  • This watch has to be the best value in the entire world ....
In the US .. tinyurl.com/uymbzdv In the UK .. tinyurl.com/v3jmxd6
    www.richardperrett.com
UK watchmaker Richard Perrett does a thorough examination of this superb value watch by CASIO. To arrive at his conclusions he puts the watch through it's paces and compares it to more expense models available including the iconic Rolex Explorer.
This CASIO MRW-200H-1BVEF really needs a new name! It has slipped under the radar a little maybe cause it is called something so boring. If you can come up with a better name for this watch then please but it in the comments.

Now this is a person that is a nice, down to earth practical guy. Anybody that gets excited about the value of a watch costing less than 20.00 yet can deal with watches worth mega bucks is truly a believable relatable person. I really believe Richard is one of the nicest if not the nicest of all the watch people on the web! Kudos Richard your videos never disappoint. That MTBF discussion was delightful. I am an electrical engineer/ installer type and boy do we live and die by realistic approximations of the life of electrical gear as compared to conditions it's installed in, life cycles etc. So MTBF is absolutely the best way to guesstimate the life of this little watch. Enjoyed the video, impressed with the content and so enjoy Richard's take on this sort of thing. Please keep them coming I could watch everything made and still want more. Just call me an electrical engineer installer that loves watches and anything doing with them! Bravo Richard!!

Hi John .... Great feedback! My video content is likley to feature electrical engineering content. It is where I should be most comfortable as my first degree was in electrical engineering but recently I have focused on high end mechanical watches. I enjoyed analysing a Casio F-108WHC recently and have another quartz watch video in the pipeline. Thanks again for this amazing feedback. richard

Thank you Richard for taking the time to do a review of this very inexpensive and elegant watch. I noticed you mentioned screw down crowns. I have a few watches with screw down crowns, and I can say that while they can help with water resistance, they are not the main factor. They do add security in that the crown will not get pulled out if it gets hooked in something. As a retired oceanographer I have designed and fabricated many subsea compartments using O-rings. Captave O-rings and compression gaskets are two completely different beasts in how they function. Many times the true water resistance of a watch depends on whether or not it uses gaskets or O-rings for seals. The watch in your review uses O-rings for both the back cover and the stem, with double O-rings on the stem. The higher the pressure the better they seal unlike compression gaskets which the higher the pressure the more prone they are to failure..

Love that you are a watchmaker who obviously works on his fair share of watches high in wank factor but are not afraid to give just credit to a £15 watch.
    Kudos to you sir.

I purchased this watch back in January after watching your review. I have been using it for the dirty rough jobs around the house when I don't want to beat up my nice watch. This watch delivers, solid contender for a beater watch, hasn't skipped a beat for the last 5 months of abuse I put it through. Thanks for the recommendation / review.

Recently bought the same watch in ladies/children size in date only complication for our 7 year old rough and tumble boy. We live in the Philippines and he is in the water almost all the time. Perfectly robust, dependable, and he loves the style. I agree with you Richard. Thanks for yet another detailed and down to earth review.

Bought two of those, for myself and for my son. Mainly for boating, fishing, house maintenance and so on. But these watches were so light and accurate that they became daily beaters for both of us. Still running just fine after many years of hard use. The strap is the weak point. 1-3 years is normal. Changed to a more upmarked, more comfortable casio strap. Far better quality. And the battery is not that long lasting. Easy, cheap fix. I paid a far bit more than 15 quid, but still a recommended model.

Nice review, these types of watches still have a strong place in my life; going out for a jog, going to the gym, working on the car, gardening, swimming, taking the dog for a walk, etc.. are all times I leave the cell phone behind and grab an inexpensive watch out of the drawer

I have been a Casio fan my whole life. I own 6 different Casio models at the moment. Three WaveCeptors and some Gshock watches. ( and also 7 others, like the Orient Mako II) Every morning I stand and pick one for the day, like dresses for the ladies. Thanks for your professional opinion about this model. If you are on a budget, Casio is the way to go, it will never disappoint you! They even make some dress style watches with a Sapphire glass. Magnificent this watch brand!

That’s awesome you were doing maintenance on those vehicles. I was a mechanic for 30 years and got into watch making as a hobby i started when I was about 8. My grandfather got me hooked on watches and we would build a watch out of parts in his box of watches for parts or repair. I inherited all his watches the nice ones and all the parts ones, I have a box with about 300 70s-1890 mechanical watches that don’t run. I have 87 that run. Awesome video Richard!

I own a variety of these Casio MRW200H models because they look great and are tough. To me they look are similar to Luminox (without the tridium) at a fraction of the cost. My favorite is the blue dial, MRW200H-2B2V. I do plan to take one diving just to see if it holds up at 100 ft. The Casio Duro is also an outstanding value and I have already tested it at depth. Thanks for the review and recognizing an outstanding value.

Why can Casio make a watch where the second hand hit it’s marks but watches x40 more expensive cannot...my experience with Casio is the plastic doesn’t last as long as the main body, but as you say it can be replaced

    • @eseskay99

Not even my Omega Seamaster quartz hits every marker nor is that accurate, it is slow by precisely 0.4 secs a day, too much for a quartz, but within specs, I have seen several with this accuracy; It is a quartz that can be regulated, but I don't dare to do it... I regulate s Seiko or Vostok, but not an Omega...

That's what drives me nuts about quartz watches. I just can't sit and look at a second hand running round hitting between the markers and you're right, I've seen much more expensive watches that are the same which is terrible.

Update: 1 month gained +2 seconds! The Casio MVH has a special place in my heart. Don’t like digital watches so this fits the bill...the ultimate “beater” watch. Gave one to my older brother and I never see his stainless steel Seiko Kinetic on his wrist anymore. It’s just so legible and accurate with the second hand dutifully hitting the chapter ring markings dead on. Love this watch!

I bought this to put on my motorcycle as a dashboard clock. Its a twin so there is some vibration. Exposed to lots of heat ( summers are brutal where i live, and winter is a token season that lasts about 3 weeks ) , sunlight, and vibration this watch has lasted for 7 years and still works. I like the way the face looks like a gauge from an aircraft. Nitpicks are my bezel wont turn without enough force that it seems like it might break, and the battery doesn't seem to last more than a year or so. Luckily they are easy to change.

He also bought one too and my mom saved the receipt. It was my first solar / radio controlled / back lit watch. Since then most of my watches are Citizen Eco drive watches. I have others but this is my watch to set all the others by. I check it to Time.is and it’s dead on.

I've had and liked cheap Casio watches for work and based on that experience would say that your Gaussian distribution curve is pretty darn accurate - providing the strap fittings allow for replacement which hasn't always been the case. Can't see any other downsides though so long as that injection moulded aesthetic is to your taste.

This video was a breath of fresh air. Just one thing - electronics and electromechanics failures don't tend to follow anything like a normal distribution. It's more the other way up and known as the "bathtub curve". There is a very high failure rate just after time zero - which we will probably never see from a company like Casio who are likely to run everything for a little while before checking and sending out - then the failure rate drops to almost zero (so we've dropped down the steep side of the bathtub by the taps to the flat bottom of the bath) and it stays very low and flat for quite a long time (typically years) until it begins to to rise to make the sloping end of the bathtub. The MTBF will be located part-way up the sloping end.

Yes it's cheap but it only comes off my wrist to have cement or mud removed. I have even dived to 15m working in horrible conditions and it's never missed a beat. Only grip is the strap. I live in the tropics so the strap lasted less than three years. It's got an Animal fabric strap now. I agree about a name. Your choice of is great. Approved!

the watch who was not passed your WR 50M test in compress machin was a INVICTA"PRO DIVER" diver wrist watch & that watch just exploded in that WR test.
The VOSTOK "AMPHIBIA" I think a passed WR test just fine and Vostok "Amphibia" was exsploide on WR test on deep of 900M.
This Casio wrist watch is wery eye cachy watxh and is great quartz watch, plus your video about this watch is how allways great video.

I was curious, if you wanted to buy a decent heritage type of watch for around 1000-3000 dollars, what would you look at? I've been shopping around for a while; I came across a L. Kendall for 2399 that I was really interested in....any thoughts?

It’s a toss up for me as to whether this, or a Vostok Amphibian on a NATO strap, would be my perfect holiday watch.
By the way the NATO strap saved my Amphibian this summer when, whilst swimming in a lake, my son clouted it with his arm and one of the spring bars broke. Got to shore with it hanging on with one spring bar, thank goodness !

My everyday work watch. I purchased mine a few years back. I didn’t trust the strap as it started to split so fitted an 18mm nato that looks quite good. I thought nothing of this watch until I saw this video so I ordered a new shiny one as my work one is all scratched up and needs some poly watch applied.
But yeah, a good cheap watch you can wear without worry, looks good. 👍

  • @jonathanlloyd2306
    @jonathanlloyd2306 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

The problem is the cost of the replacement strap in relation to the price of a new watch. If the tank tracks cost 2/3 the price of the tank, it woudn't matter who fitted them!
Sadly, most Casio watches are just too cheap to bother mending. Your theory does work with batteries, if you fit them yourself.

    • @MrAnonymousRandom
      @MrAnonymousRandom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The main problem with straps for certain Casio models is that they are proprietary. Otherwise, a NATO strap will do if you are trying to save money. Cheap casio watches are fine until you get tired of the cost cutting measures and want to move on to something with better specs.

One of the best watches to have is the Casio Tough Solar! I have the PAG-240 and it pretty much does everything except make tea! Can’t go wrong and it is serviceable although really shouldn’t fail for many years. It can be disassembled (should the need arise) and uses high quality stainless steel screws and buckle. Because it is digital there are no moving parts on the movement. It’ll keep you headed in the right direction too!

Hello, I am a collector and among other certified watchmakers, but I repair for my friends and myself. I was a friend of the late Marco Richon of the Omega museum. I collect Omega of pockets and wristwatches from all eras, I have a moon watch, and a favorite a planet Ocean casino Royale edition, which is a real tank, except, that when I went to my country house in Poitou in winter, in a cold house at 8 degrees, I put the planet ocean and my master control 140.8.89 from jaeger on a night table, the omega was stopped the next morning, and the jaeger worked proudly with a precison 2 seconds per day. Back home, at my little workshop, while opening the Planet Ocean, two wheels had their steel gears decorated with brass wheels. The thermal shock has broken down the omega, the workings of Eta are not terrible, far from the quality of JLC which is for me real watchmaking. I have casio, including one bought in 1988 by my mother to reward me with a topography diploma, it is a W48 digital, I made the army with. I did military maneuvers, and once in the forest dressed in a chemical bacteriological nuclear suit, the watch on the sleeve of the suit, its screen had turned black, I thought the watch was finished, but several hours later, everything was back in order. I had the battery changed every five years, I offered one to my warrant officer who still had it on his wrist 7 years later. the W48 still works, it's the favorite watch for me, I would even have it until my death. I have a BM 100, I can tell you, that in the army I predicted thunderstorms with this watch, the officers were surprised by my verified predictions, I almost thanks to this watch to be the weather man at the Colonel's General Staff. My bm 100 is still functional, but my dw 9100 exceeds it, it's amazing how this watch warns you of severe storms and thunderstorms. I also have a dw 9400, and a Gwg 1000, which for me are real military watches. Casio have never had a warranty return like my omega or jaeger. Casio is solid and durable, no mechanical Swiss brands can compete, not even a swatch. Good luck and protect yourself and yours. Yours; Edmond

      Ed Greenaway
The first was a Panerai Hommage and after one week the stem broke INSIDE the movement...
The 2nd is a Rolex Hommage and it lastest a bit over a year - the automatic mechanism doesn’t wind the mainspring anymore - you could wind it by hand, but I don’t bother with these watches.
It was a try what the cheapest mechanical GMT on the market could do and that’s it.

Excellent video. New subscriber. Totally agree with you on this watch. Casios in general IMO are the highest value watch brand. Appreciate your giving some love to a watch that is so inexpensive. It is a watch that provides so much practicality, usefulness, and keen engineering (value design and manufacture) for such a reasonable price that it fosters a real pride of ownership. More so than many watches costing several fold more.

I have lots of Automatic watches up to a $500 but I own two of these as "beater" watches for yard work, car washing, electrical work etc. looks good and wears very light on the wrist. Furthermore due to the low cost this is an ideal vacation/beach watch. Added bonus plastic case is safer to use around machinery and high voltage.

I totally agree, this is a fantastic watch for the money, and for its use. Me? I don't dive so deep, and enjoy a watch that is beautiful and 'repairable'. However!!! We should all embrace watches from every period for what 'took them to be created', and 'what they achieved'. I love my 1700's verge fusee pocket watch as much as I appreciate my early 1900's pocket watches and those watches I have from the 1950's and 1960's. I adore the Apple Watch my wife has bought for herself. Each and everything in its context. My two 'daily wears' remain my Rolex Oyster Perpetual Zephyr (exactly how beautiful is that!!) and my Jæger LeCoultre Futurematic - which is my favourite... I totally 'get' the assessment here, but happy to be a couple of seconds wrong. Love the vlogs and the perspective.
