheap.
Nice, return to the ice hill vlog! That synchronized fishing by the ducks was pretty cool. I'm guessing this doesn't have a mic input since you also have an affiliate link to that Tascam recorder? That's a deal breaker for me as I want to do as little editing as possible. Nice little review though. Have a great week!
Yea no mic jack, Sony hates making perfect cameras ;)
Thank god you were able to recover from the specs obsession. Now waiting for you to recover from the non existent 3D pop obsession : )
i had the hx90v, great for taking videos of kids during sporting events. but photos forget about it, better off using my phone plus a ebay phone zoom lens. for nikon, i currently have the P1000 which actuall takes decent pictures at 3000mm with some PP. at 2000mm it's actually great and entirely usable.
Nikon have some nice and light Glass for F mount. 300mm f4 afs without stabilization has 3d pop to it and wildlife looks amaizing with IT. I have heard that stabilization with z8 or z9 give around 4 steps with this Glass burlt for photos (:. 500mm f5.6 - super cool and light but again Legacy Glass and well they dont work as good as Z mount lenses for stabilizing the video. Fine for photos.
I don't even know what a camera does but you're funny!
Seems like a very interesting, tiny point and shoot.
I am using the W830, 8x zoom for 25-200mm optical is pretty nice and i just paid 30$ for it
Where the review for the Pocket 3? I saw you had it in a older vdo 😜
I still use the older Sony HX60V from time to time, it's great in outdoors. Much easier to carry than the Olympus E-PL5 + 40-150mm lens, which is the smallest camera with longer zoom i have.
Your music on the videos remind me on Buck65. He is also from Canada, probably an inspiration for you?
Yes I love that guy ;)
@@cameraconspiracies my personal favourites are "Roses and Bluejays", "The centaur", "Bike" and "To say the very least".
The problem with these and the rx100 is the bit depth... if you have lots of light it's not so bad
The Panasonic zs80 is kind of the same thing and built a tougher with the same specs. Sadly it is discontinued.
The ZS200 also has a long zoom range but also has a 1" sensor but no flippy screen
360mm is lame for wildlife.
@@cameraconspiracies p1000 it is. it's pocketable if you have a huge winter parka jacket with deep pockets :D
@@cameraconspiracies you've gotten amazing footage with the Panasonic 70-300 FF, 200mm leica and the Sony 100-400.
I wish I had bought an HX99 instead of the WX350, which I think you said you had, early on as well. The WX350 is a nice little camera, but the HX99 has 4K and a manual dial on the front, etc. I thought Sony discontinued the HX99 though. Also, when the dog suddenly looked back (at 2:44), I believe he/she may have been slightly offended that you were filming him/her.
Jubiiii 🥰 I have been waiting all Christmas 👌🤗
I want one
I carry circa 10kgs plus (sorry, that's 22 pounds in your currency) - Canon R6 plus gazillions of accessories and tripod. I can definitely envisage the day when my back, girth or hernia tell me to jack it all in. That will be the day I look for a great point n shoot that surpasses smartphones and action cams (for photography). But for video, Action 4 plus DJI Mic currently does for me. btw that optical zoom motor squealed louder than piggy pig pig when Mr Woolf knocked at his door! ;-)
I love your videos. Thank you for your contributions to our world.
You kill me 😂 It's oddly appealing
FZ300 has everything you need in an all in one including a mic jack. DDF focus works better on the built in lens. 600mm equivalent at f/2.8. Maybe slo mo lets it down for you. It’s not much bigger than a large jacket pocket either.
Great image, But SO shaky.... Active stab did help..
It's honestly not that bad.
Ugly day for testing video unless that's a better way to test dynamic range. Not bad for under $500 US used. Great zoom. I would need a tripod. Too small to hold steady.
6:55🎉🎉🎉🎉👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤝🤝😄🤣😄🤣😁🤣😁🤣🤣😁🤣😁🤣
little timmy LOL
I like that you keep things interesting and you make people laugh. Not me obviously. Maybe sometimes. Ok, maybe all the time. I’ll leave. But not before you send me a Camera Conspiracies T shirt.
Makes me want to get the rx100 vii.
its not the same thing, but i feel good now having my older HX 90V
Great video
It reminded me of long gone times when we amateurs used pocket cameras for a thing called DIGISCOPING. You take a point'n'shoot camera and a binoculars - and you put lens of the camera in the viewfinder of the binoculars. Voila! You've got yourself a supertelephoto lens setup for wildlife.
Quality sucked big though, and handling was kinda tough
The orange bird looks like angry bird
The chromatic abberation is ours.
1:00😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are you going to give it to Markus PIx?
Good luck with manually focusing that!😂
We need a Gordon take on the vlogging.
Do you need to vlog from another zip code?
"I'm not used to having such a tiny thing in my hands." That's what she said
